Our CP, DMV3, emigrated to eCan within 10 days of the CP election. He won the election with less than three votes in ten. The third place finisher came within a dozen votes of CP. This was an extraordinary election, very close, and without a clear mandate. This, by itself, is not worth writing about.
DMV has exercised a lot of leadership and has acted with conviction, commendable when considered in isolation. This can create a tenuous situation when you consider the lack of a clear mandate; things are heating up.
The contentious issue of late is DMV3 thrusting upon the people of eCanada membership into CoT and attempting to arrange a marriage if you will between eUS and eCan in hopes of rekindling the "Bromance" of years gone by.
On the comment that was the tipping point for me...
DMV3 wrote in his most recent article that "in retaliation for an inadvertent NE proposal by Mexico of Poland, Spain issued their own NE proposal of Mexico and quickly passed it even as Mexico voted down their proposal. This event may seem insignificant to the casual player, but to me it signified the single most significant event in US/Canadian relations since our falling out all those months ago."
Well, eUS did the same thing. eCan NE'd eUS, eUS replied lightning quick. eCan killed their NE but eUS did not. If eSpain is frowned upon for this, why shouldn't eUS? DMV3's perspective is different, he was eUS at the time, so he cannot appreciate the irony.
eCan and eUS are not in a Bromance. I don't believe that we are fighting either, but we aren't "there"; we are not an item.
eCan knows that it contributed to the break-up, and it has been tough being single since then. eCan even tried to make up, but eUS wasn't interested because they had moved on to CoT. So we moved on, to Asgard.
We have lived very seperate lives ever since.
Its funny how things turn out...
Asgard was no Bromance, and eCan got wiped.
Ironically, eUS found that CoT is no Bromance either, and now it is wiped. eUS obviously needs help and is not satisfied with all the CoT has to offer and would like to augment their support by adding eCan into the fold.
Sorry, but I am personally not interested in a Booty Call..
The times were good when the Bromance was hot and heavy but it isn't anymore. eCan is a small player in eRep, with a population of just over 1,000. We need protection from an alliance and we need to be top notch in our foreign relations so that we don't get into hot water. We need to be a good ally and keep our nose clean.
eUS does not appear to be offering that. They appear to want a booty call that will get them back on the map. What is in it for eCan? eCan took a long-term view when it joined Asgard and it didn't work out. eCan still needs to address its long-term viability when joining its next alliance, and I'm not convinced that CoT is the answer and I"m not convinced that the process of joining CoT helped resolve the issue either. These issues are explored excellently in SaraDroz's article "The CoT Debate".
On joining ACT...
I am a fan of joining ACT at this point. eCan has already capitulated to eSpain, why not join their team and enjoy the protection of the big dawg on the block? In for a penny, in for a pound. I wasn't a fan of the deal in the first place but now that we are here, why not go all the way?
If you are not a fan of ACT, you have to ask yourself "What are the takeaways that eCan gets from its alliance and how do they compare to the giveaways?"
This is key. Without asking these questions, without going through that process of due diligence, how do you know that you are not getting the best deal, or even worse, being deceived?
Consider that we have already defined our giveaways (eSpain has our regions and money under the treaty) and takeaways (we have a congress). Will eUS's Bromance or endorsement of eCan into CoT net eCan a better deal? We are wagering eCan's congress here, and we have not been quoted a benefit nor a cost from CoT nor eUS for anything.
Denouement
Good things come to those who wait. I believe eCan needs to proceed through the alliance application process deliberately and purposefully, with an eye to long-term viability. We don't need a booty call, we need a marriage.

I would have been more comfortable being neutral for a time and weighing more options with a full congress that represents more canadians.
But on the flip side we went with an alliance fast so we can start building closer relationships with CoT now.
The ironic thing is we almost went to CoT before the USA did. Or at least Derphoof/EDP administration wanted to. Just as we were going to vote for it CoT let FYROM in and they had just had a war with the USA. Derphoof decided this would never fly and withdrew it. We joined ASGARD and almost immediately after the USA joined CoT. In hind sight we should of done what was best for us then, but like now, we would not have agreed.
I don't see ACT as an alternative because of geography. We would be in an enemy alliance to the USA and Mexico and we share the same continent. I would see a long and lasting wipe in our future.
better to stay out of these main alliances and do whats best for eCan

If we were in ACT, we'd get protection from TWO. We would be "left alone" and protected so long as we were good allies of TWO. Countries attacking us would be poking the bear.
No ones going to have WW6 over us, unless it is in their own interest to. The USA has more interest in us being free of it's enemies then a power in Europe for obvious geographical reasons.

