1st Regular Session of the Seventh Congress
Republic of the Philippines
4 September 2009

This is my report to the people. It's been almost one month since the last presidential elections. Where are we now? And where are we going?

..::Foreign Affairs::..

Let's talk about foreign affairs.

PEACE GC

August has demonstrated our continuing support for our PEACE allies, especially in the World War, which our Marine and Navy strike forces have taken part in actively, as mentioned earlier.

Sol

This month also saw the strengthening of our ties with the Sol alliance, beginning with the signing of the Sol Charter on August 9.

Since then, many, many interesting developments have happened in Sol, not least of which is the Sol War Games, which, as we all know, has been a great boon to everyone.

As of today, Sol already has seven member countries, five observers, and War Games participant-countries that are neither.

Because of the overwhelming interest shown by the international community in Sol, we are currently holding discussions in the Security Council as to whether or not we should expand alliance membership beyond the Asia-Pacific region.

Sol has been one of the most beneficial things that has happened to our country and we will stick to it.

Expansion of Foreign Service and Diplomatic Corps

Under the leadership of the Department of Foreign Affairs, we have seen the expansion of our Foreign Service and Diplomatic Corps. We have more embassies in other countries than ever before, as well as more foreign diplomats who have established their embassies here.

The Future of Foreign Affairs.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is currently formulating reform plans to increase the activity levels and effectiveness of our Foreign Service.

Due to the remarkable success of the National Economic Development Authority think-tank, I am currently conceptualizing plans to copy this concept and create a "National Security Committee", composed of personnel from the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of National Defense, and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, as well as foreign "security advisers".

Should I win reelection, I will look into the implementation of such a committee that will aim to expand the capabilities of aforementioned agencies and departments, and work toward a safer and more secure Philippines.

...to be continued,
