Leaders ~ Editorial

The last 24 hours has seen some interesting developments internationally, as well as in our own back yard. Necrosis, the man formally known as Glorious Failure, has defected to the USA. Whether this is a publicity stunt, or an attempt to join and subvert the USA is unclear. However what is clear is that the prominent citizen, former Minister and former proud member of the FDP has followed in the footsteps of the likes of Goku Jones and Sara Droz and abandoned the UK.

Necrosis, and his previous (now stolen) account GF, were amongst the most vocal advocates of PEACE, serving on their highest body for several months. He argued very strongly for us to assist PEACE and become more involved with them. Thus many people were shocked by his defection. However for those of us active on the IRC channel #euk we witnessed his gradually increasing boredom with the game and advocacy of more and more radical solutions.

“ I personally am no longer affiliated with PEACE, or any PEACE nation. I expect to be dammed by former friends and colleagues for writing this article; so be it. Someone needs to say it. It was a pleasure working together, and I guess we’ll meet in battle at some point in the future. Best of luck.- Necrosis, 15th November 2009

However it is dubious at best whether the USA will support or trust someone who trolled them so thoroughly, and was the man in the military hot seat during the aborted North American conquest.

In other news, Israeli President JMatH and Israeli PEACEnik yyytttvvv have supposedly plotted together the downfall of the small middle-eastern state by suiciding it against Turkey. The attack and retreat activated the PEACE nation’s MPPs against Israel, opening up yet another front between pro-EDEN and pro-PEACE countries. At the time of writing Israel still had four regions. It’s also worth mentioning the President proposed a hilarious new citizen message, which is sadly being defeated.

Asia ~ Trolling on home

Well Indonesia has managed to annoy half of the world by leaving PEACE and attacking Malaysia, but they still haven’t annoyed anyone enough to invade. Indonesia basically wants some fun, their huge population has shrunk considerably, their economy is dwindling and they are in their sunset. The solution? Follow the USA into destruction, and in the rebirth re-conquer the world.

So what’s the problem? Well the USA, despite claims to the contrary, isn’t exactly stupid. It can see Indonesia wants them to attack and so it’s holding back (so far) it’s more belligerent members. Some eUSA people are probably hoping to wait until the Indos are weaker before attacking. Others are arguing that RWing Indonesia’s non-original territories and starving them of resources is a more gruesome end than a straight attack.

And so we see Indonesia taking another leaf out of the USA’s book and trolling the hell out of the states, calling them weak, pathetic cowards. The concept of cowardice in a game is quite a funny one. Although it is undoubtedly brave to run off a landing craft gun blazing it is less brave to press a ‘fight’ button on a browser game. However the principle is the same. Indonesia expects to be beaten, and it is disappointed that so far nobody else wants to play ball.

Europe ~ Hungary quits PEACE

Hungary quit PEACE as expected today, as the super-alliance undergoes its largest and most impressive transformation yet. With Hungary and Indonesia both now legally separate from the mother alliance they nurtured, the only question is “who will be next?”

I suspect there will be no formal dissolution but rather a few more ‘formal departures’ and then a presumption that the alliance is dead, much as ATLANTIS did. For those of you who are even now clapping hands with joy at the demise of the worlds largest and most powerful alliance, do not get too excited. Despite a formal separation the countries which comprised PEACE remain friends and remain allies, if on a looser basis than was once the case.

I expect that the future of PEACE will mirror that of the future of ATLANTIS. British folk worried about the move can rest assured that our allies will defend us, and that bonds of blood and mutual respect bind the UK to its allies in Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia, and all of their good friends in PEACE.

Conclusion for the day

Don’t count your chickens before they have hatched. At the minute many people are wildly speculating about the future of PEACE countries, and their fear is driving them to irrationalities. Let me explain something very simply:

The Global Community is a brotherhood, not an alliance.

No group of people can spend over a year talking every day and not be very close (game-wise). The PEACE global community is not about the charter, it’s about the friendships forged between those societies. Where language permits, this often involves whole populations. In a post-PEACE world there will be no change in our relationship with our friends, any more than there was when ATLANTIS broke up (with the UK as the notable exception). Be strong.
