[Stilpo] July Bonus Section Results

Day 2,125, 13:24 Published in Ireland Ireland by Stilpo

Hello again eIreland,

Below are the results of the bonus section for JULY’s government evaluation survey. This bonus section asked a few questions about MrConway and his integration back into Irish society. I apologize for not publishing this sooner, but I have been busy IRL and I felt, as most people who took this survey apparently did, that there were better things I could be doing with my time. Regardless, some people have requested to see the results, so here are they are.

DISCLAIMER: This survey is intended for ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY. As with all of my surveys, it is not intended to serve as any kind of official public judgment or referendum regarding any of the persons involved. The only meaning that these results have is the meaning that readers choose to assign themselves.

PARTICIPATION

As you may or may not remember, July’s installment of the Government Evaluation Survey had a record-low level of participation (only 28 people, compared to 45 people in August). Thus these results should be viewed with an appropriate level of skepticism. Below is a breakdown of participation in the July survey by party. Importantly, because only 3 major parties fielded more than one participant, there is not enough data to do any kind of analysis by party.

RESULTS

Note: All personal comments from July's bonus section can be found, can be found HERE.

"Aside from his reputation, how well do you personally know MrConway?"

Mean response: 2.96 (somewhat well)

In total, 64% of people who took this survey know MrConway at least somewhat well; 36% do not know him well.

"MrConway is a traitor to Ireland." (agree or disagree?)

Mean response: 2.57 (neither agree nor disagree)

In total, 43% of people who took this survey agree (either strongly or somewhat) that Mr. Conway is a traitor; 21% disagree and 32% were unsure.

"We must give MrConway the opportunity to redeem himself and integrate back into Irish society." (agree or disagree?)

Mean response: 2.75 (neither agree nor disagree)

In total, 46% of people who took this survey agreed (either somewhat or strongly) that MrConway should be allowed to participate in Irish society. 32% disagreed (either somewhat or strongly) and 21% were unsure.

"The time and effort spent over the last few weeks debating about MrConway could be better spent on something more constructive." (agree or disagree?)

Mean response: 2.46 (agree)

In total, 54% of people who took this survye agreed (either somewhat or strongly) that that our time could be better spent worrying about something else; 28% disagreed and 18% were unsure.

CONCLUSIONS

In conclusion, there does not appear to be much overwhelming support for either side of the debate about MrConway’s reintegration (at least among the few people who bothered to take the July survey). There does, however, appear to be a general feeling that our time would be better spent discussing more important matters. I tend to agree with this view. As my RL countrywoman Elanor Roosevent once sai😛 “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.”

A quick word about oversight

As I have discussed in previous articles, anyone is free to review the raw data with personally-identifying information about the participants omitted, but I cannot publicize people’s involvement in this or any other survey. To do so would not only be breaking a promise I made to keep people’s participation anonymous, but it would render participants vulnerable to harassment by people with opposing opinions (on both sides of the issue). And, because people (including those from the from the anti-Conway camp) decided to ignore my request back in July to work with me to find a mutually-trusted third party to help oversee the results of this survey, the validity of the results ultimately rest on the readers’ assessment of my personal integrity. If my reputation for honesty is not enough, people are highly encouraged to create their own survey and compare the results. Replication is, after all, the gold-standard by which any opinion poll is validated. This is not an ideal situation, but, then again, it is not an official referendum. As I stated in the introduction, my surveys are for entertainment purposes only.

If anyone would like to offer to help oversee the next survey, please PM me to make arrangements! Please note, however, that such arrangements must be made BEFORE the 20th of each month when the survey announcement goes live, so that potential survey-takers know exactly whose eyes might be looking over their answers. Also, anyone who wants to help oversee the results MUST be someone that I believe most survey-takers would trust not to leak identifying information or hold anyone’s answers against them politically. Thus, this person should be someone who has demonstrated considerable respect for other peoples’ opinions in the past. If this doesn’t describe you personally but you are still worried about oversight, I would be happy to work with you to find someone that we both trust who meets these criteria. I would also be happy to accept more than one person to help oversee the results, provided that they all meet the criteria.

If you have any other questions about this survey, free to send me a PM and I will do my best to accommodate your request.

Thanks for reading

Regards,
Stilpo
