The Economic Consequences Of The Pakleds
George Barker
By my count, we are occupied by 11 different countries. Our tax revenues have gone down appreciably, and the key about tax revenues is they represent only about 10% of the actual value lost to the economy, because, using myself as an example, for every $1000 in taxes I pay, I produce roughly $10,000 in goods (weapons and food, in my case). I know that, for me, every day I don't get to work costs the nation roughly $13,000 in lost production. That is food people can eat, weapons people can fight with -- disappeared without a trace. I'm not alone. There are other people still in my state of Colorado with companies who either cannot afford the massive costs of moving their companies (hundreds of thousands of dollars) to a "safe" region, or, simply because they like their state and don't want to move, or simply don't want to be bothered, or don't know about any of this, because communication from the government has been almost non-existent. People are going to quit, because they only want to play in Colorado. And Florida. And Texas. And New York. And Pennsylvania. Or find the notion of having to move -- yet again -- to be too much of a bother, particularly when no one made a real effort to tell them what's going on, and why.
Here, I'm going to say when I first learned of this crazy plan to farm out almost all our regions months ago, I said it was a bad idea, that some people wouldn't move, and that even for those who would, the moving costs would be expensive. No, no, no, I was assured, resources would be set aside, we would make hundreds of gold from all the RWs, it was a great plan. I sent in a question to the last presidential "debate" about the topic of farming regions, which, not to my slightest bit of surprise, was ignored.
Well, here we are. Resources were NOT set aside, they had no plans at all, and the majority of the RW gold is going to the countries that occupy us, not American citizens. Even the BH money is often going to foreigners, particularly in the lower divisions, because we have far more wars going on than we have citizens willing to fight in them. So basically we gave up a guaranteed income stream in taxes and production, in effect told a substantial number of our citizens to f$ck off if they don't like it, in exchange for RW gold that we didn't need. The only people who are profiting from this are the countries who occupy us -- our own citizens are getting screwed. And there is still no plan to remedy this. I have asked around, and no one has been able to tell me anyone in the government was even aware of the tax/production consequences, or had even thought of it.
Let me ask you something: if you hadn't been thinking about this game in awhile, fired it up and looked at a map of what's left of of the eUS, would you think things were going well? Or would you think some catastrophe had hit us? And what would you think if someone told you: "We did this to ourselves"? I want to make this clear, and this is not hyperbole: the people running this country are literally killing it with their ignorance, carelessness, and stubbornness. They have been going down the wrong track for months, and are too arrogant and stupid to stop.
Update: Here is an all-too common state of affairs: an RW in a US region (Colorado, in this case) that is supported entirely by non-US citizens:
50 gold for them, zero gold for us. Colorado alone has the potential to generate more than $60,000 GDP a day, based on the number of active citizens and companies that are there. We are, across the country, throwing away hundreds of thousands of GDP away a day to make other countries rich. You will note that not one coherent argument has been made for why this is a good idea. And not one hint that the government is considering a change in policy.

For Pakled Nation!
totally agree. The TW´s have a considerable effect on the country's GDP and on the productivity of entrepreneurs
I absolutely agree. The question is how many TWs and what type are optimal. We have too many, and have given up too many regions.
If someone thinks that 'communication from the government has been almost non-existent.' about safe regions and the moving program, they are willfully ignorant. There have been shouts and articles from the government over multiple days and there are plenty of outlets to ask for answers.
If you think we could honestly hold all 50 of our regions without setting up these agreements, you are also willfully ignorant.
Really? Point me to these articles. More importantly, point them out to the hundreds of people who clearly haven't seen them. As for holding the regions, it's a question of how many to give up.
First announced that it was being voted on: https://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-doe-factory-relocation-extravaganza--2725957/1/20
Article that was in top articles when it was published, and shouted numerous times: https://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-vp-holdings-relocation-program-3-where-is-the-neodynium-yui--2726067/1/20
Point me to the evidence that 'hundreds of people clearly haven't seen them'.
As for the 'how many', that's the only intelligent argument you can make here. Why not expound upon your plan for that with evidence and reasoning instead of what you wrote in this article...
Please include these links in the article.
As I have repeatedly pointed out, PEOPLE DO NOT READ THOSE ARTICLES. Certainly not the kind of people inclined to get caught up in this. A drastic change like this required a more sophisticated outreach, and it wasn't there. How many? Do a count. In Colorado alone there are at least 20 people. Florida? Texas? New York? As for how many regions we could hold, we held plenty of these states before. The logic there seems pretty clear -- what changed that forced us to suddenly give up so many? Because I asked this months ago, and was told it wasn't about safety, but gold -- and as I made clear, we aren't benefiting from the gold. But other countries are.
If anyone doesn't either read the national shout feed, check top articles, or use other meta forums to get information, then my original point stands; they are willfully ignorant. No government can force anyone to engage with them or the game more than each person is willing to do themselves.
Counting current residents in no way reflects who has or hasn't "seen" any of this communication. Look at yourself, you know there's a relocation program, you're still there.
What we held before has no bearing on current geopolitics. Alliances have changed, animosity is rampant, and active players dwindle continuously.
Whether they are "willfully ignorant" or not doesn't matter. They paid taxes. They worked. They ran companies. And now they don't. This is a perfect example of the "f$ck off" attitude that exacerbates the dwindling population you claim to care about. I've already said it wasn't about "geopolitics," an so did the government itself. It was about the gold -- period. And the gold isn't doing us anywhere near as much good as the lost production. Not to mention the population.
It doesn't matter? Really? The government literally has a program to get them producing again, and them not caring enough to take free money is your whole argument to continue screaming REEEEEE DEEP STATE PAKLEDS REEEEE. You are hopeless and are contributing nothing productive to the national conversation except lunatical screeching. Have fun shouting at the rain, George.
You aren't following the argument, either because you don't want to or can't. It doesn't matter why people will or will not move. Unless you can get them to move, giving up the regions was a bad decision: it net loses the country money economically. Not to mention, people will quit. But then, f$ck them (and their production, and taxes, and whatever damage they contributed) anyway. Because they're "willfully ignorant." They just don't count.
And, BTW to sum up: you literally never made an argument that wasn't dealt with in my original article. Not one. You contributed absolutely nothing of value -- unlike the "willfully ignorant" people you discount. I did enjoy your tantrum at the end, though.

Brilliant article, Barker, but with one clarification - Florida is a "safe state" (for now). It's good to correct this so that you aren't be accused (which certain people will do) in inaccuracy.
Thank you for the correction. I thought I'd seen Florida occupied a few times -- I might be mistaken about that.
From our "executives", which instead of thinking about eUS people, runs bot farms other than confusion and chaos can't be expected, pal. Right now, Kentucky is under Serbian attack ... you may be dying to laugh with our government lately.

Frankly, I don't even intend to bother myself with economic calculations, but I do agree that the amount of TWs currently taking place is way too big.
We don't have enough people to cover RHs, not enough people to cover BHs, might be that we have enough to keep SHs and CHs eAmerican.
But then with the number of countries taking hospitality inside US borders and with abroad operations we occasionally get benched because nation 'A' screwed bad, nation 'C' need to take land swaps with a nation 'D', nation 'Z' didn't like the idea of someone on the RH list getting a medal, so they decided to defend despite agreements and nation 'V' forget that they are supposed to win some battles, and hey eUS is paying for fighting for them.
It's like throwing a Molotov cocktail into a brothel.

This article is a fine example of the dumb that plagues this game. Thank you for illustrating it.
There's a difference between pointing out "the dumb" and illustrating it, "krapis." I suggest you take time out from running your multis and look up that difference.
