President Evil - The Best Laid Schemes of Mice and Men
Blue And Evil
Today’s Song - Marillion - He knows, you know
Since taking the office of President last week, I’ve had problems, and I’ve made mistakes. I don’t want to sweep these under the carpet and ignore them. When I’ve made mistakes, I hold my hands up, recognise where I’ve done wrong, and set about fixing them. That is the kind of person I am. I’m writing today to do exactly that, and explain my reasoning behind my decisions.
But before that: Are you a new player? Not been in the game too long, under level 29, and perhaps looking for a bit of support whilst you find your feet? Look no further than the NHS! Every UK citizen can claim 500 energy worth of food FREE every day. You can also be put in touch with an experienced player who can answer any questions you may have. Signing up is easy, you simply need to add your name and profile link to the sign up sheet here: http://tinyurl.com/NHS-eUK
The Training War with Ireland
When I set about organising a Training War with Ireland, I did it because the UK rarely sees direct combat, and almost never in a meaningful way. As President, and as Minister of Defence before that, I have overseen the UK supporting our allies in a number of conflicts, with TWO winning on every front, a point proven by the fact every other country in TWO has been able to expand into and occupy their neighbours. I’ve seen this success, and I’ve lamented at the fact the UK hasn’t been able to have the same.
The TW was intended as a stopgap. Something to satisfy those in our country who wanted combat. One could even argue these people are the majority in our country, since at the beginning of my term, the majority of Congress members voted to declare war against France, despite the fact the previous President had signed a Non-Aggression Pact with France. Whilst I’m thankful that this proposal did not pass, since war with France is not something I want, it did send me a clear message - the fighters of the UK want something to do.
When I started the plans for a TW, there was opposition to it - mostly because no matter how well I could communicate with the Commanders of our country’s Military Units, a TW would detract from our support for Poland. People voiced their opposition. My own Minister of Foreign Affairs told me he thought it was a bad idea. The Deputy Secretary General of TWO, himself one of the most decorated and respected Presidents in the UK’s history, said he didn’t like the plan. I weighed up the pros and cons, and decided that whilst it was true that it would detract from our support for Poland, it was an acceptable cost, so the TW began.
It would have been easy to avoid impacting on the Poland/Russia battle with our TW. We could make sure the TW only happened when the Polish battle wasn’t happening, and I had talked with Sir Marvin and MUFC992, Presidents of Poland and Ireland respectively, about the best times to launch attack in order to minimise disruption.
And then EDEN launched a massive attack against Serbia.
Overnight, what was an acceptable and minor distraction to one of our allies became a major distraction to many of our allies, since now, the damage of our fighters is needed in preventing Croatia and their vassals from returning to Europe, as well as making sure the Polish invasion of Russia does not stall. In light of this new front, it became painfully apparent to me that the Training War with Ireland is a luxury we could not afford at this time. As such, I have met with MUFC992, and we have agreed to end to the TW as soon as possible, however, should we find ourselves in a quieter international scene in the near future, we will restart the TW, since the reasons for starting it in the first place are still valid.
But enough of the doom and gloom, what about the good news?
Food Drive for Venezuelan Babies
Our friends and allies, Venezuela, have undergone a bit of a babyboom in recent weeks, doubling their population from 3000 to 6000. Kravenn, perennial helpful person : and user of colons : has organised a food drive to help feed their babies, as he has done for Chile and other countries in the past. If you want to contribute to this great cause, check out Kravenn’s article, and send your food donations to him!
The UK Library Project
Last term, Jimbobfrey worked hard to recreate the UK Library Project, a one-stop central location for all guides and information a new player could possibly want. I kept him on in the capacity to keep maintaining this, since a lack of continuity can kill projects like these stone dead. He has recently updated the website for this, which can be found here: http://www.euklibrary.co.uk
If you haven’t done so already, give it a read, you might just learn a thing or two.

Plus what MUFC said x2
It's very brave to admit mistakes. I'd say that perfection is just the sequence of mending oneself's imperfections. It's not easy.
Better than just sayin you were drunk LOL
Oh, Talon...
The TW was not a mistake, but a blessing

Kravenn: someone who uses commas? No: he uses colons: typo?
oops!
Lol, great job, keep it up!
No mistake was made about the eIreland decision... Situations change and expectations (from a whole range of different factors) where not met.
Great decision making so far given the tools youve been given/left with!