There is really no good opposition alliance to TWO. The USA is in no position to prosecute a war with anyone, and will not be for some time to come. We are losing badly to Poland every day, and Hungary is drawing closer to being back in our space. If anything eCanada should be worried about what will happen if Hungary decides to take Far Eastern Russia, and then Alaska. It's not in by best interest as a eUSA citizen to say so, but ACT might be a wiser choice then CoT.
If you think joining CoT is controversial. Try joining TWO of ACT.
I think we should have a debate and then vote on it. I'd go along with CoT if that was the will of the nation but I do not believe the will of the nation drove this decision to join CoT
So basically what you are saying is that Canada's Congress, that voted 8:2 does not represent the will of the nation.

I think Addy is just an agent of TWO who want's Canada to join ACT.
Good article though I disagree with most of it I can at least appreciate the thought behind it. Believe me when I say US/Canada relations are not a booty call, but the beginning of something better for both nations. Both Canada and the US made mistakes, but I believe that the majority in both nations learned from those mistakes and wish to rekindle our once hot and heavy relationship.
Sorry, but I believe that most if not all of the present American leadership are still butt hurt over something they caused....
I would disagree with you on that point. I have been speaking with your government fairly regularly and other than an odd person here or there they are glad we're back working together.
Much of the eUS actually favors working with Canada, seems to have some sort of romantic appeal to it. As such, no, we're not all butthurt. Re-gaining a friend after a long period of senseless squabbling is something most of us welcome.

Wally wanted to join before that because we knew a shitstorm was coming but there was no chance in hell we'd have gotten support for it.

That implies that we think Canada would be highly instrumental in regaining all of our regions. I don't believe that is the case. While Canada has its tanks, we all know that it isn't quite what it used to be when it comes to pure damage. Therefore, it's unreasonable to think that we simply want Canada for additional damage when you guys were already on our side and had been fighting for us.
The USA is not interested in "booty calls." We would prefer a lasting and stable relationship with Canada and her people, much like we had in the past. Most eAmericans think of Canada fondly and would certainly like to see our relationship return to what it once was. Although relations are not currently as warm and fuzzy as in the past, they are certainly on the right track. I hope that our nations can continue on that track and truly regain the solid relationship that we had in the past.

eUS is just a bunch of virtual glory hounds.I got booted from #eNPR last night after months of hiatus from IRC because I was a "dick". I'm pretty sure I was verbally attacked first but that's neither here nor there. I'm not here as some part of PTO (not that anyone at all has asked me as such) I'm here because I enjoy somewhat anonymity. As far as the alliances go CoT is pretty crappy IMO. Sort of like Eden was. Priorities are always screwed up and their never around when you need them. Canada would be fine neutral. Canada should have stayed in Asgard and just played possum for awhile. Hell maybe even start a new Eden with old friends like Ireland, Finland and the like. Small countries should stick together.That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Also this is my 3rd if not 4th time in eCan. I applaud DMV3 for his intentions but some vets here and I would also have to agree that you need to get your hands dirty first. Still trying to figure out how he won with only 10 days here.
Actually it was with 5 days in country, and I definitely got my hands dirtier for Canada than a lot of the people upset with my presence here.

In DMV's defence the damage his MU's brought to bear for Canada against Spain this past 8 months has been outstanding. Its been the difference damagewise in innumerable campaigns against the Spaniards, and as often as not led the line. And this support has been ongoing whilst most of the rest of the eUS were content to turn their backs on eCan. From what I could see Praetorian Guards were always laying down more damage even than Asgard allies.
I'm not trying to say he "deserved" a CP medal out of it, but bringing one of the strongest MUs in the game to bear against eCanada's enemies for that length of time is a definite plus in my book.
I'm a former Praetorian Guard NFM. That's all fine, well and good. I'm not a detractor by any means. eUS is notorious for turning their backs on ppl unless it benefits them in some way.

