Greetings citizens of eJapan and e-world, we are continuing with the Travel through history articles. In our previous article we stopped at the 15th of June so will continue from that date, and first on our list is 16th June. We are about to embark on unique time travel,a journey through time, to see what important events happened on certain days in japanese history, enjoy😁

16th of June


1139: Birth of Konoe, 76th emperor of Japan.
1878: Death of Kikuchi Yosai, also known as Kikuchi Takeyasu and Kawahara Ryohei, a Japanese painter.
1945: In Okinawa island, Mount Yuza is taken by the US forces.
1960: Because violent anti-US demonstrations, at the request of Japan’s government, president Eisenhower cancels his visit to Tokyo.
1960: Soviet Union protests for the flight over its territory by two US U-2 planes that came from Japan.
2000: Death of Japanese empress Kojun, widow of emperor Hirohito and mother of the present emperor, Akihito.

17th of June


850: Death of Tachibana no Kachiko (also known as Empress Danrin), Japanese empress who founded the Danrin-Ji temple.
1565: Matsunaga Hisahide assassinates the 13th Ashikaga shogun, Ashikaga Yoshiteru.
1920: Birth of Setsuko Hara, Japanese actress.
1928: Birth of Peter Seiichi Shirayanagi, Japanese cardinal (Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tokyo).
1961: Birth of Koichi Yamadera, Japanese seiyu (voice actor), actor, tarento, master of ceremonies and impressionist.
1971: Agreement between Japan and USA for the return of Ryukyu including Okinawa under Japanese rule in 1972.
1972: In Japan, prime minister Eisaku Sato resigns.
1978: Birth of Kumiko Aso, Japanese actress.
1980: Birth of Kimeru, Japanese pop musician, singer, and stage actor.
1983: Birth of Kazunari Ninomiya, a Japanese idol, singer, songwriter, actor, voice actor, and radio host.
2015: Japan passes a legislation to lower the voting age to 18 from 20.

1234: Death of Chukyo, 85th emperor of Japan.
1517: Birth of Ogimachi, 106th emperor of Japan.
1908: Japanese immigration begins to Brazil when 781 people arrive in Santos aboard the Kasato-Maru ship.
1934: Birth of Mitsuteru Yokoyama, Japanese manga/comic artist.
1947: Japanese Navy Admiral Shigematsu Sakaibara, garrison commander of Wake Island during WWII is hanged in Guam.
1991: Birth of Rei Okamoto, Japanese model and actress.
2008: Death of Miyuki Kanbe, Japanese actress.
2008: China and Japan have agreed to jointly develop a disputed gas field.
2008: Taiwan president ups pressure in Diaoyutai row with Japan.
2014: Japan finally falls into line with other major developed countries and made the possession of child pornography illegal, but the sometimes graphic images of paedophilia in manga comic books remain legal.

626: Death of Umako Soga, Japanese leader of the Soga clan.
1301: Birth of Prince Morikuni, 9th Japanese shogun of the Kamatura shogunate.
1560: The Battle of Okehazama - Oda Nobunaga defeats Imagawa Yoshimoto.
1909: Birth of Osamu Dazai, Japanese author.
1909: Birth of Midori Naka, stage actress of the Shingeki style.
1944: Beginning of the two-day Battle of the Philippine Sea on the Japanese.
1973: Birth of Yuko Nakazawa, a Japanese pop and enka singer, and actress.
1978: Soviet Union says that the Amity and Peace Treaty project between China and Japan is a threat for the in Far East.
2000: Death of Noboru Takeshita, 74th Japanese prime minister.

20th of June


1737: Birth of Tokugawa Ieharu, 10th shogun of the Tokugawa shogunate.
1869: Death of Hijikata Toshizo, Japanese military leader, a vice-commander of Shinsengumi, who resisted the Meiji Restoration.
1944: The Battle of the Philippine Sea - victory of the USA navy against the Imperial Japanese Navy during the WW 2.
1959: Death of Hitoshi Ashida, 47th Japanese prime minister.
1997: At the G-8 summit in Denver, Boris Yeltsin announces that Russian strategic nuclear missiles would no longer be targeted at Japan and that he supports both Japan and Germany joining the United Nations Security Council, without any of the current members giving up their veto rights.
