Know Your Military - Part Four

Day 1,004, 17:54 Published in USA USA by Angelini
Due to the previous installments being released before V2 was released, the articles covering the Training Corps, National Guard, and Mobile Infantry have been updated to reflect the updated requirements.

Few of our military’s branches can claim to have been around as long as the Army has. Conceived towards the end of 2008, at the same time as the original National Guard and the Marine Corps, the Army was the everyman’s branch. Where the National Guard took anyone who didn’t want to move out of the country (for political or purely personal reasons) and the Marines were the place for strongest fighters (in regards to both ingame strength and activity), the Army was where the average citizen could go if he or she wanted to experience the thrill of serving. Though it went through a tough period of relative inactivity in the beginning of 2009, it was revived and made stronger than ever by than General Knojerakk (RIP). The Army became so active, and large, that in February of 2010, under General Hadrian X it was split into two groups: Army Group East and Army Group West. While the two groups functioned as seperate branches, they were regarded as a single unit until June 2010, when the Army Group East was restructured and renamed. This left the Army Group West to revert back into the only branch to hold the name....

Army

Commanding Officer: General bombonato
Executive Officer: TBD
Requirements: Graduates of the Training Corps are preferred but exceptions can be made on a case by case basis.
Level - Ranger in one weapon skill
Rank - Colonel
Activity - Must be able to check for orders multiple times per day. IRC usage is preferred but not mandatory.

The Army is and has always been one of the largest branches in the eUS Military. Ever innovative, it’s officers are always looking for new ways to improve the experience of it’s members. Every new soldier can expect to go through the Army’s Reception Battalion (RECBN). The RECBN teaches new soldiers about the Army way of doing things, such as how Army soldiers request supplies to the Army specific chain of command. The Army also has an elite group within it’s ranks called the Army Rangers. One must obtain a recommendation from a Division Commanding Officer and than the approval of the General to enter the Ranger’s ranks.

The Army currently has a number of companies in raw materials and various weapons. Currently it is not mandatory to work at these companies but that may change in the near future. Active officers are always in demand. Officers are expected to have a high level of activity in game, on the forum, and on IRC. Good leadership skills and the ability to motivate soldiers to do the same are preferable as well.

Policy regarding participation in politics: As a mobile branch, serving in a political position that impedes on one’s ability to move out of the country (ie. congress, party or country president) is not allowed in the Army. If one wishes to serve in one of these positions, they would be expected to transfer to the National Guard. Anti-Take Over participation is highly encouraged, so serving in a party can be difficult as one would be holding a foreign citizenship request.

Interview with a member of the Army

Sergeant wakyz is the platoon Executive Officer (XO) of the Fifth Division, Second Platoon. He was gracious enough to take some time and answer some questions.

1. When did you join the Army, and how did you become a member (transfer from another branch, straight admission, etc)?

It was about a week or two after my eBirth, so July of 2009. I was in the TD when Tresville contacted me about moving straight to the army, even though I hadn’t gotten my letter in the mail saying I had passed (the TD exams). He said he was looking for fresh, good recruits to fill a new platoon. That platoon was the 5/2 (5th Division, 2nd Platoon).

2. Have you been in the same platoon the entire time you’ve been in the Army?

Yes, I have never moved to a different platoon inside the Army. I have left the Army for periods of time though, for different reasons.

3. So you’re a platoon XO now, have you ever held a higher position? Do you want to?

I’m acting CO (Commanding Officer), and no, I have never held a higher position, despite being in the army for most of my year playing, with most of the time spent in the army as an XO. I WOULD like to hold a higher position though, especially if the army revamps the command system so that officers have tactical authority on the battlefield.

4. Do you have a favorite battle that sticks out in your mind as memorable?

I have a few. I always like to show off the fact that my first ever battle when I reached lvl 5 was against the Huns in Scotland. I like to say even when I was a noob, I was still fighting the good fight 😉 I also like the first battle for California against the Indos during WWIII, just because of the tension and all that, it was very fun. In a fun period too. Then the battle for Florida, though it never happened, that would have most likely made my number one. Over 1 million wall to start.

5. How would you rate how often and efficiently you are supplied?

During V1, we were supplied with 10 Q1 weapons every other day. Now that V2 has rolled out, you can request a weapon when your current weapon gets to either 10 durability or half, because each type has different stats. Also, the army recently supplied crappy Q0.000000001 helis to everyone so that you can take part in capturing tiles even if you’re not a career heli.

6. Do you have any words of advice for someone interested in joining the Army, or on the flip side of that, someone who is hesitant in considering joining the Army?

I would say that the army is a great place filled with(mostly) great people, the requirements and restrictions aren’t too harsh, and it’s a very good community.

7. Anything you would like to add?

Request a direct transfer to the 5/2, I just recently cleaned out most of my platoon and need new recruits 😛

This concludes part four of the “Know Your Military” series. Thank you very much to both Sergeant wakyz for taking time for the interview and to Colonel heliarc for clarifying Army information for me.

Stay tuned for the next installment covering the Cavalry.
