Give The Gift Of Freedom

A VERY SPECIAL

Christmas Eve Issue
"Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." ~Jesus in John 8:31 KJV

Merry Christmas
I celebrate Christmas, though I'm not very religious. You can all figure out why (hint: presents). So sorry for those who don't celebrate Christmas. I'm sure your holidays are just as good. Here's a song about that.

Now, some of you may know what I want for Christmas this year: to become a Senator. That's a pretty naked truth. And I'm running against an incumbent who's well-liked by Congress. Actually, I have nothing against him. But I don't have anything for him. You see, he hasn't published an article in his paper for over a year. I have no way to learn about him. He hasn't even run with a presentation in forever. And maybe I'm calling him out on this fact. And now he's in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation, because I can say he's reacting to me if he ever publishes one.

(Silly Santa, you give gifts inside the house)

But again, since I have nothing against my opponent, you might of noticed that the last issue of The Fieldist was a bit caustic, and have said, "Sam, what are you moaning about?" Well, I'm angry that certain members of Congress have justified their incumbency with an argument that they have all the experience. As though experience was a mysterious object that only they've figured out the secret to.

I want to be clear, I'm not arguing against elitism here. Elites are fine. And people can argue that there are plenty of non-congress positions within government. Fine. Put the experienced people there. Congress is for democrats (small "d"). It's for people who believe that being voted into power means you owe something to the people and you're willing to understand that you can be voted out. It doesn't mean that you can justify your continued existence in that body simply because you've been there for a while.

You have to prove to us what you're doing with that experience; not that you have it.

Now, what will I do if elected to Congress? After all, criticism is easy, solutions are hard.

(I'll look deep into your eyes...)

Well, first, I'll be arguing for government transparency. Our Congress fights its battles behind closed doors, and we get only the scraps they're willing to throw us. When Joe DaSmoe published the public budget, he took a lot of heat for doing so, for bringing his arguments to the people. Certainly, we can take into account secrecy to prevent Phoenix from taking advantage, but we needn't keep everything as secret as possible.

Second, I'll create myself a staff. This seems like a simple thing to do, but really, it's important that Senators have staffs. I often miss things, important things, and it'd be nice to have a staff scanning media and giving me summaries of what's going on. It's a great way to utilize newer players and get them involved in media and politics as well. Furthermore staff can be used to amplify my message as well, and to connect with people from across the state, the country, and even the world.

Third, I'll push to make Rhode Island either the US capital or a military staging ground. It makes no sense for California to be a military base. Florida, as the capital, makes sense. But if an invasion is coming through California, at that point, we've probably already failed from a military standpoint. At the very least, our military needs to be stationed further east.

I have more, but these are three items which I'm gonna run my campaign on. So how can you help? Well, I'd like it if you came to RI and voted for me, but I understand you might have other commitments. So instead, if you're running for something, put this:

in your presentation. Let people know what you believe in. Link back to this article in your paper so people understand what it's about. Shout it out. This is a non-partisan movement. Fresh blood is running in nearly every state and territory and under every party's name. Even if you're running against someone in the Christmas Movement, you can join in this. Even if you're already in Congress and are running for re-election, you can join this.

If you're committed to extending the most amount of fun to the maximum number of people, the Christmas Movement is the movement for you. If you want more people experienced, the Christmas Movement is for you.

Even if only a few members get elected, that'll be a start. I'll create a list here, and update it as others notify me they'd like to be in it or show me their article where they've signaled their support. And one needn't be running to support this, go ahead and post an article supporting it.

A Sixth Party, the ACLU has seen fit to endorse me. More endorsements, please!

Vice President PigInZen has endorsed me as "politically pure"; i.e., I put America first.

Also, the UIP has endorsed me.

And the Libertarians have too, but that was obvious.