I can appreciate the damage done, but we remained wipe until klop led the nation into the Treaty with eSpain. klop didn't need to inflict damage to regain congress and nine plus regions. Do we really need eUS and CoT?
Again, consider what we enjoy now and the cost. Consider what CoT is offering and the cost. We are wagering a congress here.
Actually Spain made us win Congress in order to have a Congress to pay them. Without damage Canada would still not have a Congress and in all likelihood Spain would have withdrew the NAP if Canada had not been able to come up with the funds as a result of not having a Congress. I know this because I was actually included in a lot of the discussion taking place last month in Canada's government.
We had the money without Congress. Klop and Chochi paid the first installment BEFORE we signed the NAP. Congress gave them the remainder AFTER we were elected.
Apparently you weren't included, or you simply weren't paying attention if you missed these facts.
Also, just because you're willing to throw thousands of dollars at a browser game it doesn't make you a leader. Some of the worst leaders we've had have been VISA cowboys, while some of the best haven't spent a dime.
Your insistence that spending money, and getting your hands dirty somehow justifies your last minute candidature is a farce.

DMV pretty much got his ass disowned by the eUS for eCan's sake when he had his MU tank against Spain. DMV's chosen eCan over listening to the eUS at all for some time, and his reputation here is permanently soiled for his actions.
While I don't want him back--he was growing damned destructive for US-AIM and ruining our ability to work with the government without his name coming up--DMV's damned set on seeing eCan get somewhere. I don't understand it, but if he can make eCan more than nothing, you best be thanking rather than looking to give the man the boot.
While the rest of us were hoping not to upset Spain and pretending they wouldn't attack if we ignored them, DMV went all in for eCan and brought PG with him. Don't think he hasn't done anything for you. Not a damned one of you liked Spain while it owned you, but now you want to submit to TWO as their pet?
Just to be clear, he had nothing to do with us reaching a resolution with Spain.
Top read, agree 100%. eCanada should have at least felt ACT/TWO out to determine the potential of them joining, and the eCanadian populace been presented with what membership of that alliance would offer eCanada, instead of this "emergency" entrance into CoT. Which feels kinda fly-by-night imo.
Well Rylde was the driving force in your falling out with the US
It had started long before Rylde's presidency. eCanada was politically unstable for quite a while, and relations with eUSA suffered during that period. Rylde just put the final nail in the coffin, and had pretty good reasons for doing so with the whole CTRL debacle.

You know, eSerbia have, once upon a time, occupied Montenegrin Coast. It was our, one of, bridge to resources, we pay them for that territory and it was not true occupation. It was more like helping a friend (eMontenegro helps eSerbia). So, you could look at eCanada-eSpain agreement on that way 😃.
Helping to ally. Joining ACT would not be such a bad idea. You could have your agreements with eSpain, and protection from TWO. You would not even be asked to attack eUSA ever, just NOT TO FIGHT FOR them. In TWO were problems with eSpain-eChile relations, but it was cause of theirs MPP. Nobody ever asked eSpain to fight against eChile, just to be neutral in those fights of theirs with eArgentina (pro-TWO country). Like that, you could be just asked not to fight for eUSA and not to have MPP with them. eMexico also. Nothing more. You are making one mistake. You are just looking at eSpain like kind of enemy's that can occupy your country eventually. But you are open to few more of them. Especially after joining CoT 😉 Man can never know what can happen' 🙂 It’s your choice, anyway.

If they wanted to be our allies they could at least proposed a trade. The regions they want for spanish protection of the others. It would be hard to swallow but we could gain something in return other than congressmen...
Who said that allies need to be friends? Reframe what you consider an ally. An ally keeps his word and is loyal to the commitments you have made to each other. eSpain and eCanada have made commitments to each other, we are not friends, we are not allies, but we are closer to allies than we are to friends.
Consider what we give and what we get from an alliance, and then frame what an ally is. What will we get from CoT that eSpain hasn't already provided? Can they do it for cheaper?
An alliance is based on trust or at the very least the fulfillment of common goals. Up until now (unless we like to give money) canadian relations with Spain stands pretty much unilateral. We commit not because it's our word on the line but we're being threatened by another prolonged wipe
I don't think our goal must be to simply "be up" but to "stay up". I'm very disappointed to reach the conclusion that to stay up long enough, eCanada needs to turn itself into an unprofitable country to invade.

Hmmm, it would be nice to have known about ACT before the other alliance debate and vote finished. ACT is not even listed on the alliance ranking page. Before you continue to sell ACT, maybe provide us in a future article with some more info on the package deal.
People wanted to be closer to eUSA and it's what they got. I didn't see anyone saying anything about ACT or an alliance other than CoT. Feels like people were waiting around for something to happen post-treaty with Spain and post-partum from Asgard. DMV came in and filled the void with what people wished for. I'm glad he did it so abruptly, in one way, because it got people off their butts in a reactionary way and looking for other options. Job well done, imho.
