This Week in Congress: v2, Tax Policy, and Quorum

Day 967, 20:02 Published in USA USA by eUSA Congress

This week, we have been working hard to keep this country going even as v2 was released and everything changed.

Our Reaction to v2
Although you may not see everything behind the scenes, we are hard at work being sure that all of our various government agencies have changed appropriately in response to the v2 release just a bit over one week ago. We’ve already changed our immigration department from two separate departments that don’t work together to one big department: Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which will streamline our citizenship process, allowing those who deserve citizenship to get it faster. We’re also discussing updating the wiki for v2, as most of the information is horribly out of date on there.

The Budget and Taxes
Since the current budget is going to expire soon, Congress is deciding what to do with the new budget (what funds need to go where). We’re reanalyzing our needs at every budget line for v2 and we’re adjusting each department’s budget accordingly.
Along with this discussion, we are also discussing what to do with taxes with the shift in economy that has occurred in v2.
For those curious about what taxes do, check out Dr. Tango’s article on taxes: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/how-your-taxes-are-spent-1452731/1/20

The Quorum Debates
We have also been debating another important issue over this past week: quorum. Quorum, for those who don’t know, is the amount of votes needed to take action on a bill. Currently quorum is set at 50% of the people who sign in every week. There have been proposals to change this and proposals to do away with quorum all this week, but it’s looking like quorum is staying the way it is.
