7 september and its semnification

In 1808, French troops commanded by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte invaded Portugal as a retaliation for the Iberian country's refusal to participate in the trade embargo against the United Kingdom. Fleeing persecution, the Portuguese monarchs transferred the Portuguese Court from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro, then capital of Colonial Brazil. In 1815, Prince Regent John VI created the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves, elevating Brazil to the rank of kingdom and increasing its administrative independence.
A political revolution erupted in Portugal in 1820, forcing the royal family to return. John VI's heir, Pedro, Prince of Brazil, remained in Brazil. In 1821, the Portuguese Assembly demanded Brazil to return to its former condition of colony and the return of the heir prince to Portugal. Pedro, influenced by the Rio de Janeiro Senate refused to return.
On September 2, 1822, a new decree with Lisbon's demands arrived in Rio de Janeiro, while Prince Pedro was in São Paulo. Princess Maria Leopoldina, acting as Princess Regent, met with the Council of Ministers and decided to send her husband a letter advising him to proclaim Brazil's independence. The letter reached Prince Pedro on September 7, 1822. That same day, in a famous scene at the shore of the Ipiranga River, he declared the country's independence, ending 322 years of colonial dominance of Portugal over Brazil.

Do you like mythology creatures and local legends about mysterious fiends?? Because I really do.. so let’s talk a little about a few brazilian ones.
Boitatá

Boitatá is a mythological serpent from Brazilian mythology, legend and folklore believed by the natives to be a protector of nature. He appears to be a green, orange, flame or black huge serpent with flames around his body, it's sometimes described by having two horns.

He could be a good entity but carefull if you want to make problems in his forest, legends said that would be the last thing you do.

Boitatá’s diet consist of eyes from dead animals or it’s victims. He is can breath fire, and carefull if you want to look into his eyes , you will get blinded as for weaknesses .. nothing about it into mythology.

Let’s move on if I arose your curiosity.
Curupira
The Curupira folklore was, probably, the first ever to be documented in Brazil, by the priest José de Anchieta on 1560. Long before the arrival of the colonizers, the natives used to tell stories about the fantastic being that lived in the forest and protect it from any harm. The name Curupira means "child's body" in the tupi-guarani language. Although there are some regional variations about his description, his most popular version is the form of boy with flame-colored hair and feet turned to face backwards.

There are various powers attributed to him, among them: cast illusions and enchantments, super speed, transmutation and great strength. There is only one consensus: the Curupira is a guardian of the fauna and flora. The Curupira is a fair and brave entity. He does not tolerate those who threaten to harm the environment, but he helps those who are lost or in need.

His most powerful weapon against hunters, loggers and other villains is his cunning. Full of tricks, he misleads the wrongdoers making them get lost in the woods. His backward feet, for example, have the effect of confusing hunters who may try to follow his tracks. He also uses whistles and imitates sounds of both nature and human voice to confuse his targets.

His most severe punishment would be to transform the predator into prey, for example, make an evil hunter become a helpless woodland critter. He is a supernatural force that defends plants and animals from harmful hunting, fishing and resource extraction made by men. It's an unforgettable mark in the Brazilian culture, especially useful to enhance environmental awareness on children and grown-ups alike.

From what I read.. every country would need it’s own Curupira to protect the nature.
Saci-Pererê

Saci-Pererê is a legend of Brazilian folklore and originated among the indigenous tribes of southern Brazil. But that is not all.. here comes the interesting part about his origins.

He has only one leg, uses a red cap and always has a pipe in his mouth. Initially, portrayed as a devilish curumim, with two legs, brown color, besides owning a typical tail.

With the influence of African mythology, Saci-Pererê became a little black boy who lost his leg fighting capoeira (brazilian martial art style), in addition, inherited the pipe, and won from the European mythology a red cap.

The main feature of Saci-Pererê is the mischief, he is very playful, has fun with animals and with people. Being very young he ends up causing disruptions, such as: making the beans burn, hiding objects, throwing the thongs of seamstresses into holes and so on.

According to legend, Saci-Pererê is in the swirls of wind and can be captured by throwing a sieve over the swirls. After the capture, you must remove the red cap of the creature to ensure its obedience and trap it in a bottle.

I think that is enough creatures for today, hope you had as much fun with them as I had and go look for more, I am sure this is not even the tip of the iceberg.

Top 5 visited places by tourists

Christ the Redeemer (Rio de Janeiro)

Christ the Redeemer is the famous statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro. Located at the peak of the 700 meters Corcovado mountain, it provides a sweeping panorama from the interior of Guanabara bay to the north, to Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas to the south. The Christ the Redeemer statue stands 39.6 meters tall, including its 9.5 meters pedestal and has become an icon of Rio and Brazil.

Iguaçu Falls

One of the great natural wonders of the world, Iguaçu Falls is situated on the border between Brazil and Argentina. The waterfall system consists of 275 falls along the Iguazu River. The most impressive of them all is the Devil’s Throat a U-shaped with a height of 82 meter.

Amazon River

At approximately 6,400 km the Amazon River is the second longest river in the world, just slightly shorter than the Nile, and the largest river by volume. The Amazon has over 3,000 recognized species of fish and new species are still being discovered. The Amazon Basin is covered by half of the planet’s remaining rainforests.

Pantanal

The Pantanal is the world’s largest wetland, lying mostly in Western Brazil but extending into Bolivia and Paraguay as well. Famous for its wildlife, it is one of Brazil’s major tourist attractions. Capybara and the Yacare Caiman are present in the millions. The Pantanal is also home to one of the largest Jaguar populations in the Americas.

Copacabana (Rio de Janeiro)

Copacabana is one of the world’s most well-known beaches. It is approximately two miles long and lined with hotels and expensive homes, though there are also much more modest residences scattered in between. This is a very vibrant neighborhood that is home to Rio’s famous New Year’s celebration and several interesting attractions, including the Copacabana Fort, which was constructed in 1914, and the glamorous Hotel Copacabana Palace.

Top 3 locations suggested by the locals

Lençóis Maranhenses National Park

Lençóis Maranhenses, is home to massive dunes, but this is not a desert. During July, torrential rains actually create gorgeous clear lagoons that can reach depths of 3 meters in some areas. Interestingly enough, even though these pools are temporary — disappearing during the dry season — there are fish in them. Swimming is allowed, but visitors should be prepared for warm waters. Temperatures in these pools can be as high as 30 °C.

Bonito cave

Bonito is the jumping off point for some of the most unique natural attractions in Brazil, including stunning waterfalls and caves. However, its most popular draw is its extremely clear waterways, where you can swim with fish.

Ibirapuera Park

Ibirapuera Park is a major urban park in São Paulo. It has a large area for leisure, jogging and walking, as well a vivid cultural scene with museums and a music hall. Its importance to São Paulo is often comparable to that of Central Park to New York City, Golden Gate Park to San Francisco, or Ueno Park to Tokyo. Ibirapuera is one of Latin America's largest city parks.
