Updates from the Oval Office

President Hamilton's administration has entered the final quarter of his presidency, and is currently still working on a handful of projects. In foreign affairs, the President made a push on London with our EDEN allies as part of the Brolliance war with that country, pointing out that we need to get through London in order to reach Sweden and complete his campaign goal of eliminating the Swedish menace. Despite a defeat, it is always fun for Americans to shoot at redcoats. Additionally, in recent days we have renewed alliances with China, Bolivia, and Australia.

The White House Briefing Room has sent out another article highlighting various government programs, guides, and ways to get involved. Among them are Arm America, which gives food to younger players to help them fight more battles, and the Department of Education's latest article on the Executive Branch. Also, read the article to learn about and vote in Media Idol! The WHPR is a good paper to subscribe to for regular updates from the White House.

Deputy White House Chief of Staff Speedcat McNasty has answers to a questionnaire he sent out recently. It has some useful information and cool graphs on retention and whatnot; check it out. CIA Director Rod Damon is interviewed in another interesting article.

Lately, anyone who has been following the media has noticed that there is currently a debate over the income tax. Congressman Joe DaSmoe kicked off the debate, which has since primarily moved to the eUS Congress Boards. Dr. Tango has some numbers to add to the debate as well, as does Jewitt. Most some members of the Executive Branch are opposed to a major cut as they argue it will undermine our ability to fund the military and programs like Arm America and other organizations, though some have been willing to accept a moderate cut from 23% income to 20% income. President Hamilton has yet to weigh in publicly on the decision, and Congress is still debate it. You may follow them for more information.

International Update

The eRepublik Defense and Economic Network, known better as EDEN, has a new Supreme Commander, bisiacco of Italy. After a month of huge gains and successes against Phoenix that saw Serbia removed from Asia, Indonesia more threatened than ever before, Russia subjugated and under threat of political take over, gains made against the United Kingdom, and Germany hit hard, things are slowly beginning to turn once more as they often do for alliances. Iain Keers of the United Kingdom, Secretary General of Phoenix, has an article highlighting the recent gains. Dycey Farley of South Africa has a Christmas Carol to sing in response.

Battle-wise, the main fronts continue to be in (or bordered with) the United Kingdom, Spain, Germany, and Ukraine as Phoenix and EDEN continue to battle there. A minor proxy war between the two alliances has erupted in South America, and things are mostly quiet in Asia other than the recent Japanese push against South Korea. Bulgaria, teetering on the verge of leaving the Phoenix Alliance, may be a flashpoint in the near future depending on how things play out there.

New economic changes are about to hit eRepublik as new types of resources and regions are set to come out. This website is the most useful I've found for helping out companies. National governments will likely become preoccupied over the next month help adjust our countries to the new reality.

Around the world, politics is picking up as people look ahead to the elections for country presidents on December 5th. Some examples-- In New Zealand, where there are rifts between immigrants from Serbia and those from everywhere else, well-known "Kiwi Queen" Fionia has announced her bid for the presidency, choosing Bristel Akina as her running-mate. South Africa, still facing a Hungarian PTO, sees Fhaemita Malodorous running for the country presidency, facing Joseph Rich among some other candidates.

Of course, anyone watching the American media knows how much of a mess our presidential race seems to be going.

Candidates for the Presidency of the United States

Candidates galore!

With Vice President Gulden Draak declining an interest in running for the presidency in December, it has left the race wide open as he was previously considered to be the favorite to win. This week, the political parties will be holding their primaries to choose their official candidates to put on the ballot for the White House on December 5th. The declared tickets are as followed, with candid descriptions of the politics, in alphabetical order:

1. Chickensguys: An erratic and perennial candidate for every election that is taking the White House by strom, he will be on the ballot if SEES decides to troll America. His platform consists of using the awesome power of the presidency to lower the income tax by 1-2% himself, make sure import taxes are at zero, and fill his cabinet with EDEN officials to help coordination. In foreign policy, he has the legitimately noble goals of focusing on good relations with China and working to kick Indonesia out of Australia. His foreign policy nobility is destroyed, though, when he says that Pakistan is as bad as Vietnam and that we need to focus on establishing a government and economy there. Onishi/Personal Jesus will be his running mate.

2. Cromstar: A long-time congressman and former candidate for the presidency, Cromstar is reportedly running with Zyria as his VP candidate. Despite making no formal announcements and having no media on the matter, Cromstar is nonetheless a influential candidate in this election, particularly in the primaries of the Federalist Party and the United States Workers Party. He can be seen as a bit of a spoiler for two of the other candidates; people weary of GLaDOS' past allegiances and CRoy's greenness may turn to Cromstar and harm their chances in the primaries. Problems facing this candidacy is the lack of a campaign. With early polling showing him doing well in both the Fed and USWP primaries, the actual campaign may actually kick off soon.

3. CRoy: Having announced his candidacy with Secretary of Education Blank Keating as his running mate, CRoy previously served as Secretary of the Media and for a very brief time as the White House Chief of Staff in Colin Lantrip's term. Prior to last month, he served in several political roles in Israel. Running on the idea of a "Gr8 Reformation", he plans to bring back the Economic Council and also roll back some of the scope that the Executive Branch gained in the year following WWIII by ceding some responsibilities back to Congress and the parties. The main problem facing his candidacy is people being concerned about the inexperience of the ticket, but that can possibly be counterbalanced by people seeking something new in the White House. He is seen as a favorite in the primaries of the Libertarian Party and the United Independents Party.

4. GLaDOS: Long-time and influential player GLaDOS announced his candidacy with a strong vice presidential choice-- United States Workers Party President and Deputy Speaker of the House Haliman. The former mouthpiece of the PEACE Global Community, which brought the United States to its knees during the invasions of the summer of 2009, GLaDOS moved to the United States several months ago and has since served the country loyally as Secretary of Propaganda, Secretary of State, and two terms in the United States Congress. Despite his past few months of service and professed hatred for Phoenix, concerns about his loyalty come from some corners, and concerns about his activity level from others. Nonetheless, the choice of Haliman for his running mate gives him a huge edge in the USWP primary.

Those are the four main tickets for the presidential race (at least those that made it onto party primaries). Once the primaries are settled and candidates finalized, it'll be an interesting race to watch.

UPDATE: Josh Frost and PigInZen, both former presidents, have successfully managed to lobby the USWP into letting them onto the primary ballot, changing the nature of the races. More in future articles.
