1589: Death of Lady Saigō, a wife of Tokugawa Ieyasu.
1859: In Japan, Hakodate, Kanagawa and Nagasaki are opened to British commerce and British subjects could travel within a range of 25 miles of each port.
1943: Tokyo City merges with Tokyo Prefecture and is dissolved. Since then, no city in Japan has had the name « Tokyo » (present-day Tokyo is not officially a city).
2006: Death of former Japanese premier Ryutaro Hashimoto.
