Interviewing The Corps: Volume 7

Lieutenant John Jay is the Commanding Officer of the second platoon of Bravo Company. B2, the "Dog Soldiers", has been an active part of the eUS Marine Corps for years, fighting as far back as before the PEACE Invasion of North America during the Great World War III.

Q: So John, how long have you been in the Marine Corps?
A: It is split time, I was a U.S. Marine for 7 months prior to my departure in the beginning of 2009. I've been back for two months now, give or take...so 9 months total in this nation's finest fighting force.

Q: You've been around a long time. In fact you have a CP medal. Where did you get it?
A: Singapore. It was right after I had left the eUS for hiatus. I was approached by some American friends of mine, and asked if I would like to participate in their development. Within the first few weeks of being there it was apparent that they needed leadership. In just a couple weeks, I developed my party (The Singapore Nationalist Party) into a top five program, and ran for President in May.

Upon being elected, I managed to change the overall problems that were starting to become troublesome..Taxation, community issues such as recruiting and acceptance of foreigners into their fold, and mended quite a few fences between their 'elites' and populace. I ended up serving two terms in total, and left Singapore for Ireland to be with friends.

Q: Can you tell us about your foreign travels and all the places you've been to?
A: Wow, that is a long list. I have visited just about every country in this game we live in. I have mentioned Singapore already, but there are others. Ireland was very exciting even though it didn't go smoothly at first. Italy and Greece are certainly at the top of my list (Hail Greece). Probably some of the best experiences I have had in this game were in Greece. I still have many, many friends that reside in Greece. A lot of my travels have been to work behind the scenes.

Australia, Mexico (wow I am dating myself a bit there) and Peru were exciting places to help out. Last but not least, there is eIsrael. I enjoyed eIsrael immensely because it brought me back to my roots, serving with some of the people whom are my dearest friends. It was a rough ride, but my friends made it better by far.

Q: Why did you join the Marine Corps?
A: Well, being a Marine in RL has really drawn me to this part of the game. I love what this Corps stands for, and love the people involved. The fact of the matter is that this is the best facet of the game, as politics in this game leave a lot to be desired. It's really the one place in this game where people can be themselves, and have some class about it. Plus, where else could I get such a hot avatar?

Q: If you had to pick out one person in eRepublik to get a beer with, who would it be and why?
A: Well, that is a tough question, I know a lot of quality people here. I would love to have a beer with people such as you, SVV, Cstar, Bia Pandora...the list could go on forever. But I would say if I had to narrow it down to one, it would be Joe DaSmoe. He's just a regular dude with a regular job and a family. He's been a good friend of mine, and I would love to buy him a beer sometime, and just shoot the (expletive deleted).

Q: Why do you keep playing this game? With all of your travels and list of accomplishments in various nations, what keeps you going?
A: he community. More specifically the eUS military community. These are a great bunch of guys and gals to hang out with. Politics is pretty much dead for me...the only reason I still participate in it is because the eUS military needs representation. Other than that, I still get excited to see changes in the game come in, new challenges to overcome and endure. The game has evolved over the almost 1000 days I have been involved in it, and it is pretty awesome to see how the evolution affects the communities and the average player.

Q: What makes the Marine Corps special or unique in your experiences so far?
A: I would say the mix of people from other countries that are involved. In RL, I work with soldiers from all walks of life. It is very similar to what we have here. I mean, all you really have to do is look to the top and see HisAirness, a Croatian in RL. We have a nice mix of diversity in these Corps, something you won't see in any "Federally operated, Congressionally owned army. Plus, the Marine Corps is made up of some of the finest fighters in the world, so carrying the Globe and Anchor on your avatar is, in my opinion, pretty special.

Q: What would you say to someone who was thinking of joining the Special Forces, the Ultramarines or the eUS Marines?
A: Of course I would say eUS Marines, hands down. The Special Forces is a fledgling unit that is really a mess right now, as is the entire USAF. They don't have the means to excel in my opinion. As far as the UltraMarines go, I will keep it civil. My only advice for someone considering them would be to watch your back, knives have a way of ending up in them if you aren't deemed "loyal". You need only look to the top of that command structure to recognize the incompetence and greed that runs that show.

Thank you for your time John Jay. Good luck with your new command at the helm of Bravo 2. Lead them into victory against our Polish and Spanish enemies and continue to honor the name of being an eUS Marine! OORAH!
