Eden - Paradise Lost?

Day 854, 09:25 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by Mr Woldy

Sorry to have lured you in with a deceptive title. Eden was never a paradise..

It is however one of the eWorlds super alliances, and is made from the remnants of ATLANTIS, the alliance the UK used to be in before it collapsed. Now, as old habits die hard it has frequent spats with Phoenix, our current (and the coolest) alliance.

Eden isn't close to collapsing, but some cracks are beginning to show. I intend to take a look at recent events, and apply that analytical mind to try and assess the cause of these problems, and try to foresee what the possible consequences of countries such as the US leaving Eden could create.

Not only that, but I'll take a look at Poland's empire, which is perilously perched on the edge of destruction as well as V2, and the new Hospital and contract rules.

Slovenian Advance - The end of a Polish Empire?

As I mentioned in my previous article, Slovenia has active MPP's against Croatia and Poland, after a failed invasion attempt by Eden. Since then, as predicted Slovenia have shaken off their Croatian aggressors and region swapped through several Italian regions (Friuli-Venezia Guilia, Veneto, Lombardy, and Piedmont) in order to attack the Rhone Alps, as indicated by the red line on this map.

With 6 MPP's activated it will be difficult for Poland to hold onto it's regions under Slovenian attack, and the level of commitment Eden as an alliance is willing to offer in order to hold onto Superfluous regions may not be that high.

As indicated by the blue line on the map, Rhone Alps is not the last stop for Slovenia. One or two more region Swaps with France and Germany and it can relinquish a number of French and German Original regions from Polish control.

In order to try and soak up some damage it seems as though Finland were instructed to attack Russia. In Northern Russia, and Leningrad battles were opened by Finland. This however is a somewhat foolish move as Russia who have been hosting the Phoenix Training Wars has a full host of MPP's, 21 to be precise. These are all now active against Finland. It's not unlikely that Eden may have to choose between Finnish original regions or a certain high Iron region in India in the not too distant future.

Eden - Paradise lost?

Tensions in Eden are beginning to show. Not too recently the leadership was replaced and there is an obvious conflict of interest. There has been since Spain and Poland began invading regions in Europe back when I was Prime Minister, and only now are members of Eden beginning to admit it.

The issue stems from the fact that in one continent, two dominant Eden countries are fighting to protect their empires, whereas in another continent Eden members are fighting to restore the sovereignity of South Africa. There is a definitive split in the fact that the US, Australia and South African troops are trying to shake off Phoenix occupiers, who have wiped SA from the map. Whereas Poland and Spain are fighting for their empires in europe.

It would be easier for them to do so, if they worked together. Unfortunately for them, Eden appears to be an alliance of ego's and with weighted voting in effect it is possible for a couple of large countries to dictate the actions of the alliance. Unlike Phoenix, were all decisions are made by a census of which every country has an equal amount of votes Eden may often make decisions which are unpopular amongst most of it's member states.

The empires of Spain and Poland are large and far flung. This means holding onto them is going to get difficult. But they don't want to let them go. Even if several succesful resistance wars in France and Germany proves their grip is loosening it seems as though the USA won't be sending them any military assistance any time soon, and the idea of leaving Eden is recurring amongst American citizens.

Basically, it seems as though the USA have had enough of being grilled by Eden for directing their damage somewhere their Polish and Spanish owners didn't agree with. What would happen if the USA did decide to leave? In my opinion Eden isn't an alliance of chums. There are two groups of friends who have teamed up out of convenience. If the USA did leave, I would not be surprised if Australia, Canada, and South Africa did too, in order to form their own mini-alliance in which the USA would be heavily depended on.

This would of course leave Phoenix as the only "Super" alliance. Which is why realistically I don't see the USA leaving Eden any time soon. If they did, whatever mini-alliance they form as a result will likely just act as Eden's lapdog and run on a "you scratch my back I'll scratch yours basis". (All be it not too disimiliar to what Eden is already)

V2 Around the Corner, and changes to hospitals and contract rules.

V2 is drawing near and some people are dreading the changes and the large mutant bugs that will come with it, whereas some people welcome the changes, new professions and soldiers with open arms.

The economic module is seeing a complete overhaul, with companies being changed and a whole new range of professions being introduced. Now, general managers will be reliant one a diverse range of players skilled in different areas in order to produce goods. The issue I see with this sort of thing is that two clickers may end up confused and decide to simply stop playing.

I don't see post V2 new players leaving, however those of us who perhaps aren't comfortable with the changes they make will just throw in the towel. After all, the recent changes to the hospital rules have already made a few people stop playing. Changing the world the two clicker has come to know and love may scare a lot of them away. After all, who wants to sit around making their citizen happy if they find it boring IRL.

Speaking of the new hospital rules, they've basically changed it so that we only heal health that we lose in battle. This means we have to spend more money on higher quality foods and perhaps even gifts. I myself am hovering just below 90 wellness and still haven't gotten into the habit of purchasing a higher Q food to make my wellness rise. Many people complained, mainly because it doesn't make sense and we are all now going through our cash preserves at a faster rate than we had anticipated. This as well as Lana is making the eMiddle class poor.

More recently Admins have declared they shall no longer enforce contracts. In my opinion this is the final nail in the coffin for a wide range of ediplomats. NAP's and other country to country agreements, such as the Raleigh Treaty and the Frankfurt Treaty (both Treaties the eUK entered with Ireland and Germany) are made redundant as they cannot be enforced. This simply means the only form of assured friendship in erep is an MPP, which is a whopping 100 gold. Smaller countries may find it difficult to hug their friends, and it is another way admins are making us burn money quicker.

This was already brought into play when Admins declared that country-country agreements were only valid if the CP and every member of congress signed it. Something that realistically would never happen. Fortunately however on whole this game is full of decent players, who I am sure will stick to their word.

If you have an active contract, the admins will still support it, they're just not going to back up any new ones.

All I can say about V2 is, "When I want to grow up, I want to be a helicopter!"

Top.
