Running for Congress - Reclaiming Maryland

Day 509, 12:23 Published in USA USA by John Wycliffe

Citizens of Maryland,
After my absence, I have returned to ask for your vote in the April 2009 Congressional Elections. I come as a: 3-term former congressman, USWP Party Platform Government Affairs Committee Chair, 2nd Lieutenant of the 2nd Platoon of the 2nd Army, and USWP PAC volunteer. I have the experience to retrieve this seat I formerly held, so I wish to put forth my platform to earn your vote this April.

ISSUES

The First eUSA Budget
The description of the budget has been put forth by Gilroy here: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/the-first-eusa-budget-775322/1/20 and I whole-heartedly approve of the measures that those involved in the process plan to implement with this budget. I believe it supplies adequate funding for both domestic spending (i.e. Hospitals and Defense Systems) but also for our armed forces. Formerly, I was of the stance that our military did not need pay or weapons, and I still stand with the opinion that we don’t need pay, but with war games every week, I am forced to say that with constant fighting it is probably a better idea to fund weapons with the expansive and frequent an operation.

House of Lords Proposal
Justinious recently brought forth the proposal for the addition of a House of Lords-type branch of Congress which would be comprised of “Military Generals who need to travel a lot,” “Former Congresspeople who are too valuable to lose if not elected,” and “Resident Experts in their respected field who will benefit congressional discussion.” While in concept this seems like a great idea, I don’t think our government is in a current position to be able to do this and do it well. I agree with Publius that “the current government structure [is] unwieldy” and I don’t think we could keep this up. Things get too complicated without the game mechanics involved. I think a better system would be to allow Party Presidents to assemble a committee of these type of citizens into groups within their parties and allow them to advise that Party’s Congressmen. This isn’t a home run either, but I don’t think people voted out of office should be allowed to vote or have a policy say. This type of post, it seems to me, is like establishing a very large cabinet-type body which would be, once again, in my opinion, ungainly and unnecessary. Though I very much respect Justinious for his recent work, I can’t say I agree with this.

The Monetary Market
Congress has been doing work with adjusting the value of the USD, and it is currently at an exchange rate of 0.023, which I see as a bit high, but reasonable. Like others, I would like it lower, but OneEye has done a superb job so far as CBO accountant, and I trust his logic and his numbers as they are. I believe Bill Bransky said it pretty well when he explain that we “should be slow, cautious, transparent, and reserved” when manipulating the monetary market, but sometimes, I think, we tend to act rreeaallllyy slow, but better late than never, I guess.

Congressional Transparency
A citizen by the name of Bastion recently brought up in the House that Congress has been less transparent as of late, and that bothers me. I agree that all legislation and discussion that does not pertain to national security issues, or other things that cannot be known for the sake of operations, should be placed in the public forum for everyone who is interested to see. As of right now, no committee boards can be seen. I think posting permissions for non-congressmen can be removed, but at least let everyone see them.

“War” with Mexico
President Scrabman has done a good job with the war games in Baja and I know that even I personally have found them helpful, and I hope all US citizens have, as well. I would be in favor of these continuing so long as they prove of use for training the population and building up our nation strength.

If you have any questions about any specific other issues, post a question below, and I’ll edit the article with your question and my answer, provided that it is a legitimate question. I'll be putting myself up for the running under the USWP as soon as possible.

Thank you for your time, and I would love to have your vote on the 25th.
