A Discouraging Election Season
Israel Stevens
Once again, we find ourselves in the midst of a Presidential Election. And for the first time in many months, we have an actual race on our hands. Three prominent candidates have all stepped forward and asked for our vote.
And for the first time in probably as many months, I feel like I don’t really care who wins. I like each candidate a lot, and consider each of them to be a friend. But yet, I find myself not really pulling for any of them. This isn’t a ”I don’t care who wins because I love everyone!” this is much more of a ”meh.”
But the most troubling thing for me, is how little public discourse there is. None of the candidates disagree with each other. They all have almost identical cabinets.
Look, I’m one of the most ‘elitist’ people in the country, but even I find myself completely turned off by this. No one wants to argue? No one wants to try to change things? No one wants to raise the level of Public Debate?
”We might even lose the White House, but we’re not going to be threatened by issues. We’re going to put them front and center. Let that be our legacy.”
~Leo McGarry, The West Wing
I looked at the candidates newspapers to see when last they wrote about something other than getting re-elected, or party or MU business. Not often.

A good article.

Last article with any substance besides Party/MU business or getting re-elected is from Day 1978 - Thoughts about Unity

Borderline PotUS announcement article. Definitely ‘chumming the waters’ so to speak. But it does stand on it’s own.
Tenshibo - T is for Tenshibo
Last article with any substance besides Party/MU business or getting re-elected is from Day 1690 - Alliance Stuffs

Talking about America’s Alliance situation. Another good article.
Is this really the best we can do? Candidates that don’t have anything to say for almost a year unless they want to get elected?
Has there really been not 1 thing to write about in the past year?!?
Maybe this is too much of the pot calling the kettle black but I have never been more disgusted to be a part of this system.
I realize that this isn’t exactly anything new or groundbreaking. But that doesn’t make it any less discouraging. I expect better from our candidates and I would hope that other people would as well. Elected officials need to be held to a higher standard.
For whatever it’s worth (and maybe it’s not much), I am going to do my best to write more, about topical issues.
I will do my part to raise the level of Public Debate in this country.

Thank you for bringing up a point I brought up a few times about our PotUS Candidate's activity prior to this election cycle.

You're being a bit generous calling DLS's unity article 'substantive.'
But yeah...the fact that they're all giving the same answers to questions is making me change the criteria I even consider before voting.
Yeah, I know. But the one he wrote before that was about the training war in Mexico, so it's not like he has been completely absent.
What has actually happened is that you have three candidates who aren't in love with the media module. Some people don't enjoy writing and will only do it when it's something required of them, or something that absolutely must go out.
Artela was active in the media as President, and Luis enjoys talking about himself...so I'm sure we'll see stuff from him. And really, Tenshibo will not pass up an opportunity to swagify the Presidential Seal on a daily basis.
Mayhaps it was just the WEEKEND, and they were having lives?
And really, the path right now is fairly obvious for us...it just comes down to who can execute it best.
True. Vanek is leaving us in a good spot.
It's not just this weekend. Tenshibo and Artela haven't written in almost a year.
That's one hell of a life to have.
If you consider yourself a leader and a public figure, shouldn't you be able to muster up an article every now and then?
I'm about as public as it gets, and I haven't written anything substantive in I don't know how long.
Media bores me...so I don't do it unless I have to. Nothing wrong with that, and I expect these guys are mostly the same. Luis would be the exception, but his horrible English means I never read anything he publishes.
Artela hasn't even written an article in a week.
:/
"meh." Spot on.

Personally I like that Reagan guy. We should elect him.
I'll admit it. I lol'd.
I'll concur.
Voted.
Good point. I'd agree with Pfeiffer though (:
And will bring up one more argument: how often do you see articles in top5 that are NOT from voters club? Many people refuse to vote an article, until they get a reward (in $ of course) for doing so..

Do not think, act as you're told!
Do not question, do your job!
Do not ask, obey!
ATO is a nice mask for a totalitarian regime.
Yes, their recent commitments should be a factor in their consideration for the position for PotUS, but for commitment, above all, what really matters is their CONTINUOUS commitment once they gain the seat of PotUS. Since this cannot be predetermined (though their trends can help map or perhaps predict their nature and future), it comes down to the voters' trust in the candidates' commitment to the position.
Often, the candidates' commitment is gauged by the thoroughness of their platforms and responses, and to aspects of the community, not necessarily the media module specifically.
I'm with IS. Fine people all qualified but none inspire.
I'll disagree with Pfeiffer peripherally. They may not LIKE to write, but creating the story is very much a part of leading the nation, not just reporting the events and explaining the reasoning. Some people are boring, I get that. Not very creative. But those people should probably remain in the wings as functionaries.
Thousands of people in game depend on our leadership to be creative story tellers. Inspiration rises and falls with that ability to weave a yarn around events.
Definitely a SERIOUS problem we've had on this team for some time is poor story tellers in leadership.
That said, I'm sure any of them will continue our functionary governance another month.
