***ATLANTIS: Fines and Where America Stands***
Uncle Sam
In response to all the crying in the media right now about ATLANTIS and them forcing us to pay a 100 Gold fine to the alliance members. I have been quiet on this issue lately simply because I've been working diplomatically with ATLANTIS over the past few days over the issues and here's the fruit of my work.
to Pay or not to Pay?
We're faced with a decision, should we or should we not pay the fine to ATLANTIS? Well, so far the USA has not technically paid anything. I'll explain that situation in a moment. I have made up my mind on this decision and I will pay ATLANTIS the fine, however there are many good reasons for this course of action.
Keeping our Integrity
As an alliance we are supposed to stick together. The USA broke the treaty and as a result we are to follow the rules of it and pay the fine. Now think, what ignoring the treaty would do? For one, if the USA does not pay the fines, ATLANTIS looks horrible as a group, who already voted on the issue. Since the vote was to indeed make us pay, not following through would cause some serious commotion in EVERY ATLANTIS country. We are currently at world war, and this is no time for a civil war.
Furthermore, if we were to ignore the treaty, PEACE would have a field day. The PEACE PR machine would be rolling full gear in all countries, and it would throw ALL on ATLANTIS into total chaos. The complete breakdown of ATLANTIS at a time like this would devastate us, yes the USA personally. We currently have PEACE forces walking towards our country and there will be massive enemy forces knocking at our doors. If we don't pay the fine, we piss off ATLANTIS, and when we piss off ATLANTIS, we end up losing MPP support as well as direct military support right when we're at war.
Where the USA and other allies stands on this fine
As I stated, the USA will pay this fine, however many other ATLANTIS countries have agreed to individually pay us back the 100 gold such as Sweden, Finland, Spain and even the UK. That being said, other ATLANTIS countries are still being negotiated with individually and right now the damage to our funds is minimal. Realize that we're maintaining our integrity as an alliance, however individually showing that we are still close to each other.
More importantly, the treaty does not outline a time frame in which this fine must be paid. Because of this I have discussed the issue with ATLANTIS and they are willing to let us wait quite a time until we pay them the fine that is suitable for us, for example when we are out of this world war.
In regards to the UK Donation
I did in fact pay the UK 100 gold not to long ago today, however this was done as the UK and USA have a tighter time schedule than all other ATLANTIS countries. The 100 gold fine was paid knowing full well between both Presidents of our countries that it would be given back to the USA under the following terms. The first is that we sign an MPP with the UK, and there is nothing wrong there as we can strengthen friendship once again. The other is to send more military support to Romania, something that we planned on doing anyway as soon as we have our own war issues settled. That is another personal project I'm working on right now.
Know all that, so far the USA hasn't really paid any fines yet, however we may in the future depending on how many allies plan on showing their friendship towards us.
Leaving ATLANTIS?
many of you have cried to leave ATLANTIS after these affairs, and I have listened. One of my campaign statements was that if ATLANTIS let us down again we may go looking for other options. Given the circumstances ATLANTIS still has the opportunity to prove itself to us through individual signs of friendship, one of the main things that ATLANTIS was originally based on. So should we leave right now?
No
We don't want to leave right now because we're all at war. If we leave ATLANTIS, the rest of the alliance crumbles. Now while I understand that many Americans would like to see alliance crumble right now, understand that it lets the other alliance gain something. Yes, if we crumble right now, PEACE will take over. If PEACE takes over most hope will be lost. Indonesia will have free reign over the world if they are allowed to win right now, and that is something I'm sure no one wants to see. For now ATLANTIS must remain strong.
When this world war is over, we will take another look at the situation, and evaluate our decisions from there.

I love the respect here.

Hmm I see the fine but ok so be it.
I like it, we need allies to keep kicking ass. Mexico and Portugal need to be smacked around.
Too little, to late, my friend. You ought to have considered making your case to the people before you decided to pay this extortionate idiocy.
I urge congress to consider the repercussions of this.

