居住在台灣的人口中，有接近98%是漢人。漢人源自於中國，大部分現居在台灣的漢人都是陸陸續續從中國飄洋過海定居台灣的。其中主要是來自福建省的河洛人，河洛人主要使用的語言是從福建的閩南地區而來，俗稱閩南語。
