Public International Poll - Self-sufficiency and eKosovo or
Self-sufficiency, Co-dependency, Independence, Freedom & Self-determination

Self-sufficiency

I play this game for 2 years (since eRep v1.) and although I haven't bought a single gold (yet), I have been investing all my gold I've earned into companies. I've built many companies myself or in joint ventures, I got some companies from Plato, I've given some away and I've sold some. Today I have 23 different companies and I am wondering how much is enough and how much of my normal daily needs do I produce?

Time to Draw a Line and Sum Things Up

So, let's see...

Daz Dillinger - Our Daily Bread
Daz Dillinger - Our Daily Bread

Daily needs

Daily you can spend and recover 2400 health points. (Not counting the candy bars or golden health packs.) You can also normally make 240 hits per day (Again, not counting the candy bars, and presuming that you are not going to work in your companies that day). If you use Q5 weapons, you can make 240 x 2.0 = 480 basic damage points (x your strength influence).

Weapons or Food... What are our Priorities ???
Weapons or Food... What are our Priorities ???

Daily production

But how much of these daily needs do you actually produce?

I did the math for myself:

Bread and fruits

Foo😛 75 %

With 4 Q1 and 1 Q2 food company I produce 900 Q1 food equivalent, which is 1800/2400 health points per day or 75 % of my food needs. (Of course, this depends on number of resources my country gets, and currently we have only 1 food bonus resource.)

Grain

Food Raw Material: 76 %

With total of 7 FRM companies (3 Grain Farms and 4 Fisheries) I cover 911/1200 FRM, which makes 76 % of my daily needs.

Weapons: 27 % (or 61 % if we count food fights)

With a Q4 and a Q2 wep company, I make 13 Q4 and 13 Q2 weapons per day, which is enough only for 78 hits (out of possible 240 hits per day). That makes 13*4*1.8+13*2*1.4=130 basic damage points, which is 130/480 = 27 % of daily needs.

The remaining 162 hits I could use for FF (food or fist fights). That would make another 162 basic damage points or additional 34 %.

Combined I can get up to 61 % of my basic damage points.

Gun food

Weapon Raw Material: 63 %

With 9 WRM companies ranging from Iron Mine to Rubber Plantation I make 1514 of 2400 WRM (2400 WRM is needed to produce 48 Q5 weapons, which is enough for 240 hits per day). That covers 63 % of daily needs for WRM.

Total self-sufficiency: 69 %

My total self-sufficiency is the average of my self-sufficiencies in Food, Weapons, FRM and WRM production:

(0.75+0.76+0.61+0.63)/4= 0.69 = 69 %

Codependency in Relationships

Codependency

How codependent am I?

I did the math and realized that if I am going to hire employees, it is worth only in Q5 raw material companies (Rubber Plantation and Hunting Lodge) or in high Q manufacturing companies (Q5 and possibly Q4 weapons and food companies, of course, depending on resource bonuses and salaries on the job market).

eRepublik Co-dependency

Finally I have employed 5 employees in Q4 wep company and 5 employees in my Rubber plantation company.

Q4 Weapons:

Employees in my Q4 weapons company produce 13 * 5 Q4 Wep = 65 Q4 weapons, which is enough for 260 hits, or 260 * 1.8 = 468 basic damage points.
They also spend 5*520 WRM = 2600 WRM and 5*52 EGP = 260 EGP per day for salaries.

Total gain would be: 1624.35 - 766.35 - 260 EGP which makes equivalent of 24 Q4 wep (at average price of 24.99 EGP per Q4 wep, and 0.33 EGP for WRM).

Weapon raw materials:

My employees on Rubber Plantation company produce 325 * 5 WRM = 1625 WRM and also spend 260 EGP per day for salaries.

Total gain for WRM would be 536.25-260=276.25, which is equal to 837 WRM or additional 11 Q4 weapons.

The rich and the poor

The Rich and the poor

Additional weapons and WRM gains combined make another 35 Q4 weapons available for spending each day. That would be another 140 Q4 weapon hits free to spend (or 52 % of basic point damage).

