25 august and its semnification
Untill now this is one of the more complicated histories .. so I will try to explain what I understood.. if I have any wrong ideea , please tell me.
This public holiday marks Uruguay's independence from Brazil in 1825. The region now known as Uruguay lay on the Eastern bank ('Banda Oriental') of the River Plate and had passed through English, Spanish, Portuguese and Brazilian control in a short period at the start of the nineteenth century.
When Brazil gained its independence from Portugal in 1822, Banda Oriental had become a province of Brazil. On 25 August 1825, following a short period of rebellion, Uruguay declared its independence from Brazil. This instigated the Argentina - Brazil War. The conflict lasted until August 1828, when the British negotiated a resolution that led to Brazil recognising Uruguay's independence.
Not so many legends or myths found in this country , but I was told about one that should be interesting to find about. Here is what I understood so far, if my information is wrong , please help me.
Francisco Piria and Piriapolis
Francisco Piria was born in Montevideo in 1847 but was taken in Italy by an uncle, jesuit monk, and in his education he recived historical-mythological-philosophical knowledge that influenced him throughout his life. During his life he was a famous businessman and a very important alchemist.
When he arrived back in Uruguay at the age of 16 he started working and becoming a businessman and at the same time he devoted himself to journalism creating the daily "La tribuna popular", newspaper of that time.
In 1890 he decided to establish the “Agronomic Establishment” and so he bought 2700 hectares between Cerro Pan de Azúcar and the sea. In this area aperead his biggest dream: Piriapolis - “ the seaside resort of the future”. In 17 august 1897 he finished the construction of the castle and little by little other parts of the complex were buil
😛the Great Hotel Piriápolis, manors, the port and many more , building the city in more somewhere near 100 years. (it is said that the whole complex has a mystical sense for the alchemy)
Let’s focus on the castle now : The Castle was retained property of Carmen Piria and was sold to the Comas Amaro family in 1975. This was the period of the adventures of the ghost known as Arturito. It is only a coincidence that Arturo is the name of one of the sons of Piria.(or not?)
The Castle has many interesting particularities and mysteries such as moisture, stains that resemble to faces, strange paintings of Piria, also a blind door where it is said Piria made astral travel, and right in front of that blind door with any digital camera you can see the crossing of a blue line.
Other legends say that Piria's dog lived 82 years and many people think that Piria never died or that Piria and his disciple Pittamiglio hid the Holy Grail in Piriapolis or Montevideo when Garibaldi took the power in Italy, because Pittamiglio was a friend of one of most important bishop in Roma.
But the legends surely go on , you can search for the rest.. or it would be helpfull for uruguayan people to help in the comments.
I have to admit that this was one interesting story and I am pretty sad that I couldn’t find more then this on the internet .. info combined from more then 4 sources.
