[USHLAU] Greetings from eDenmark!

Day 2,961, 16:56 Published in Germany Denmark by Ushlau

Earlier today I was looking for a reason for a law proposed and was bitching a bit on IRC how the communication in our beloved Union isn’t as it used to be. n0s3 obviously quickly as always provided the answer and I calmed down. However it made me wonder whether it was just me that have had that feeling? (And this being fairly late at night it seems sensible to write an article instead of going to bed). Don’t get me wrong – I believe firmly in the Union and I like to believe I have proven my loyality both in politics and on the battlefield. But have something changed? Have mistrust sneaked into our soon 4 year old union – or are we all just a bit slaggy because of the holiday season?

I can see how I can happen though. We used to have quite a few RL Germans swapping their CS to Danish and being very active and valuable members of the Danish community. This meant that there constantly was a close tie between the two communities and the bond was constantly renewed as new Germans came to Denmark and the “old” returned home. Currently we have no Germans with Danish CS – we haven’t had any for a while…

However, do we still fight for each other? Do we still have each other backs?

Clearly, we can’t win all battles at all times, but do a Dane think of the liberation or defense of German cores as being as important as Danish cores? And do a German feel the same the other way around? I’d like to think so. The game mechanics with True Patriot medals obvious mean that it is more attractive to fight for the country for which you have CS, so it is not unexpected that Germans on average fight harder in German battles, while Danes fight harder in Danish battles.

How about COs then? Do we put COs on each other important battles? Other allies do that. I suppose the answer here is: “sometimes”. The Danish COs are primary in the battles where the nation Denmark is involved. Germany is better at setting COs for its Union partner – particular in the latest war against Sweden. Clearly this is something that can be improved.
This leads to the next question. Do we share expenses fairly?

It is obvious that we don’t share them equally – Germany pays clearly the bulk of the costs – no doubt about that. The treaty is fairly clear though:

§5
a) Common expenses are declared as expenses, where every member of the union has the option to benefit from. For example MPP-Costs and supplies for Common-Hits and Wars.
b) The Union-Partner Denmark will participate in these costs with a monthly payment of 20% of their monthly tax-income to the german financial Organisation “Bundesbank”.
c) The Governments of all Union-Partners have to be informed in advance before any costing actions are launched. MoFA and MoD of all Union-Partners should cooperate as well as possible.
d) The Governments of all Union-Partners have to be informed before any warlike operations are initiated.

The detailed cost sharing thing have never really been followed as far as I know. Germany pays all the MPPs which Denmark obviously also benefits from. The monthly donations of the 20% of the Danish income isn’t really happening. I suppose it is because the Danish tax income is so tiny that it doesn’t matter (100 cc/day or so) – anyway Germany haven’t returned the Danish tax money for occupied regions for over a year and Germany can freely, as we are a union, hold the Danish regions without any kind of rent payment. I haven’t heard anyone grunt about this so I suppose it’s cool. However is it?

The fact that Denmarks income is none existing also mean that Denmark constantly is in a bit of predicament. It is well known that Denmark have a fair amount of cash stashed away. Obviously it would be nice to throw money at war and create a bit of activity – but it will be a one shot – no new cash will become available – we cannot rebuild this treasury.
§5c and §5d are also only loosely being followed. The communication have been better – I am not pointer fingers here – just saying that if we want this unionen this could be a place to improve.

What am I trying to say? I don’t know. Maybe: Are we still an union? Are we still friends? Do we have each other backs?
My answer is "Yes" to all 3 questions. What is yours?
