Partisanship , Blockers, and Democracy

Heading into congressional election season, the Federalist Party has been working with other the top 5 parties to secure positions to run congressional candidates. Following the decision of some of the party's freshman congressman not to seek reelection and the assessments of the Congressional Committee, the Federalist Party will only be running candidates in those states where it already has congressman. The party's political office working through its designated ambassadors has been in contact with all 5 top parties and has secured sufficient positions to run its favored candidates as well as a number of blockers to reduce the partisanship and rhetoric over the course of the election.

Ok, wut?

What's a blocker?
There are many candidates in the eUS who would love to get into congress. There's a shiny medal on your profile page. You get 5g. You get to click 'Yes' or 'No' on proposals like less than 50 other people in the country can. You also get to run around in your newspaper talking about things in a haughty voice because you are 'in congress' and you must know about these things.

The fact of the matter is that some people are not fit to serve in congress no matter how many votes they offer to purchase or how many PEACE PTO Officers have ordered them to. The arbiters of who is fit, and who is not, are the party presidents of the top 5 parties. When more than one candidate registers to run for congress in a party, the party president is given final authority over which of the candidates will appear on the ballot. As only candidates from the 5 most populous parties appear on the ballot, the top 5 party presidents are left with this decision.

In order to guarantee sufficient candidates that one embarrassing to the party is not elected by supporters outside the political structure, often candidates will be sent to run in races they intend to lose. By entering the race, the Party President can select this honorable candidate to lose politely rather than embarrass the party and the nation with desperate campaign tactics and bogus proposals if elected to congress.

Can't we all just get along?

How do blockers reduce partisanship?
By working together to agree before the election which races should have blocker and which races should have strong candidates, they can reduce the acrimony in any election. By running a candidate in one party who is intent on not campaigning or even campaigning for an alternative candidate, that candidate is signalling to other members of his party who would otherwise vote for him out of party loyalty to instead vote for an alternative candidate for the same reasons.

Through this process of running blockers and endorsing competing candidates, parties can form truces over states and allow them to run elections without expending a great deal of resources fighting a congressmen multiple parties may find to be acceptable or even exceptional. This improves relations between parties and the quality of congress as a whole. By focusing strong candidates on races against blockers or intentionally weak candidates, parties can form relationships to weed out inactive congressmen, those whose party allow 'Real Life' state affections or ideologies to trump the country's, or those who would use divisiveness and dirty campaign tactics to gain access to office.

Oh noes!

Don't blockers destroy democracy?
NO! Although the party presidents of top 5 parties may be using their in game powers to prevent some candidates from seeing the light of a ballot box, party presidents are themselves democratically elected. Rather than destroying democracy, the use of blocking candidates by top 5 party presidents is a safeguard against the excesses of democracy to help prevent those who would demoguge the population from gaining the ability or motivation to easily do so.

Should a party president consistently abuse their authority, they can be voted out of office. Should they have such a lock down on some members that they prove difficult to defeat, parties are easy to leave. Should a party president consistantly choose poorly with respect to the political inclinations of the rest of the country, their candidates will always be defeated and the party will likewise whither into obscurity.

Focus on Eduction: Federalist Training Division

Following the shut down of the National Training Division for reorganization, the Federalist Party began planning and operating the Federalist Training Division. The Federalist Training Division was originally intended to serve as a substitute for the national program for Federalist Party members who had not received a timely response from the national program. The FTD set out to teach much of the same information such as following DoD Orders, registering for forums, fighting, and healing in Q5 regions. When Captain Panther, the original architect of the FTD, was elected to the Party Presidency, the FTD fell by the wayside and only one or two classes were ever run with only adequate training materials available.

It got BETTER!

The Federalist Party is proud to announce that with revamped course materials, the Federalist Training Division is back in session and is less than one day out from graduating its first class of trainees. Recruits to the FTD have been relocated to FL or CA at Federalist Party expense, and before the course is over, will each receive a free Q1 weapon in exchange for their participation. The course materials cover hospitals, jobs, trap companies, fighting, current events, military service, DoD Orders, and military voting. Only one day of FTD training is devoted to outlining the structure and procedures of the Federalist Party and is optional for completion, only recommended to those recruits choosing to join the Federalist Party before their last day of FTD training.

No babies were intoxicated in the googling of this image.

The course is designed to walk a new player from level 1 up to level 6 or 7 including their first fight, using a hospital to reach 100 wellness, receiving level 6 gold, and joining a political party. All players of any political persuasion are welcome and encouraged to attend, though priority will be given to Federalist Party members and those players too young to affiliate with a party. Relocation services will be provided to all players, but free weapons will only be provided to young players and Federalist Party members.

Players are invited to register for the Federalist Party Forums and sign up for the FTD here.

US Green Party: RIP?

Following the Party President elections on the 15th, the US Green Party has been captured by Jimmy Loomis. As a show of good faith, former party president Kylero turned over access to the US Green Party forums to Jimmy who proceeded to delete all of the content on the board. Jimmy also modified the party's orientation to Authoritarian for a time before changing it back, and has nominated himself for country president.

USGP will survive!

Following these actions, the respected members of the former US Green Party have left the party in protest of Jimmy's childish behavior and disreputable tactics in purchasing votes for 100USD on the night of the election. As the USGP regroups on its new forums, its members look forward to next month when they can reclaim their party and their honor. This author happens to know a certain other 'small party' that stands ready to assist the USGP in avenging this tragedy.

Congressional Unity

Following last weeks displays over the food VAT and then the flailings of an inexperienced congressman who refused to respect congressional process, congress has managed to show a great deal of unity on the Country Administration pages of late. Most of the donations and alliances passed over the past week have been done unanimously or with only a few odd dissenting votes. Even those proposals which did not follow congressional process were defeated with the kind of unity to be expected of mature nations who follow procedures and rules of law to make up for the organizational deficiencies in the game's mechanics.

Nice monkey! Banana?

One can only hope that with congressional election season upon us, all parties are able to contain their lesser impulses and those of their members to promote the most skilled set of game players in the country to positions of honor. Hope also remains that sufficient organizational capacity will be demostrated by the top 5 parties to run talented congressmen against blockers if possible, rather than running talented congressmen against each other over 'Real Life' affections and ideologies.