So my codependency can be transformed into basic damage points (BDP):

CC = Codependency surplus in local currency / Price of Q5 weapons * 2.0

If we combine that with 13 Q4 and 13 Q2 weapons which I make, then it is enough for 140+52+26=212 hits or 192*1.8 + 26*1.4+ 22*1 = 382 basic damage points out of 480, which makes 80 % of basic damage points.

There is still some room for FF (food fights). I can still make 22 FF to get to 240 hits per day (if I for some reason decide not to work that day).

FF = (240-Number of hits from weapons produced by myself - Codependency hits)*1.0 = 22*1.0 = 22 BDP.

So that makes all together 382+22=404 BDP out of 480, which is 84 % of my daily needs for weapons.

How rich or poor am I in total?
(0.75 + 0.76 + 0.84 + 0.63)/4 = 0.75 = 75 %

Rich and poor gap

So in total I can cover 75 % of my needs. That still makes me poor. And I believe that there are very few people who are rich, that is, can cover their basic needs, both in eRep and in RL.

Public International Poll

Q1: How much percent of daily needs of food do you produce?
A1: {Number of Q1 food equivalent / 1200}

Q2: How much percent of daily basic damage do you make?
A2: {Sum (Number of Wep x Wep Q x (1+ 0.2xQ)}

Q3: How much percent of daily needs of food raw materials do you produce?
A3: {Total FRM / 1200}

Q4: How much percent of daily needs of weapon raw materials do you produce?
A4: {Total WRM / 2400}

Q5: How self-sufficient are you?
A5: {(A1 + A2 + A3 + A4)/4}

Q6: How rich or how poor are you in total?
A6: (A1 + A2 + CC + FF + A3 + A4)/4 = 0.75 = 75 %

Oh, yes, and of course, one more question:

Q7: Would you like to see eKosovo in the game as independent country?
A7: Yes or no?

Kosovo Flag

eKosovo in eRepublik

Personally, I'd say, yes; why not, it would be very interesting to see that. It would add some more resources to the game and fighting over them would make this game more interesting. And it would definitely put the strongest eRep nation to stress and endurance test. But that is only my opinion, and it is on you to decide for yourself.

Independence or
Freedom and Self-determination vs. Force

In RL independence is a matter of freedom and self-determination. In general if people of some region, in this case Kosovo, decide (or have decided) that independence is what they want, then it is only force that can make them stay in their former state or country (in this case Serbia). However, that can not be enforced forever, only for a certain period of time, and even if it does happen, then it has very little to do with freedom and human rights. The same principle applies to Palestine, or Northern Ireland, Catalonia and Scotland if you want. The only difference between Palestine and Scotland for example is that Scots haven't decided to become independent from the UK (yet) as they still feel that they have more reasons, perhaps mostly economical, to stay in the UK than to declare independence from it. The big countries like UK, Spain, Romania or Serbia and many others have fear of that happening to them, and it is only fear which keeps them from recognizing such states like Kosovo or Palestine.

However, as once was sai😛

(Or it can be won).

That's why (as someone once said):
Freedom is never free.

P.S. For our Serbian readers I recommend this great article from eRepublik archive:

Ekskluzivni Intervju sa eKosovom
It's written over a year ago and it still holds for the most of things said in it.

Addendum:

I found a very interesting statement by a player calle😛

maverick10 Dodge Knight: Its a simple retention tactic by Admin, made to look 'fair' to the eRep community; in truth they've simply been blackmailed by the Serb pop. lol

Historical Reasons

Thanks to Hostilian and his comments, I did some research of Kosovo history and have checked his claim that "Kosovo was Serbia for the last 15 centuries."

