Know Your Military - Part One

Day 942, 16:50 Published in USA USA by Angelini

I have been privy to many conversations about the military in general. In these conversations I have noticed certain misconceptions that seem to be commonly held beliefs. My next few articles will serve as informative pieces on the different branches of the military. How they are similar, how they different, and what is expected of you in each branch.

I have been a member of the military since March of 2009. I am still playing this game today largely due to the military community. The military is an incredibly large body of citizens, numbering in the hundreds between the seven branches. When I started in the military I joined the National Guard 2nd Division. At the time, it was the induction and training division for the three branches of the military; the National Guard, Army, and Marine Corps. By May of 2009, the NG 2nd Division was renamed the Training Division. It operated as a stand alone branch responsible for the training of future soldiers. In September of 2009 the Training Division was disbanded and remade into the Training Corps. Now, without further ado -

The Training Corps

Commanding Officer: General Bia Pandora
Executive Officer: Lieutenant General Nuriessa
Newspaper: Training Corps Tribune
Enlistment: Application Form

The starting block. The Training Corps is where you begin your military career, whether you be a new citizen or an old citizen. The TC training program is designed to give you all the knowledge you need to be successful in the military. The training includes a how-to for fighting, a breakdown of the brother branches, understanding of how orders are given and where they come from, and a history of events to give soldiers an understanding of why the New World is the way it is today. Complimentary to the training, every platoon commanding officer and executive officer is ready and willing to give advice or help in whatever way they can.

Besides the Training Division, the TC also has an active fighting branch where soldiers are supplied with weapons and fight with the rest of the military. The TC is equipped with a number of companies to help supplement the funding given to them by Congress. Work at these companies is mandatory for a select group with the TC.

Officer positions are available to those who are interested and can show that they have the drive to propel the TC into continued success.

Policy regarding participation in politics: The TC has no restrictions against members serving in any aspect of politics. Notable examples are former Branch XO Abayarde (former multi term congressman) and Lieutenant Harrison Richardson (former President of the eUnited States).

Interview with a Member of the TC

Lieutenant Magic Fridge is the Commanding Officer of the 322nd platoon, aka The Spartans, General Bia Pandora's old platoon. He was willing to take some time to answer a few questions that I had for him.

1. When did you join the TC, and how did you find out about it?

I joined on April 27th and I was PMed by Captain Bishop M, then MSgt. BishopM who found me on the eUS forums.

2. What did you think of the TC's training course?

I think the entire thing was good, but the history section was the best part because before that I had no idea about ATLANTIS, Peace, EDEN, etc.

3. Why did you decide to stay with the TC when you were finished your training?

I wanted to apply for the Army when I reached the strength requirement, but I realized it would take me a while so I might as well apply for officership.

4. Have you reached that req. yet?

Nope XD I advanced faster than I expected.

5. Do you still think you’ll transfer after you reach it?

I really haven't decided yet but...I'm leaning towards yes.

6. What do you consider the most rewarding aspect of being a platoon CO?

I feel that the most rewarding aspect is seeing the troops in my platoon go on to bigger and better places aka branches/officership and knowing that I was a part of that process.

7. Any advice for anyone who is on the fence about joining the military?

At least give it a shot, you never know what will happen when you do.

This concludes part one of the “Know your Military” series. A very large thanks to Lt. Magic Fridge for taking time out of his day to speak to me as well as a big thank you to Lieutenant Colonels AmyHat and Morrigan Alexandros for answering my questions and clearing up a few points for me.

Stay tuned for the next installment covering the National Guard.