You cost us this gold. Is it so hard to say "Hey ATLANTIS, I might be doing this?"
tio, you are a true politician...
voted 🙂
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT 😃

War not going so well, Uncle Sham? Didnt I write an article that you chose to ignore...something about Canada a year ago?
Finally something that makes sense! First of all, we won't have to pay the fine to at least four countries. Not only that, but we won't have to pay the fine to the remaining countries until AFTER this World War is over. This seems to be the best option considering there was no truly good answer.
what about an alliance with the Philippines
http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/a-patriotic-force-752437/1/20
.... 😠
So wait, ATLANTIS looks weak if we don't pay the fines, but somehow PEACE will be fooled if we pay them all 100 gold only to have them pay us back?
2 of the voting countries wanted our gold badly enough to cast votes as such when nobody else has had to pay the fine...and yet we're just supposed to trust that they'll pay us back?
If they really wanted to show a solid alliance they'd waive the fine for us as they've waived it in the past for everyone else, they wouldn't just "pay us back" half the fine.
Regardless if Atlantis members return our payment, the principle exists that America is paying a fine that other countries have been exempt from. This biased anti-American treatment is what angers so many. To give in and pay them is not a popular or acceptable action.
I feel like I did after I realized what a horrible mistake I made after voting for W. Bush his first term.
LATEST ORDERS: FIGHT FOR DEFENCE
NO MORE TROOPS IN ROMANIA!!!! if you haven't noticed were are in BIG trouble back home and we NEED those tanks HERE not in some far off county where America stands to gain nothing! Shame on you Sam!
@Fallen and Kosmo: You're wasting your breath. This has been argued repeatedly in the media and the forums. At this point no one's listening.
Um, exactly what "did you stand to gain" from invading Mexico smart guy?
PEACE is winning all over the world!
http://www.erepublik.com/en/battles/fight/6111/0
So, Mr. President, how has this alliance helped us so far in Mexico? If this alliance is so vital, where are our friends?
@Dishmcds
Land and Glory
yeah u should pay the dues like Romania did when they took over Russia. or didnt they?
Ah, is that what you call getting your arse handed to you while you have supply, wellness, and monetary issues....not to mention 15 different countries invading what little "land" you started this mess over?
Yeah, thats worth it alright.
Note: The UK has no President under it's legislation, it has a PM.
I don't like this decision at all. If you are listening to the people then you would know the outstanding majority are against paying any fines, regardless of if the gold is given back. By putting terms on these gold shipments you are only giving other nations leverage over us. I was completely in favor of Operation Taco Bell until this moment. So I'll go brush up on my Portuguese and you keep pandering to ATLANTIS.
Just when I start to believe with you Sam you fail even harder.
Damnet Sam. Why do you do this to us?
"The other is to send more military support to Romania, something that we planned on doing anyway as soon as we have our own war issues settled."
"war issues settled" ???
This Operation was called Taco Bell???
Well, then Portuguese operation is called Chipotle!! Mmmmm i looooove burittos.
Apparantly everyone should be allowed to play eRepublik except for the eUSA, is that your point Dishmcds? I, and many other eAmericans, hadn't had the chance to fight at all until this poorly planned invasion, but I'd rather take part in a poorly planned invasion then nothing at all.
Like I've been saying, you win some, you lose some. Now it's our turn to lose some.
We will recover.
eAmericans, in the eMexican war you have proven that at present due to poor leadership and failing communication you are pretty useless as allies and can't fight even your own wars.
That's the reason you have to pay scutage to you ATLANTIS buddies - so they can fight them for you 🙂
"The other is to send more military support to Romania"
Wait, what?
WHAT?!
Peace at home!
PEACE in the eWorld!
FIGHT FOR RESISTANCE
yes yes, paying the fine and having our money given back is a wonderfull, friendly, and inspiring expression of comradery and unity...
But a mere expression it remains
I'm all for repairing our ties with ATLANTIS but it wont mean jack if they don't send any godamn help.
I mean someone please tell me the hob nobs are working on getting actual military support.
Atlantis isn't doing us a bit of good right now. Are our allies anywhere to be found with PEACE at our doorsteps? And why the devil are we sending troops to Romania when we are threatened at home?
Epic fail!
Mr. President,
This is absurd. The handling of this entire situation is worst foreign political disaster I have ever seen. First you decide to declare war on Mexico to "liberate" it. Fine. But you broke the ATLANTIS treaty. So we ended up with the fine. Why didn't you notify them? And if you did through "non-official" channels as you claim (through your VP) then the fine rests on your shoulders, not the American people. Maybe YOU should be responsible for the fine.
