mile 0 - no quick alliances
scrabman
All of the world is freaking out and screaming that the sky is falling with the disintegration of ATLANTIS. It is not. The media is full of Swedes, Germans, and everyone else screaming about defense, attack, betrayal, assholery, and about what the new alliances are going to be. I could write a whole article about it but I'll direct you, instead, to the recent article of my new Secretary of State, Harrison Richardson (yesterday Inwegen stepped down and moved over as my Chief of Staff).

Let me state this clearly and unequivocally. So long as I am President we are not joining any new alliance as a knee jerk reaction to a bunch of spastic fear mongers and worriers running around and freaking out about the state of the world.
We will not be joining any new alliance until we have had a chance to see the state of the new world. I can assure you that the world will change at least 8 times in the next 3 weeks and we will not be the same then as we are now. Today Sweden captured part of Germany and then South Korea attacked Japan. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? What I can tell you is that the United States is remaining as neutral as we can during this time of turmoil and conserving our limited resources for our most strategic battles. We are not rushing to create our own alliance nor are we going to hurriedly join someone else's alliance just so that we can tell ourselves that we are safe. We will continue our War Games soon and will give our people a chance to train. We are not going to try to police the world as we cannot afford the price tag. We are not Romania nor are we Indo ... we will soon find out who we are and then we will move forward.
We cannot enter into alliances until we are acquainted with the designs of our neighbors. - Sun Tzu

Lol, well, I just realized when the US gets into a new alliance or begins discussions, I'll be well into my trip to Peru. So I'll have to look at it from outside.
Well said!

Remaining neutral makes you sound like President Wilson.
good advertising of the canada article scrabby
Voted. A clear and calm mind is always best.
Death to the non-believers !
Voted. Very nice explanation. I don't really want another war going on now. Well, maybe some war games. 😛
Really...you could change the title name but not capitalize the first letter? Your driving me insane with that
"Really...you could change the title name but not capitalize the first letter? Your driving me insane with that"
I've always been a fan of poets like Emily Dickinson and e.e. cummings. Sam types in bold ... I use ellipses and don't capitalize. 😉
Voted. Stay the course, Mr. President.
First Scrab article I've voted for in a while.
well said, scrab.
Voted, and totally agreed.
first Friedrich Nietzsche, now Sun-Tzu.
President Wilson was not a student of these Masters of Government and War, we're fortunate that President Scrabman is.
Scrab, isolationism & neutrality may work short-term, but in the long run it's worth it to pick a side so we don't have to choose. We will already have to choose when it's time, & if I got to pick, I would go against the Imperialists in Sweden.
ouch GLaDOS. not first.
Not that anyone should want to be allied with us anyway...considering we don't honor our MPP's.
@Tyler ... how is hundreds of Americans fighting in Germany with the MPP not honoring our MPPs? Just because I didn't send the military does not mean that the MPP had no value.
Voted. Thanks again for your candid thoughts.
we could always say f' it and just become the isolationists from heck, but thats just me being a smarta**
If only we followed this policy in RL USA.
well put we don't need to jump into some half-assed alliance that will fall apart in 2 weeks.
assholery ftw
Glados not first = fail
What does the disintegration of ATLANTIS do to our MPP web?
"We are not going to try to police the world as we cannot afford the price tag"
If only your Presidents in real life knew that. scrabman for real life President!
Very well said! Thanks for speaking reason.
Voted.
We won't be isolationist...we just have to carefully choose who our allies are and are not rather than rushing into an alliance whose membership is based on fear rather than priciples and will end up working against our interests rather than supporting them.
Voted.
Mjdiv ... expounding on Sun Tzu FTW! 🙂
@ Tyler: many RL Americans chose to fight in Germany as individuals.
The organized US military was ordered to stand down. And it was a serious order.
@ Scrab: I'm a RL American e-living and e-working in eSpain, so maybe I don't have a place in this discussion, but I think you have a point.
Everytime a door closes, another one opens.
We still have our MPP's. Whether they will be honored or not is another question, given the mess that was Germany vs. Sweden. I sincerely hope that is over, by the way.
But as a RL American, I think the President is right to ask us to step back and take our time in terms of who we align with.
Americans-- if we have learned anything from this, I hope we have learned to pick our friends carefully.
Voted and agreed. Good to know someone is wise enough to take a step back before making a decision like this.
OK
Voted!
The sound of the word "neutrality" has such a relieving feel to it.
"we will soon find out who we are and then we will move forward."
The USA Identity Crisis. Good article, nonetheless. Voted.
Voted.
Anyway USA cant isolate and forget who are the true friends of the american people. And I know that President Scrabman is aware of this.
😃
South Korea is merging with japan, thats why their was an attack.
We won't Kanuto ... Spain will remain a vital ally as will Canada and Ireland among others.
Voted, great article Scrab.
