USA-UK
Victories from Day 1 gave the eUSA a foothold in Great Britain, with occupations of Wales and the South West of England. From there, the eUSA and their 6 mutual protection pacts (MPPs) attacked the West Midlands region and the South East of England, but fell behind in both regions and forfeited them to the eUK and their 15 Phoenix allies. Because both regions finished with walls exceeding 700,000 in damage, much of the eUSA and EDEN opted to try again at SE England on Day 806, allowing the attackers to fight and heal twice in this battle before its end. This strategy of allowing multiple fighting and healing cycles, and was important for the eUSA’s success in the initial attack. However, the internet relay chat (IRC) channel used by the eUSA military to communicate and coordinate its orders was compromised by members of the eUK military and gave the Phoenix defenders valuable intelligence for the ongoing fight. As a side note, communications security (COMSEC) is everything in war, even in eRepublik-- if a military cannot communicate freely and independently of their enemies knowing their intentions, even the most foolproof plans could fail.

As mentioned in previous coverage, an EDEN victory at SE England puts the eUK capital of London under threat of attack. After the Day 805 battle in SE England, it is apparent that to assume an EDEN victory should not be a foregone conclusion. Phoenix realizes the significance of keeping EDEN away from London, and with their greater force of MPPs, has been able to consolidate damage effectively against the eUSA while other blocking battles have subsided.

The last time the Spanish attempted an invasion of Great Britain, it didn’t
work out so well. Could eSpain have different fortunes if they tried in eRepublik?

Spain-UK
The eSpanish, after repelling the eUK blocking attack from yesterday, attacked the Picardy region which the eUK won from ePoland on Day 805, and have pushed the wall deep into the underground as the eUK and Phoenix allocate a higher priority to the battles taking place in Great Britain. From Picardy, eSpain could attack natural eUK regions, although the eSpanish also benefit by keeping the region under their control and away from the eUK, who may swap it back to eFrance.

eSpain would only be able to attack SE England from their spot in Europe, which is currently under fire by the eUSA, and can already attack SE England from their position in North Calais. A second major EDEN power attacking SE England may be able to spread Phoenix’s defenses enough to allow one of the battles to succeed, but eSpain has not activated any of the eUK MPPs and may not deem the attack worth the investment of having all of Phoenix activated against it in war. However, because eSpain already declined to attack SE England from North Calais, it looks more likely that the Picardy attack is to win one more naturally eFrench region under its control.

Instead of fighting for the French, the eUSA is now attacking
eFrance and could pay for it later with new MPPs against them.

USA-France
A surprising move in Day 805 involved the eUSA’s two new battles against eFrance, a country with which the eUSA had been pursuing better relations under the previous Josh Frost administration. With attacks against the eFrench regions of Aquitaine, their traditional fortress, and Lower Normandy, the eUSA has activated 11 additional MPPs against its border. Neither battle appears winnable, and was likely intended to help eSpain by keeping the eFrench initiative blocked.

Either way, this quiet move will have long-term implications. The eUSA is slowly allowing for active wars to be started on its borders with a plethora of MPPs lined up against it. Lest anyone forget, this same scenario is what allowed PEACE to run the table in North America during World War 3. At the very least, the eUSA may have solved its activity and retention problem with these new MPPs on its border, as the current or any future eFrench President could push the button and have a slew of Phoenix backers all too anxious to fight the eUSA on its home soil.

There will not be an additional update tomorrow, barring something major happening. I have to start getting The Week That Was together for Friday 😃

God Bless America,
