[WTP] Efficiency in Communication & Leadership

Day 2,459, 06:43 Published in USA USA by MrCarey

*Disclaimer: This article is not intended to be 'flaming'. It is simply constructive criticism and is meant to be encouraging. The views and opinions expressed in this article are my own (other than the interviews).*

I feel like I should welcome you to my article, but it’s an article and not really a place. So how about an awkward welcome? Anyway, this article is mainly geared toward existing We The People members, BUT it also caters to those people who aren't in WTP or are looking to join a political party as well. So while it may seem this is heavily geared toward current members of WTP, it encompasses all of eUSA - so don’t stop reading!

Over the past few days I asked several members of We The People the following question:

Being a member of WTP, what is something you would like the next PP to focus on that maybe either seemed to be lacking in the party, or something that just hasn't been implemented that you feel should be.

The replies all carried the same theme; more media and better communication. Here are some of the replies:

dmjohnston I think we need to improve our retention programs and get the word out about our programs like FTW more.

Blande Get members a lot more involved in party duties.

Oblige Whalefare.

Garmr I suppose media could be better. Lot of spread out member articles during congress time that have very little votes.
MrCarey You'd like to see it more focused?
Garmr Yeah, some concentrated voting on all party articles

mikeontry I would like to see us more involved in the effort to get new citizens into the game and country.

Irule777 I really hope we do a better job overall next month. The next PP needs to make sure we have more party articles going, we have recruitment running well, primaries on time, just the general stuff could be better tuned. I also think we could do a better job getting activity up, but then again, I always think that.

Some of you may thinking, “What the hell is up with this guy? Why is he attacking and shaming his own party?” or maybe even (for non-members), “Ok? I don’t get the point.” My point is there is a communication problem within We The People and I’m here to make the next PP aware of this issue and even lay out some ways to fix it. You see though, communication problems don’t just stop at WTP, there are communication problems throughout all of eUSA. I can attest to these problems first-hand which is why I took this article on. All coming together now, right?

It’s clear there’s a communication issue and that members of WTP notice it. I’m here to lay out some suggestions to get it fixed! eChesty took a great step in the right direction behind the scenes. He reached out to Blande, stunkcuf, MrLaMarke, and myself to push out articles each day of the week (M-F). Some of them got out in time (this is being one of them).
Pushing out articles each day not only gives the party exposure, it keeps the party members informed. Of course as many of you may already know, the forums (which are back up in full force) are key to this game as far as communication goes. IRC is also great because you get a better real-time communication avenue to go to when you need to converse with someone in a more immediate manner than PMs.

I think the main problem here though is that the ‘people of power’ aren’t using these services at the rate and consistency they should be used. Now before anyone rages and hits the back button saying, “Well there’s RL too ya know!” or “Psh, whatever, I use that stuff all the time.”, I’m not saying NONE of our leaders use it and please don't think this is a personal attack on anyone. Our CP, dmjohnston, is a fine example of someone who can always be reached, and if he can’t be, a PM to him is answered back within 12 hours - usually sooner.

To address the “Well there’s RL too” people, I have a few replies to that God awful excuse I hear too often:

-If you can’t dedicate the necessary time to the job, don’t apply/run.
-If you can’t be available (in a timely manner) when needed, don’t apply.
-It’s 2014 - make a gmail account for erepublik, throw it in your in-game profile, let the emails go to your phone.

When you can’t be available not only does your reputation suffer, your party suffers. Keep in mind, this isn’t only an issue in WTP, and I’m not saying every person in a leadership position suffers from this issue. All I’m saying is, if you apply and really want the job then perform as if you were being paid for it. The more fluid communication there is throughout the party or even MU, the smoother and more efficient all the operations of said organisation run.

I understand sometimes RL gets in the way and there's nothing anyone can do about it. If and when that happens, have people in line ready to pick up the slack and keep pumping out instruction - even if it's weekly.

Efficiency is a beautiful thing, people! It’s what keeps things running in positive ways, it’s what creates positive, flowing progress. With efficient leadership comes efficient members, and with efficient members comes progressive parties that change our nation in positive ways. So get out there, be vocal, be available, and be efficient; do the job you signed up for, and do it well and with passion. Before you know it, your organisation will be on an upswinging rebound. This is what all the parties need, but more importantly of course, this is what We The People need. We need efficiency, we need reliability, and we need improved communication. I ask whoever wins the primaries and becomes the next PP, whether it be TheMike or DiscoMusolini - make your party people proud!
