Random Review(s): Flash Websites- #1

Day 1,264, 21:30 Published in USA USA by Guy3000

Hello citizens of eRepublik,

Before I start in the following article, I want to make a few disclaimers.

DISCLAIMERS:

-1, The following article has nothing to do with eRepublik (besides that it too is unproductive) and was solely created for enjoyment.

-2, Any waste of time associated with the following information is not to be held responsible on «Guy3000», thanks for your cooperation.

-3, I am a nerd.

This newspaper (albeit articles will rarely be posted) is dedicated to making reviews about… stuff with different criteria (in this case, “amount of games”, “appearance/interface”, “average game quality”, and “overall”). First up, are Flash gaming websites (ordered from worst to best imo).

1- Addicting Games

Amount of games 9/10: Addicting Games has a vast repertoire of games (full list: http://www.addictinggames.com/archives.html), but lacks the amateur developer’s games (for better or worse).

Appearance/interface 5/10: UGLY and untidy, can sometimes be nearly impossible to find games relative to other sites because of the sheer quantity of categories, although good for finding random interesting games.

Average game quality 7/10: Seemingly only semi-experienced developers’ games are accepted and posted (none of the games I can see are amateur-made). That being said, there are some considerably crappy games after you move from the front few pages.

Overall 7/10: Nothing special or noteworthy of this site, I recommend gaming on other sites unless you want to wander randomly in a sea of mediocre to great games and hope you find the nettle in the haystack.

2- Armor Games

Amount of games 7.5/10: As with most major flash game sites there are a lot of games, about average or slightly above.

Appearance/interface 9/10: An interesting point system for rating games and posting on the forums, clean look for the most part.

Average game quality 8/10: Home of one of my favorite game developers, Louissi (creator of Age of War 1 and 2), there are Armor Games special games that make this site worth coming to (thanks to a good payment system for developers).

Overall ~8.2/10: Good, fun, organized website that, relative to Addicting Games is a heaven.

3- Nitrome

Amount of games 6/10: Sacrificed quality for quantity, probably for the better.

Appearance/interface 8/10: Good appearance, organization leaves something to be desired.

Average game quality 9.5/10: No half-hearted developers here, most of them work full-time for the website and no other games are added as a result, you’ve got consistently epic games.

Overall ~7.8/10: Excellent games, medium quantity, well presented.

4- Kongregate (to make an account)

Amount of games 9/10: Absurd amount of games (42 000 and counting) yet, and I don’t blame the website for this, certain games are released on specific sites only to promote that website and come on Kongregate after the contract with the developer is over.

Appearance/interface 9/10: Good organization, excellent point system that works when rating, earning badges (achievements in-game), referrals, and creating games.

Average game quality 8/10: This is a major flop of the otherwise godly website, the average game quality is super low, there are, like in any major flash game website, excellent games but 99% of the 42 000 games are unplayable (most are kept from the public eye so don’t worry).

Overall ~8.7/10: Superb amount of low-quality games coupled with a large amount of great games and everything in between, incentive to play thanks to the point system.

I know I exempted many sites (Newgrounds, Max Games, etc.) but most of them are more of the same, sorry.

Bottom line: I’m byist towards Kongregate as it is the only site I play on seriously but quite frankly, from what I gathered, it’s overall the best. That being said, each seleceted website has its strong point(s)(i.e. Nitrome = quality, Armor Games, Kongregate = interface, Kongregate, Addicting Games = quantity).
Well I’m too tired to write anything else, I hope you’ve enjoyed episode 1 of “Random Reviews”, please comment with suggestions of any sort.