If you look at wiki page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kosovo) or any other page which describes Kosovo history chronologically, you can make a summary of Kosovo history through (military) occupation and control of different forces during the history. More or less precisely it would look like this:

-160BC-476 [636 years] Roman Empire (Italy)
500- 850 [350 years] Byzantium (Greece) 350
850-1018 [168 years] Bulgarian empire (Bulgaria) 168
1018-1190 [172 years] Byzantine/Serbian/Bulgarian Empire (Greece/Serbia/Bulgaria)
1190-1389 [199 years] Rascia (Serbia) 199
1389/1455-1912 [523 years] Ottoman Empire (Turkey) 523
1912 [1 year] Montenegro (Montenegro) 1
1913-1915 [3 years] Serbia (Serbia) 3
1916-1918 [3 years] Bulgaria/Austro-Hungary (Bulgaria/Austria) 3
1918-1929 [10 years] Serbia/Kingdom SHS (Serbia) 10
1929-1941 [12 years] Yugoslavia (Serbia) 12
1941-1944 [4 years] Italy/Albania/Bulgaria/Germany 4
1944 [1 year] Albania/Yugoslavia (Serbia) 1
1945-1990 [45 years] Yugoslavia (Serbia) 45
1990-1995 [5 years] Independence Republic of Kosovo/Serbia 5
1996-1998/1999 [3 years] Serbia/Kosovo war Serbia 1.5 Kosovo 1.5
1999 [1 year] USA/NATO intervention -Serbian troups withdrawal Nato 0.5 Serbia 0.5
2000 UNMIK
1999-2008 [10 years] UNMIK and KFOR UN/NATO 10
2006-2008 [3 years] Talks about Kosovo status (failed in 200😎
2008-2011 [4 years] Kosovo Independence 4

If we simplify it a bit and assign different empires, kingdoms and states to their modern successors, this would, more or less, sum up to this:

Italy 636+4 = 640
Turkey 523 = 523
Greece 350+86 = 436
Serbia 43+199+3+10+12+1+45+2.5+1.5+0.5 = 317.5
Bulgaria 168+43+3+1 = 215
NATO 0.5+10 = 10
Kosovo 2.5+1.5+4 = 8
Germany 1 = 4
Austria 1.5 = 3
Albania 2 = 2
Montenegro 1 = 1
2159.5

So, over 2000 years of history makes historic reasons for not one, but 10 countries to behave possessively to Kosovo. And there is only 6 stars on the flag of Kosovo, representing different nations there today. Kosovo's total population is estimated between 1.9 and 2.2 million with the following ethnic composition: Albanians 92%, Serbs 4%, Bosniaks and Gorans 2%, Turks 1%, Roma 1%. Can they live together there in peace and who can secure that all feel well there? Albanians or Serbs?

EDIT - Conclusion

I've started with this article dealing mostly with e-economical issues, mentioning the eKosovo question only at the end; as it is very actual, so I thought it would be more interesting and it could attract more attention.
Of course I got rather strong response and exchanged many ingame messages mostly with players from eSerbia, which made me realize one thing of which I was not fully aware. For Serbs the question of Kosovo is mostly sentimental issue; because their history is based on a myth. They are aware that there is not much they can do about Kosovo and they are probably aware that Kosovo is lost for Serbia most likely forever.

However, in fact Kosovo is independent (at least from Serbia), although some countries didn't recognize that fact yet.

One More Possible Scenario

I'd add one more possible scenario regarding adding eKosovo to eRepublik. I didn't want to mention it before the poll takes place, in order to minimize the possibility of influencing its results. Anyway, here we have two colliding interests and it is only a matter of which one will prevail. The one is admin's need for money (not to say greed, someone could be insulted, but it's expensive to develop games these days). The other is Serbian stubbornness and sentimentality about Kosovo (and Metohija). As the situation develops, it seems to me that eSerbian lobby is too strong in this game (even for Admins) so I'll mention it here.

There is a possibility for eKosovo to be added as part of Serbia until the day eKosovo is recognized by 100 UN members (currently 81 + Taiwan) and fully accepted to the UN. Then eKosovo's status could be changed to independent country. In this way RL history could be repeated in eRepublik ([e-]Serbia losing [e-]Kosovo (once) again). How would Serbs feel if that happens (again)?

The only question is what will prevail, pragmatism and need for money (greed?) or Serbian stubbornness, steadfastness and sentimentality about Kosovo? Which one looks more promising for eRepublik future? Honestly, none of these looks very promising to me, but future always finds a way to surprise us, don't you think?

Janko Fran
