Serbian Toast

Day 2,117, 02:05 Published in Switzerland Cyprus by Louise de Vivepierre

Good morning/afternoon/evening depending on the country you live.

Since our national News page is definitely not full of articles, today I’d like to propose you an article written a few days ago by a friend (and also very experienced player) about the current situation in the old-country.
The author of this article is Feliks Edmundovic, 7 times MoFA and 1 time CP in eItaly.
In eItalian community he’s quite famous for his analysis of international facts.

Now I leave you to the article hoping you will find interesting and useful, as I did.

Act I

I don’t remember the last time I saw a similar situation on the World Map: months, maybe years ago.
At those days we were fighting hard to free our peninsula (Italy, translator’s note), we used to coordinate with our allies to try getting invaders out of our country.
Today’s situation is similar, but it’s not the same of the previous one. That’s because there will be no liberation with such Alliances; anyway, these wars we are fighting are intended for that purpose.

This is the second time, in a few weeks, that Serbia is chased away in its original regions and today (eDay 2115, translator’s note) Serbs are reporting even heavier losses.
The first attack, planned by Croatia and USA (Serbia’s historical enemies) was a test, an apparently practicable operation at strategists’ eyes but not so popular among troops: try to directly attack the greatest power in the eWorld, leader of the most powerful Alliance, ruling all over Europe, and not only.

This first attack was based on an hypothesis, later confirme😛 although their immense military power, Serbian International Affaires are their weak spot.
It surely was a gamble: if directly attacked, Serbia wouldn’t be able to gather its allies’ help, also because of Serbian home affairs, mainly based on nationalism and pride, awarding those politicians who are able to provide immediate benefits for Serbian people.
The plan worked fine: despite of its allies’ promises, relatively few soldiers focused their efforts on defending Serbia, so Belgrade had to withdraw.

Interlude

This first assault had two consequences: TWO gained up on other frontlines, that because they still hold the majority of world influence, so if not fighting in Serbia, they obviously focused their attention to other areas.
On the other side, it strengthened TWO’s internal mistrust, already arisen one month ago by Serb-Slovenian crusades against Spain, and the resulting threat of Imperium.
During TWO’s counter offensive, actually, USA launched a second strike against Hungary: instead of helping its ally, Serbia decides to conquer back its bonus path up to France.

Serbia made the fool of herself: it is clear the most important thing is 100/100 resource bonuses, even more important than helping one of the strongest and firmest allies, that ally who stopped Imperium project. Serbia simply ignored and let Hungary being smashed by USA and Russia, losing the imperium they built so hardly.

Act II

We finally get to these days’ operation, which is the encore of the previous one, with largest forces and lightly different aims.
Once clear the attack was possible and could heavily affect foreign politics, opposition is faint: people fight harder and even Republic of Macedonia joins the fight.
This one definitely breaks the residual and week bonds with Serbia, starting a NE against the historical ally (even if in both communities there are still fringes who harbor respect for their old ally).
This is a diversion to make TWO focus on the most considerable threat and give Skopje enough time to successfully launch an Airstrike in New Zealand (a country with a remarkable Serbian presence); anyway this affects the intercourse between the two countries, leaving Serbia more and more isolated.

The second assault doesn’t only break Serbian path for bonus, but also kick them out of American territories, highlighting once more Serbia’s isolation.

The most interesting thing, actually, is the attack against Slovenia.
Serbian dominance in TWO is based on a shaky agreement with Poland that survives because of two reasons: the confidence accorded by Hungary (physically in the middle of Poland and Serbia), who is interested in having its sides protected by good allies, and diplomacy.
Since diplomacy isn’t properly Serbian strength, this field is supported by Slovenia, who can count on an experienced and better organized diplomacy.

While Act I was intended to weaken bonds between Hungary and Serbia, it is interesting to watch what will be TWO’s reaction towards Slovenia.

I personally exclude a weakening of the bonds between these two countries, but should Slovenia be defeated it would be a blow for their credibility, after proclaiming to be “TWO’s Savior” and proposing itself as leader of the Alliance.
On the other side, should Slovenia ward off all the attacks, old dislikes toward Ljubljana could be invigorated , dislikes which are not so rare, since they tried to influence the alliance to interfere in a member’s home and international Affairs.

Time will tell

Feliks

I hope you all enjoyed this and I’m sorry if the translation isn’t properly exquisite (today I wasn’t really inspired in translating, but I already planned publishing this, so the result isn’t the best one).
Should you have any comment or food for thought, please feel free to post it, so I could also ask the author to answer them and discuss in first person.

EDIT: I was asked by a Macedonian player to remove "FYROM" caption. I'm sorry if it was offensive for someone, but this is a matter that many eRep citizens can't understand (even if we know for you is a great problem), so it wasn't done on purpose.
Anyway I'm gonna use the official name so I changed it in "Republic of Macedonia". If this shouldn't be exaustive, I'm sorry, but there will always be someone (greek or macedonian) complaining for the used word, but this article isn't supposed to be a place to discuss if "Macedonia is Macedonia"/"Macedonia is Greece"/"Macedonia is FYROM" or whatever.
