The Q10 (Ten Quick Questions) – God of War Edition
with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) and all around Bad MoFo, Jankems.

Q1: First off, for those who may not be very familiar with the eUS Military, can you please explain what JCS (Joint Chiefs of Staff) is and what your responsibilities are as CJCS?

Jankems: The JCS is comprised of the most senior officers of each branch of the military. They deal with the day to day running of the individual branches as well as longer term planning and execution of plans related to the military and military operations. CJCS in a very high level overview is responsible for the military as a whole - issuing and developing battle orders, working with Congress and the Executive to push the country in the right direction militarily, and directing JCS conversations and initiatives for long term internal and external military planning. Each of those is more involved, but those are the basic ideas.

Q2: What would you say are the benefits to joining the eUS Military if a citizen were considering applying?

Jankems: The main benefit is finding a way to enjoy the game. The largest benefit is probably a constructive community that's unlike anything else you'll find in the game. We will keep your head in the game at whatever activity level you want to be at. Outside of that, there's obvious benefits like regular supplies, fighting for your country, etc.

Q3: There was a recent incident where it was brought up that JCS may not have been consulted prior to the organization of the PANAM alliance and charter. Is this true? How much, if any, influence and/or opinions did you and JCS provide to St Krems, the state department or executive branch regarding the pact?

Jankems: The JCS was not officially consulted on PANAM, nor on many other things that have occurred this month. The most we knew was that MPPs were being pursued with several countries and there was unilateral development of "charter" by the exec. Some of those countries would have been extremely damaging to the eUS's reputation and ability to defend itself, which is why we jumped on it in Congress. I was pleased to see Congress demand the truth about what was going on. Any objections raised by members of the JCS were generally met with a scoff and a "the JCS can't do Foreign Policy" or other form of brow beating, stone walling, or skirting of the issues.

Q4: Can you explain the new PANAM alliance and the position of JCS on it? What specifically are the advantages you see? And what new challenges do you think might arise from it?

Jankems: The PANAM alliance is a "defensive" alliance comprised of countries who have a history of being in the third rung of European concerns at times. The JCS opinion on it is that it's basically a dangerous gamble at the moment (even with the "collapse" of PH😵, could significantly decrease our ability to defend ourselves, and will ultimately become an offensive alliance if it lasts.

As far as advantages, it allows us to be much more defensive during our primary time slots. Depending on if things realign, it could evolve into something workable, though I would foresee it would be renamed and gain new goals. It does present numerous challenges, one primary one being how to arbitrate battle goals between EDEN allies and PANAM allies. It also causes us to potentially spread our damage further or via that first point potentially alienate long term allies like Spain.

Q5: While there has traditionally been a separation between the executive, legislative and military branches, there has been a very high level of rancor on the eUS forums recently over JCS and the perceived power struggle between the eUS military and political sides. Where do you think this animosity comes from and what can be done to quell the negative feelings on both sides, since we all should be on the same side?

Jankems: Honestly, so far as executive/military struggles, it's a fabricated issue by a few in the executive (current and historical) and a few trolls who want to impose their way of playing the game on everyone else. There are communication issues on both sides, though. The animosity primarily comes from the fact that the JCS feel they should be involved in planning what they're expected to exact, while the exec feels that the JCS shouldn't have opinions or that their opinions shouldn't matter on military matters.

In order to quell it, their needs to be understanding and respect from both branches. It's been brought up before about mutual respect, however, it generally starts when the executive starts to hide things away from the JCS that are later discovered and brought up for reasonable questioning. The responses to such questioning, ironically, are much like what the JCS give when questioned about various things. Or on occasion responses will be hostile or power plays. To prevent it, both sides need to develop respect for each other, and in the past, when this has happened, the JCS and executive have worked well. For recent examples see the Lantrip, Hamilton, and Reala administrations.

Q6: When and if you ever decide to up and leave eRep for good, what would you like your eEpitaph to read?

Jankems: No matter what, he always kept sight of the goals.

Q7: Which famous ape would win a spelling bee and why: Magilla Gorilla, Grape Ape or Donkey Kong?

Jankems: Donkey Kong because he knows how to write his own initials 😛

Q8: Who is your personal eHero and why?

Jankems: Lucky or Harlot because they were my mentors and the people who got me in the game.

Q9: What is your favorite “Gorillaz” song?

Jankems: Stylo

Q10: And finally, if you could punch any eCitizen square in the face, who would it be and why?

Jankems: Alexis Bonte, the reasons should be obvious 😛
