Freedom! Forever! - Foreign Affairs

Day 1,504, 00:38 Published in Switzerland Switzerland by Monsieur Guillontine

Independence

My dear disciples,

Where have our regions gone? Nation after nation has toiled through our lands. Even when we had a successful treaty with the Slovenians which lasted for more than a month, why did it have to crumble away? We allowed the Americans to borrow our regions, and now our relations with Slovenia are as tense as they used to be. Switzerland’s foreign policy is one of the most difficult obstacles we must overcome as a community to be able to accomplish anything. I myself have had to navigate these tricky waters for some time now, as I have served Minister of Foreign Affairs for three consecutive terms already.

And yet, although our country is being trampled on by stronger nations, I believe that it is important to remain realistic and seek practical solutions. It is clear from the previous deal that it is possible to reach solutions with the Slovenians. Although they might not last a long time, ultimately it is some relief on our small country. Perhaps someday we will not have to bow down to others, but until then, there are no other possibilities which can guarantee the Swiss people safety. That is why I am willing to negotiate with the Slovenians once again for at least the region of Graubunden, which will not interfere with their cattle or wood resource bonuses. With a region, we will be able to accept citizenship applications once again, as well as reform the economic disaster our nation is currently in. With that being said, we will then be able to achieve freedom… forever!

Renting Vorarlberg

Our neighbors, the Austrians, have been living peacefully beside us for some time now, and our relationship with them has definitely grown over the past few months. As Minister of Foreign Affairs, I have been conversing with many influential Austrian citizens, and we have reached a conclusion that it would benefit both nations if Switzerland was able to rent Vorarlberg, a region right next to Graubunden which contained deer. Switzerland would pay Austria 50 GOLD each month for Vorarlberg, and in return, we will be able to not only have 10 more Congress seats, but also a sustainable resource bonus to help our economy along. Although it will be a little bit of a challenge for us to actually win some battles against Austria, I’m sure with some strategic organizing from both the Swiss and Austrian Minister of Defence, we will be able to quickly transfer Vorarlberg’s ownership to Switzerland. With that being said, our nation will be moving forward, and slowly but surely expanding into a fully functioning country. Freedom… Forever!

European Union

For some time now, I have seen that even though Switzerland has some foreign friends, most of the time, there is little international help for our defenseless nation when fighting against powerful countries. That is why, after talking to countless other European officials, we have been able to discuss the possibility of a new neutral protective alliance called the European Union. What makes this alliance different from similar alliances in the past is that although a nation is a member state of this union, it is still possible, and in fact, encouraged that the nation is still maintaining friendly foreign ties with other nations. And so for example, even if Austria is a part of the European Union, Austria has every right to remain in collaboration with Slovakia. However, it will still be important for Austria to always put other member states of the European Union above all else, in order to keep a safe environment for other neutral European countries.

In addition, membership of the alliance will be very strict. Many will say that this alliance will fall apart without a strong nation with manpower. And yet, I disagree with this statement. If Turkey, for instance, had the desire of joining the European Union, their request will easily be rejected. Why? The European Union is a neutral, protective alliance, and that means that Turkey would not be a suitable member state because it constantly is entangled in alliance wars which would not be of any benefit to other member states of the European Union. The point of the alliance is to enable the member states to cooperate with one another, and stay out of trouble as much as possible.

And thus, I as I have stated, I have been talking to members of different European communities, and as a result, I have been able to rally the nations of Belgium and Austria to back this alliance. If all three of our Congresses can agree on this alliance, I can guarantee that you will have not only new brothers and sisters who will support us, but also a greater sense of security against any threats regarding an invasion. And with the newly accessed protection, we will, I am sure, have freedom… forever!

Yours Truly,
Monsieur Guillontine