Second, how you can you stand by the decision of ATLANTIS? Its a double edged sword. They enforce the policies they want. Why isn't Romania or Spain getting fined for doing the same thing? And PEACE will be fooled by the "exchange of gold" deal? Come on. The only reason other countries are agreeing to it is because they are trying to save face. We should stand up and do what we need... ignore the fine.
Third, you are talking about sending troops to support ATLANTIS. Why? We have problems of our own. Lets take an eAmerican focus first, then worry about them. Why waste our troops on another country, who broke the same rule we are getting fined for.
Fourth and finally, the choice of battles. This was the last straw in my opinion. I understand that we wanted to finish the war off before Mexico could get MPPs. But towards the end we were starting battles off so fast that orders were not being sent out. Communication fell apart and people started fighting in random places. This is very evident in the current Opposition Battle. Half of eAmericans don't know which side to fight in, or why they should.
I really do put this war on your shoulders Mr. President. This was pathetic, and will end up costing us for months to come. Congratulations, the eUS now looks like a fool.
I think you need to face the fact that if you hadnt attacked Mexiko in the first place, you woudl now not be in the situation of being attacked by peace.
You guys are a bunch of whiners. We are in an alliance. One that has a written agreement between the countries. We broke the rules. We pay the fine. WTF is wrong with you people. Do you expect to rob a bank and not face the consequences? Damn, the idiocy of this country makes me want to leave it.
"NO MORE TROOPS IN ROMANIA!!!! if you haven't noticed were are in BIG trouble back home and we NEED those tanks HERE not in some far off county where America stands to gain nothing! Shame on you Sam!"
Good lord. he said after the current situation is over. Stop bitching.
We didn't break the rules. Sam did.
come Americans, join PEACE
Apparently, eAmerica is the vent for anger against America in RL, because they decide that they want us to pay 900 gold during a world war, which might prove deadly in terms of defense and war for us.
Whiners...the lot of you
@John
Amen.
While I am offended that we must pay the fine, there are set rules. If nobody follows the rules, then what's the point of even being in an alliance? It's like taking out a loan. You're supposed to pay it back, but if you don't, the bank forecloses on your home (which we are seeing too much of in RL America right now).
Are you sending money to the rest?
...and it would have been nice if Congress had an opinion on that decision to send money to England.
"Also, you guys including congress weren't too upset when we first broke the treaty, and most people though, well to hell with it."
I guess that's because I assumed our "allies" in ATLANTIS weren't so petty and short0sighted as to make such a ridiculous and boneheaded demand.
I just could not resist. I think you need to know, but throughout forums an chatrooms, the eUSA is finding nothing more than mockery from both PEACE and ATLANTIS.
I. "and all of a sudden we find our selves in a deeper pile of shit,"
Re: I have serious trouble visualizing such a situation.
Sorry for the heads-up. Again.
Mr. President:
It's not the fact that this treaty was broken. But when you say, "The USA broke the treaty" I respectfully have to disagree. You and congress did, and it's coming out of my pocket. A little acceptance of responsibility would have gained you some goodwill, I think. Everyone makes mistakes, given the prior history with ATLANTIS, I understand why you did what you did.
And I'm sorry to jump on the pile-- I know you've served the US with great effort and zeal. But maybe we just should've held back after getting the Mexican border region. It provided a buffer, and didn't put 8 PEACE countries on the Rio Grande. And while our dreams of a national weapons industry dance in our eyes, most Americans fight bare-handed.
Another MPP with the UK is a waste. Look at who's fighting us in Mexico. And I can quote the UK's PM from another forum:

For too long Atlantis has always given in to the USA and its demands. Now Uncle Sma (sic) had the balls to follow a vote by atlantis that said you had to pay the fine according to the treaty signed by the atlantis founders. Why is it so difficult for america to realise that one has to respect other members of an alliance for the alliance to work?"
Indeed, all members of an alliance have to respect each other. Do you as a citizen respect the UK? Do feel respect from them?

That's the leader of the UK, a country we just paid 100 gold to assuming he'd help us out if PEACE goes after California or Florida? Really?
Right now, we're fighting for our lives, and hopefully we can stop PEACE on the Rio Grande. But this episode should make Americans think hard about how we want to be led in the future.
We're sending more troops to Romania? At the same time that Portugal et al are approaching our Southern front?
What on earth is going on at 1600 Pennsylvania these days?
