The Battle of Britain: Just Over the Horizon?

Day 799, 18:03 Published in USA USA by Lieutenant Scheisskopf

Well, I published just before Jewitt pushed the button 😛

Please note that I do not speak on behalf of any government, and that all speculation below should not be mistaken as policy or intent for any government or alliance.

Some military actions in Europe today should turn attention back to the European front, as eNorway entered the fray with its 4 mutual protection pacts (MPPs) against the eUK, and ePoland launched an attack on the eUK following the eUK’s victory over eSpain in Lower Normandy. Were ePoland to win their battle, they would become the sixth EDEN-aligned nation to border the Phoenix member, joining eCanada, the eUSA, eSpain, eNorway, and eSweden. Half of these EDEN members (eCanada, ePoland, and eSweden) have already activated the eUK’s massive network of MPPs through battles on naturally eUK territories; however, now with eNorway and ePoland’s advances, the wars list for the eUK, even with MPPs, could become an increasingly heavy burden.

The list of active wars between EDEN members and the eUK at 18:00 on Day 799

With this in mind, the eUSA finally crossed the metaphorical Rubicon, and began to region swap with eSpain at Brittany. From here, the final objective could be the eUK, but it could also be eItaly, since an attack on the eUK would not have required this region swap in the first place. All this being said, Jewitt did say that the attack on Lower Normandy is only a block (but could be sarcastic), probably to allow ePoland to win their battle and gain a border with the natural eUK regions, and to prevent eFrance from gaining an upper hand in their liberation war with the eSpanish.

The conspicuously absent country in the eUK's wars list above, until very recently, was the eUSA, despite all the saber rattling from both sides. A New World Battle of eBritain had been clamored for by Phoenix and EDEN for months, but the full-scale battle will start only when the eUSA attacks the eUK proper, as opposed to the attack on Lower Normandy which is a block that does not activate the eUK's MPPs. Only the eUSA, who because of the eUK’s previous blocking wars, has a full list of MPPs and any reasonable chance at winning a battle between the main members of both alliances. The attacks from other EDEN members have demonstrated their individual futility, as Phoenix had won each with walls standing in the millions of points-- most of these were initiative blockers primarily, but none of the EDEN powers could expect to outlast the eUK and 15 of its friends by itself. When the President of the eUSA presses the button to attack the mainland eUK, EDEN’s full campaign would likely follow shortly thereafter.

EDEN’s first steps could consist of any combination of the above

When will the eUSA launch a full strike, and not just a limited block? That has been the million dollar question for two months, so who knows for sure if things will change anytime soon? Here are a few hypothetical times:

- If ePoland wins in Lower Normandy, tomorrow could be the soonest time. This timing would allow ePoland to continue with its initiative against the eUK, although they could also region swap with eSpain to border the eUK in the event that ePoland loses in Lower Normandy (which looks very likely); it would also come at a time convenient for real life (RL) Americans, something which may impact President Jewitt’s decision making. The rest of EDEN’s bordering countries could then open additional battles as well.
- President Jewitt may be wanting to end his presidency with a bang, opting to open the battle later in his term, perhaps as late as 3 or 4 February. Especially if the campaign were successful, eAmericans would remember him as the President who pushed the button for months. Not to mention, a successful attack would satisfy the political goals Jewitt laid out at the beginning of this term.
- More likely is that the attack would come within the first 10 days of the new President’s term, as all three POTUS candidates whose platforms are public (Josh Frost, PigInZen, and Joe Newton) have vowed to push the button.

Although all these scenarios sound nice and maybe even likely, we still need to remember that the invasion of eJapan and the start of the Asian campaign had been on the drawing board for months. For something as epic as an invasion of the eUK, it would be highly doubtful that EDEN would enter it without having done comparable preparations. EDEN would love to teach the turncoat Redcoats a lesson, and Phoenix would love to activate a network of MPPs against most of EDEN for another counterattack. That being said, we may be approaching the time to "put up or shut up." The war that both sides want could be coming, and we could finally put questions of inactivity and boredom to rest.

God Bless America,

Lt. Scheisskopf
