Alliance vs. Neutrality: Pro's and Con's

Pro's and Con's of being neutral and being in an alliance, and my opinion at the bottom.
Neutral
We are currently an official neutral country.
Pro's
- Choose our own allies
- Stay out of alliance wars
- No alliance fees
- Freedom to be friends with country's of both alliances
Con's
- If we're invaded, no real country for back-up
- At the moment, no real allies (Not even China can be called a true ally right now)
- At the moment, not very liked around the world, as India has always sort of gone back and forth between each alliance
- No country to send military or financial aid (Exception: China in India-Pakistan war)
Alliance
One of the main features in eRepublik.
Pro's
- Allies to help give support
- Definite friends and allies
- Training Wars, and constant wars to fight in everyday
- Excitement of being in an alliance
- Bigger chance of a Babyboom, as new citizens will see that since India is in an alliance, there's a bigger reason to stay active
- If conquered, allies will help take country back
Con's
- Part of alliance conflicts (Although this could be a pro too, because it gives excitement)
- Alliance fee
- Hard to stay on good terms with country's in enemy alliances
- Will have more enemies
- Chance of being conquered always
The last two points in the Con's of being in an alliance could be debated. Even as a neutral country, India has been conquered completely several times, and being neutral is supposed to protect us from that sort of stuff. We are just starting to recover from the Pakistani invasion, and throughout the history of this country, we have been at war with Indonesia, Iran, and Pakistan multiple times, and have been conquered in several of those wars.
I have never made it a secret that my personal opinion is that we should join an alliance. If being neutral keeps resulting in us getting conquered, then what's the point? Besides, we always seem to side with one alliance or another, which is the reason no one in eRepublik truly believes we're neutral.
It seems that most people in India now support joining an alliance. So say we join an alliance, and then get conquered. Just like when we were neutral. But this time, we'll have more than one country trying to help us get the country back. That's right, allies. Being in an alliance gives you multiple allies.
What can we offer an alliance: First of all, our resources aren't half-bad. Second of all, the one thing we can offer is our location. We're are located in a great place (Meaning, we are the route to many country's). For example, through us, you can get to Pakistan, Iran, and Indonesia quite easily. We are literally in the center of Asia, and nowadays in eRepublik, Asia is becoming the continent to be in.
So there you have it. The Pro's and Con's of neutrality and being in an alliance, and my argument for joining an alliance. If you want, leave a comment about what you think, and if you think something should be added to the Pro's and Con's list, let me know, and I'll add it.

The problem with this is that your presuming we are invited into an Alliance, can I ask you personally which Alliance wants India in it and how do you suggest we finance being in any Alliance?
Yes it would be gr8 to be in a big Alliance and have loads of support but is this a realistic goal right now? I suggest we are better focused working on what we have and developing our structure internally and becoming self dependent then Alliances will seek Indian support instead of us looking weak for any Alliance to accept us.

Well, I didn't mean we join one over-night. I probably made it real confusing, but what I mean is we should think about alliances, and not close our minds to them like we have done in the past.
I agree, we need to focus on the new citizens. But like I said, we should think about alliances, and not block the idea out.

Agreed, we need to be open to Alliance and send dimplomats to seek all options ASAP, once we better understand our options we have a clearer understanding on the way forward.
Does anyone know who will be Allied with who at this stage as I know I personally dont as there is much debate on PANAM, NWO, EDEN etc so I guess we cant do much than build relations and see how things develop. 😒
I'm pretty sure the USA and Brasil are PANAM allies. Canada has been PTO'ed (I think), so they're sort of out of it.
I'm not sure if China's still considering PANAM or not.
right now, being in an alliance is not at all affordable.we dont have gold or tanks to offer to remain in an alliance. we are just gonna be used if we are in an alliance.
Does being Neutral make sense if we still have a threat of being wiped off ? If we say Neutral and then favour one alliance which helps you most then whats the use of Neutrality. We should openly disclose we are pro-alliance (EDEN for example). One point is nobody wants a weak country, we need a babyboom.

Miles, like I said, I didn't mean join one now. I mean let's be open to the idea, and in the future, think about it. Besides, like I said, we offer strategic location.
yeah. so someone would ask us before rolling over. thats not gonna happen, pheenic. we are weak. until and unless, we can offer something, there is no use thinking of these things as all this discussion is waste. i dont see anything positive coming out of debating on hypothetical situations like someone offered us membership in an allince or such.
we have important location. but we will not be told or discussed with when it comes to wiping us. we are nothing as a threat.

right now, germany, even with several hundred more players than india, has the same problem. we're too small and too boring to get substantial support. and that the re-organisation of the powerblocks is far from completed doesn't make the situation easier. but i think like india, there is no way, we could or should try to be neutral.
in my eyes, india needs to expand the good relations to china and come to an agreement with the smaller countries around, to avoid two-front-wars. the rest is luck and hard work, as it always has been 😁

How abt pakistan as a natural enemy ?
When we talk of alliances, i guess we use the term a little too generically. I guess most of us use this term instead of protection (to avoid the feeling of being a lesser partner). But the fact is alliance applies mutual benefit. To be honest, we really dont offer much benefit to anyone who allies with us atm. In my view
1. Make good relations with neighbors to avoid unnecessary wars
2. Build the nation up like Ash, Dave and Pheenic are all refering to .
3. Stop getting worried about being wiped off. Now even companies dont get lost during a wipe..And a wipe off is not too bad for a BB anyway
4. Have MPPs to allow folks to fight and rank up
5. Forget Training wars/NE bonus for now. It just costs too much to even protect a training war against BHeros

India is very very small power and nobody is gonna waste their gold..
also wipe off is not so bad now. we dont have free citizenships in case of no congress which means no PTO on wipeoff.
Yes, Miles, but that doesn't mean that being wiped-out is a good thing. If being neutral means always being at a threat of being conquered, what's the point? In all the time I've been in eRepublik (Close to two years), neutrality has never really improved India.
But like I said, I don't mean we should go out and join an alliance immediately. Like I've said repeatedly, we've always sort of turned away from the idea of joining an alliance. Let's be open to the idea, as neutrality really doesn't work in eRepublik, and besides, we're not even truly neutral.
A majority of Indians want to be pro/join an alliance (79% in the recent survey conducted by David Forde, 103 eIndians participated)
One thing about this discussion : Joining an alliance immediately is not neccesary, lets build up our resources and population but atleast we should be open to the idea as Pheenic said.
