[WTP] Habits of Most Effective People
MrCarey
What’s up everybody!? It’s been a crazy month for me in eRepublik. I went from being a Deputy in the Media Department of WTP to Party President of WTP and Secretary of Education for the eUSA. Talk about getting a political career launched! Holy cow! Being that I’m not in the Media Department anymore, I haven’t written any articles lately except for an occasional piece for the WHPR and the big Whalefare announcement last month. Well, I’ve got a special treat for you all. I saw this story on my Facebook newsfeed last week and I’d like to share it with you all and expand upon it.
As you all may know, I’m a huge advocate for communication and efficiency. I took that drive and compassion and applied it during my term as PP for We the People and I’m doing it again as Secretary of Education. Well last week, I saw a news story that talked about ‘email habits of the most effective people.’ It was a piece geared toward Google’s Eric Schmidt, and he outlined several different tips he thinks define the most effective people in his new book, How Google Works.
His number 1 tip was “Respond Quickly”. He says, “There are people who can be relied upon to respond promptly to emails, and those who can’t. Strive to be one of the former. Most of the best - and busiest - people we know how to act quickly on our emails, not just to us or to a select few senders, but to everyone.” Even short messages like, “got it”, “no problem”, etc. help create a culture of efficiency and attentiveness.”
Another couple tips I found helpful were; “Handle email in a Last In First Out order, since older stuff often gets taken care of by itself.” and “Include other people in the conversation who might be useful.” Both of these tips are great things to consider.
So you may be thinking; “What the hell does this have to do with eRepublik?” Well, instead of e-mails, apply this to in-game PMs, forum threads, and other means of communication we use here in this game. When someone sends you an in-game message, reply to it. Let that person know you received it, even if your reply is as simple as “Received.” Be timely with your responses and replies so that the topic keeps rolling and doesn’t become stagnant. Keep the conversation up until the topic is executed. Efficiency is a beautiful thing, people. Let’s all strive to be more efficient in October!

Hmm...
I read this some days ago, and as it references the same info from Schmidt, I think you might find it interesting: http://calnewport.com/blog/2014/09/27/should-you-work-like-maya-angelou-or-eric-schmidt/
The tl;dr on that one is that it's arguable whether or not Schmidt's advice is universally good (the comments on the post I linked go further into it), but yeah, for someone in a role focused on communication, leadership, and generally being on top of things, it's good advice.
Voted nonetheless. Good article.
It depends what type of person you are. For some people team work is important and results outcome from the synergies in the team. If this is you, you should follow Schmidt's advice.
Others, however, are individualists. They do their research and analysis by themselves and fail in introducing other people into their world.
Some months ago I read about another approach that is maybe good for both types of people. It advised for an email-less Friday.
I, however, would rather advice for an email-less early afternoon. If you are doing a lunch break from noon to 1pm, use the following hour or two for actually doing work. If you normally respond on emails within the minute (during working hours, of course) except from 1pm to 3pm, with time your colleagues will adjust to that and won't bother you from 1pm to 3pm, leaving you to do your own work 🙂

Voted for actually referencing your work. Plagiarism is very common in eRepublik and I am very happy to see that this ain't the case here 😁

Use others for their knowledge and to delegate tasks, dont waste time on useless shit like internet games.
That's basically wtf is up if you want to achieve shit in life, especially the second part.
Effective people don`t eRep.
Except me.
Being effective is over-rated. Just relax.
