Dear Friends,

First of all let me assert that I’m not going to repeat myself by reporting everything that I’ve done this week. All of my daily reports for the week are available here, the announcements subforum of the national forums. I suggest that you all join, and if you want you can subscribe to that forum and get email notifications when I post my report each day.

Secondly let me tell you how happy I am with the patience and forbearing of the British. I know it’s a cliché, but we’ve basically been tormented by sudden changes in formulas, random migrations, no preparation of the job market and a whole host of other problems. Yet the only complaints I’ve had personally have been polite and considered. Let me just reiterate that none of this is within the power of the government to resolve. If you have a problem with the game itself, please contact the admins through the proper methods (go to your profile and message the admin, should be your first friend).

A few people have been complaining about the lack of war. This is due to the admins, who have suspended the war module temporarily whilst people get used to the new economy module, and they make a few last minute tweaks. It will be back online shortly.

The job market has been another source of complaints. The Ministry of Work is now V2-ready and is running minimum wage jobs for young citizens 24/7. However the responsibility for providing jobs does lie with private citizens. The government supports them, but the cost of providing a thousand jobs is beyond the government’s very limited finances. All I can do is encourage business owners to issue jobs with a fair wage, and not to exploit the situation. Happy workers are more likely to stay with you, and apart from the fact it’s pretty immoral to exploit workers in the long run giving fair wages will ultimately speed the recovery of the job market, meaning it’ll be easier for you to get decent workers in the future.

Another issue which is brought up a lot is how to manage your time. I know that this is something I am yet to perfect personally- I usually forget something. There are a couple of tools which might be some use. This tool by Kumnaa is a good one for those of you who want to work out how to finish up near to 100 online. This article has a good downloadable tool (basically an excel spreadsheet) which does the same. I use the excel spreadsheet, but whichever you use it’s a good help. Logically, since you need money, and working also increases skill, something like 8 work, 4 train, 2 study and 10 rest would be best for most people. The cost of food is very high at the minute- but wages will hopefully catch up once there is more confidence in the markets. Housing should also come down in price since formula changes have made them profitable again.

For those of you wondering what or politicians are up to, you should check out public discussion, which is where proposed changes go so you can have your say on them. I know the forums probably seem like a pain in the butt to register for, but it’s worth it, and if you don’t then stuff happens without your consent. To paraphrase Plato: “if you’re not prepared to engage in politics, be prepared to be governed by idiots”. Get involved!

Finally, a little update on my manifesto promises:

More committees to deal with V2: Three main committees have been established, recruited members and our now engaging in research into the changes brought about by V2. For the first time the government will be releasing in depth, researched papers on the game.
More departments to respond to specific issues: At least four new departments have been opened since I was elected, and have recruited members. The government now has an official calling point for design and tech work. It also has a department of languages and an alliance media division intent on communicating with allied citizens in a friendly way.
More companies to match demand: This is an ongoing thing, but five decommissioned iron companies have been reopened this week alone, along with two constructions companies. The goal is to supply raw materials to the army at cost.
Re-open the Ministry of Trade: I promised this in my manifesto, and I have done it. I however renamed this the Market Analysis Committee. I feel that the traditional role of the MoT is to monitor markets, and that V2 requires a much more proactive role.
Accurately predict demand in V2: I did my best to predict what our workforce would need to be in V2. I think that the current demand for harvesters, and unemployment amongst many who chose to be an engineer or so on has shown my predictions to be correct. Now we have to try and correct this imbalance by growing undermanned sectors.

Thank you for reading, and remember more up-to-date and interesting announcements can be found on the forums, heart of the UK. If you have any questions, come find me on irc.rizon.net/eUK.

Edit: I almost forgot. Jennifer MacCleod is leaving after a long and distinguished career in the UK armed forces. She was one of our great players, and though I personally am not going to cheapen things by pretending to know her when we only met recently, by all accounts she was a great person and the UK will miss her. Best of luck Jen. RL>erep.
