[MoPR] Party presidency for Dummies

Day 937, 04:34 Published in Norway Norway by Pressekontoret
On the 15th of each month, new leaders for every single party in eRepublik is elected. Party presidency is a lot more than just being the public face of a political party. The country president therefore puts on his Public Relations hat to shed some light on what is what with the upcoming elections.

If you are not already member of a party, use the My Places > Party menu to show a list of all Norwegian parties and consider becoming a member. If you are member of a party, the same menu choice brings you to the party page where you can see who is the current party president, who are candidates for next elections, and even nominate yourself as candidate.

How party presidency works

Who can become party president?
Anyone who is member of a political party and have at least 125 experience points (level 13 or above) can nominate themselves for party president through the party page.

How long before elections must candidates be nominated?
For party president, you can nominate yourself until the election opens at midnight on the 15th every month. Due to extra server processing around the day change which can cause lag, it is however not recommended to wait until 23:59 on the 14th... 😉

Can I cancel my candidacy?
Yes, you can resign your candidacy at any time before the elections open.

Are there any costs involved?
Yes, each citizen must pay a nomination fee of 2 gold which will be added to the party treasury. This fee is non-refundable, even if you resign your candidacy before elections open.

What if there are no candidates for party president?
The current party president will just continue.

What if I want to resign as party president during my term?
If you resign, the party member with most experience points (at least 125 points and is next to you, if you are the one with most exp) will automatically become new party president. This also happens if the current party president gets suspended by the admins or dies from low wellness.

What if no one is qualified to take over as party president?
If the party president leaves duty due to the reasons above and there are no party members with enough experience points to take leadership, the party is suspended.

Tasks for party presidents

Nominate country president candidates
The party presidents have the power to support a candidate for the country president elections. One candidate can be endorsed by the party presidents of the top 5 (ranked by number of members) parties in the country. If a party president does not want to endorse someone from their own party, or their party is not among the top 5, they can show their support for another party's candidate. See the June 2010 country president elections for an example. This means that the party presidents are the ones who decide who will have a chance to become the next leader of our country!

Manage congress election candidates
The congress has 40 seats to which congress members can be elected. These 40 seats are divided on the country regions as well as a number of wildcard seats. Any party member (with experience 12 or higher) can nominate themselves for congress in a region, but one party can only run as many candidates in a region as the region's number of congress seats. For instance, if there a region has 6 congress seats, each party can run with 6 candidates in this region. If 7 party members have nominated themselves in this region, one of them will be disqualified.
On the day before elections, the party presidents are the ones who decide which party members will be qualified if there are more candidates than seats. If there are less or the same number of candidates as seats, however, all candidates will qualify.
eNorway has a law on party president's obligations to prevent PTO attempts.

Run ad campaigns
The party gets income from party president nominations. Party gold can only be used for one purpose which is paying for ad campaigns. The citizen who is party president can choose the party as owner of a campaign, and the payment will then be deducted from party treasury.

Obviously, party presidency is not to be taken lightly. Mobilise in your party to make sure you give this responsibility to the right person. And if there are no better candidates - perhaps you are the right person for the job? There is still time to nominate!
