Day 987, 10:12 Published in Netherlands Netherlands by TI Party

I present you, the first edition of ‘TI Weekly’’, a weekly view on party matters, politics, defense and any other subjects which come back every week, a view on our daily life from The Internationalists. Please subscribe, vote and comment.

Party Matters.
Since the foundation of The Internationalists, members have been slowly flocking in. We started with 3 members a time ago, now we already have 15. We are now the sixth party of The Netherlands, after I&W (Iron and Wine), LSD (Libertarian Social Democrats), GLD (Green Liberal Democrats), IP (Independent Party) and CPNL (Communist Party Netherlands).

We’re not finished however, The Lijst Pierre Delvaux is threatening to take over our position, as they only need 4 more members to do so. We are of course not going to wait until they do outgrow us, we’ll search the publicity for our party, as not yet everyone is know with us and our idea’s, which can be read here.

The goal is to get in the top 5, because our party members can run for congress and have a say in our government. Like our idea’s, an active party and want to help us fulfilling this goal? Join us! (Link is at the bottom of the page)

General Politics.
Good news for TI and LPD, as we now finally have a forum rights to vote for proposals made on the forum. TI found out that there was somewhere hidden a law which guarantees parties who have more members than 5% of the electorate rights to vote. We only found out about this law this month, and were kind of disappointed, as we already should have gotten those forum rights for months. According to that law, the party leader of the party has the right to appoint one member to represent them. I have appointed myself (Tonie112) for this task, and think I’m managing pretty well. I have voted already numerous times, in one case my vote was even decisive, and debates don’t scare me. (Join the eNetherlands forum. )

As I write this down, we still have no government, a week after the congress elections. Reason is that I&W and LSD ended up with the exact same amount of seats (10, IP had 8 seats, GLD 7 and CPNL 5). Such an outcome was not covered by our constitution then, and a solution had to be found. After a long discussion I&W and LSD agreed upon appointed Boklevski (IP) as formateur. I first had my doubts with Boklevski as formateur, but he has done a great job! He first asked all parties, including those who do not even have congress seats in a survey. Looking at the results of the election and the responses from the survey, Boklevski concluded that the best coalition to research was I&W/GLD/IP. Those talks are still going, and hopefully tonight we will have a new government appointed.

UPDATE:
After long but good coalition talks, a coalition between I&W/LSD/IP has been formed. Quite a surprise, as many suspected the coalition over right (I&W/GLD/IP) would be it. The formation has been, in my opinion, quite dubious. First of all the appointment of Boklevski, which LSD and IP announced even before I&W could agree on it. Boklevski held a survey, and various party leaders posted what their preferences were on eRepublik. We could easily conclude that the coalition over right was the most preferred one, by all three parties, still Boklevski went for a coalition with LSD/I&W. I can understand he did that, as that's the most fair solution, but he shouldn't ignore the preferences he asked for. I&W and LSD only have 20 seats, so they needed a 3rd party, and surprise, it was IP. Once again LSD and IP began publicizing they would go for this coalition, before I&W could respond. But actually I don't blame LSD and IP, I&W hasn't been helpful too and delayed the formation process with days. What amazes me more is that I&W just agreed with that, and didn't push for GLD instead of IP. I would feel betrayed as party member of GLD, as we all know that I&W wouldn't dominate the politics like they do now, without GLD support. Garmr wouldn't even be president now, if GLD didn't support him last month.

Presidential Election.
Everyone seems busy with the formation of a new coalition, the presidential election seems to be forgotten! Short before the deadline of placing your candidacy it seemed like ‘Garmr’ would be the only candidate, but luckily we now have 4 choices:
*Garmr, Supported by I&W and GLD.
Manifesto:
*Tonie112, Supported by TI and LSD.
Manifesto:
*Pierre Delvaux, Supported by LPD.
Manifesto:
*PaulJung, Supported by IP.
Manifesto:

One thing that disappoints me is the splintering of the left side. I&W and GLD form a big majority of the votes, which only can be battled by working together. The differences between LSD, IP, CPNL, TI and LPD are not too big, and they all want the same thing; a president chosen for his plans, not for the logo that stands above him. I&W+GLD have 222 members together, in comparison a ‘block’ of the left hanging parties LSD, IP, CPNL, TI and LPD would have 241 members. We are digging our own graves by splintering ourselves, because we don’t work together.

Thanks for reading,

Tonie112,
Party President of The Internationalists.
