Very interesting: 10 strange historical facts about Finland
- Finnish athletes have won more Summer Olympic medals per capita than any other nation. As of 2012, Finland had won in total 302 Summer Olympic medals (incluidng 101 gold medals) for a population of only 5.4 million. That is an average of 55.9 medals (18.7 gold medals) per million people. Finland is only second to Norway for the number of Winter Olympic medals per capita (28.8 medals/million).

- Santa Claus (known in Finland as Joulupukki or "Yule Goat") officially resides in a house built right on top of the Arctic circle, near the town of Rovaniemi, in the northern province of Lappland. The Santa Claus Post Office (address: Santa Claus Village, FIN-96930 Arctic Circle) receives some 700,000 letters every year from children from 198 countries (so far).
- According to the World Audit study, Finland is the least corrupt and most democratic country in the world as of 2012.
- Nokia Corporation (a Finnish company) was the world's largest manufacturer of mobile telephones from 1998 to 2012, with a global market share of over 35% between 2006 and 2009.
- Finnish women were the first in Europe to get the vote, and one of their initial acts was to pass temperance laws keeping booze away from their menfolk. The result was Kieltolaki (prohibition), a ban on alcohol that was in force from 1919 to 1932.
- Bored with small-town life in remote Kajaani in the 1800s, the Finnish doctor Elias Lönnrot made several trips into the wilds of Karelia to collect folktales from local storytellers. He then attempted to reconstruct the myths that Finland might have had before the coming of Christianity.
The resulting book, the national myth of The Kalevala, kicked off a revolution in Finnish arts and crafts, and informs much of the imagery of late 19th-century Finnish culture. It inspired JRR Tolkien to write a similar ‘national myth’ for the English. In the process, he based Quenya, the language of High Elvish, on Finnish.

"I have almost no feedback from Finnish players. "
Well, we're not the most silent people in Europe (or perhaps even the whole world) for no reason.
Be quiet, youre doing small talk, we dont do that. Pekka, take your vodka and drink it in silence.

the best thing I like about Finland is their rock music
And dank memes
Friend of minehas been there. Said was boring. I would still like to go there and check boredom out
🙂
Check out Tampere Utd. Match if you travel to Finland.
Former Premier league team, which after few incidents was found bankrupt, now playing in third division in Finland. Been to a few of their matches, and its funny since they have entourage of 50-100 people shouting for their team, while opposition has maybe 10 people watching it, since marginal game in Finland.
For my hometown, go to Jyväskylä, drink in night clubs until they are closed, go to the centre of the compass, enjoy your boxing match.
