[USHLAU] Number 3

Day 2,971, 15:21 Published in Germany Denmark by Ushlau

All good things come in three so I obvious have to write one more article to celebrate the anniversary of our beloved union, which we all know as Germark.

The first article addressed whether we still are a union and whether we still want the Union. My answer is yes and from the responses I got in comments as well as in PMs it seems you agreed.
In the second article, I addressed costs, how they are shared between the Union members and whether it is fair. My personal conclusion was that the sharing of cost is pretty fair. I had fewer responses this time, but all in all people tended to agree and when inquired further it seems that only a handful of people really, truly cared about that. I like to believe that my article cleared the air a bit a removed some of the misunderstandings.

This time I like to address how one member country of the Union is governed. Obvious my focus will be on eDenmark as this is the country I know most about, however I sincerely hope that the people of eGermany will find this presentation of their Union partner interesting.

eDenmark does not have a constitution as such, but we have always have certain unspoken rules and customs which all eDanes are expected to oblige to. Recent events inspired us to put these fundamental values in writing and while they are sufficiently vague to allow some flexibility in the governing of the country, they do express how the majority of the eDanes want decisions to be taken in eDenmark – which is also how it has been for years. You can read them here but in the following I will give the headlines and more importantly the spirit of the “rules”. As the “rules” comes from customs developed over years, the spirit in which they are written is more important than the actual wording.

eDenmark is in general governed by consensus. Voting are rarely used, but rather we attempt to make decisions which everyone can accept. This is obvious only possible because of eDenmarks tiny and homogenous population – had the population been greater and more diverse I am sure we would have had to use voting much more. On a personal note I would say that this way of making decisions is also very much in line with Danish/Scandinavian mentality – but maybe that is just me…?

As eDenmark as mentioned has a rather tiny population we are, as all other small countries, in risk of PTO (political take over) and MTO (military take over). PTO has always been a concern in eDenmark. MTO became with the introduction of the Dictator feature one extra risk factor, but also something to use as shield against PTO - which most countries have discovered.
PTO has historically always been one of the primary concerns in eDenmark as succesfull PTO has a tendency to destroy small countries. eGemarny obvious also have an interest in keeping eDenmark safe from the PTO’s from e.g. Serbia, Brazil and other nationalities that through the years have tried their luck, as a hostile satellite state in the backyard is never nice.

To cope with PTO and MTO attempts a fundamental concept in the governing of eDenmark is there for the concept of trusted eDanes. Only trusted eDanes are to have influence on eDanish politics and only trusted eDanes are to hold government positions. Not-trusted eDanes are not to have any place in politics and are not to represent eDenmark in any way. Obvious they are to be prevented from being in a position where they can hand out citizenships to fellow PTOs and obvious they are to be prevented from gaining access to eDanish funds.
The trusted eDanes are:
1. Real life Danes, automatically trusted unless they clearly demonstrate otherwise.
2. None real life eDanes, will be considered trusted when a sufficient amount of players in the trusted group consider them trusted.

Notice there is no voting or similar – whether an eDane is trusted or not are in general decided by consensus. If an otherwise trusted eDane demonstrates that she/he is disloyal to the fundamental values of eDenmark she/he can naturally also be marked as not-trusted – again this is done by consensus among the rest of the trusted eDanes.

Though the eDanes do a lot themselves to prevent PTO and MTO the final defence is the union with eGermany. eGermany is the safeguard in case a PTO attempt, as eGermany will quickly wipe eDenmark and hence preventing congress election where PTOers potentially could win a spot in the congress (this has been done on numerous occasions). Similar in case of an MTO eGermany will fight for the interest of the trusted eDanes as the eDanes will fight for eGermany in case of MTO attempts against eGermany – obviously, a successful MTO in eGermany could be devastating for the security of eDenmark.

A final measure against anyone considering a PTO or MTO in eDenmark is also that if successful eDenmark will go into hibernation indefinitely and a PTOer or MTOer will be denied any benefit. eDenmark will be wiped and both eDanes and eGermans will ensure it stays that way – it has been done before – and all eDanes accept that that is the consequence of a successful PTO or MTO.

This support from eGermany in preventing PTOs and MTOs are probably the single biggest benefit eDenmark reaps from our now four years old union. The fact the trusted eDanes continuously are allowed to be masters of the own house, though several PTO/MTO attempts through the years, is a testament to the value of the Union and why all eDanes should be grateful for the Union!
