NewsNight 2.0 #2
Veruvia
In a second special edition of NewsNight 2.0, we look at a recent article released by the President of the United States, Glove, suggesting that the United States could go to war with the United Kingdom should the public decide it. Could the United Kingdom withstand such an attack? Would our allies come to our aid? We ask these questions and more in this next edition.
United States versus United Kingdom
There can be no doubt that the United States has, for a long time, been a considerable foe of the United Kingdom but it has remained quiet on the shores of the British Isles. Soon, that could all change. In this article by the President of the United States, we are described as "Redcoats" and we seem to be the preferential option of the POTUS for attack. Public opinion, however, seems to differ as much of the comments focus on their larger prey including Indonesia and their former allies, Canada. The question now is whether the Foreign Affairs Ministry takes this threat and begins to prepare for any eventuality. Irregardless of the outcome, we must be ever wary of this formidable opponent. The will of the public is a mighty weapon to wield in a nation with such a strong population.
Canada, Oh Canada
Another international story that focuses on the United States, this time on their relationship with Canada. The White House Press Room released an article indicating that the POTUS is looking for a peace treaty with Canada in order to restore their bro-lliance. A report from the Croatian Foreign Office gives a more disparate picture of the relationship between these two North American nations and suggests that the conflict between the two is harming proTEDEN forces. With the Croatian Foreign Office suggesting that the eUSA is moving to a pro-CTRL position, the coming weeks may be a turbulent time for the eUS as many eUS citizens oppose an alliance with Canada.
Reforming the Military
It comes as no surprise to us that BigAnt, the British Country President, has made his first act in attempting reform the military. What seems like a de facto action of all presidents as they attempt to make their mark on the nation, BigAnt is introducing changes which he outlines here. There is still a prevailing opinion among party leaders that party-affiliated military units are the way forward and that the British military is hemorrhaging money, failing to attract sufficient numbers, keep interest or use influence effectively. Jimbojoy reminded me that Thomas765 abolished the military when party-affiliated military units appeared to be the more attractive choice but that decision was subsequently reversed and it seems we're back to the status quo.
Reader Responses
Some fantastic comments from a wide variety of people with Jimbojoy mentioning the dissolution of the military under Thomas765, Orinocco suggesting that BigAnt's cabinet is an attempt to stave off attempts at impeachment through a lack of experience and Niemand backing up that claim by suggesting the large number of votes Count Drakula received was a warning sign. Interestingly, BigAnt felt the need to response but, in my opinion, it's too early to gauge how he will perform. Let's give it a week and see where we're at.

yes, first ^.^
" There is still a prevailing opinion among party leaders "
And this makes it the correct view? The majority is always right??
Party affiliated military is probably the main reason that there is a disconnect between whoever is CP and the military. Of course party leaders will say party affiliated armies are superior, it gives some of them more real power than they will ever get in any election.
The power that lies in party affiliated armies is consistency. The same leadership can be there month after month which allows for long term planning and investment, leading to better supplies, communication and activity.
It is no surprise things feel disjointed in national MU's when there's a constant influx and exodus of various helpers and members of government.
Voted!
In TUP Family we support our members to join the national army. This is backed up by the party, so at least TUP supports the national army.
About BigAnt: I have said that it was partly a warning sign, but more that it was good to have CD on a second place when an impeachment (whatever the reason) should be needed. There is no need of an impeachment now. I do hope there will be never needed an impeachment in BigAnt's rule and I wish him (and with that the UK) all the luck he needs.
"In TUP Family we support our members to join the national army. This is backed up by the party, so at least TUP supports the national army."
Does this mean the TUP Family MU is to become part of the BEF?
UKPP was a strong supporter of a National Army, but thats not to say UKPP members will readily join such an MU. The Private (Party) MU's do the nation a great service. As mentioned above the stability of these MU's greatly exceeds that of our national one.
"UKPP was a strong supporter of a National Army,"
Was? You no longer support the National Army??
You comment reinforces my point about private party armies
I'd be surprised if the USA could be bothered wiping us and suspect they'll look for more challenging opponents.
damned Yank using "Redcoats" as a derogatory term .. the "American Revolution" was illegal, and funded by the French, but will they admit that?
I for one am proud of the term: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_coat_(British_army)
"UKPP was a strong supporter of a National Army,"
Was? You no longer support the National Army??
'Was' as in before the BEF was introduced. For a few months we had no NA, in that time the UKPP WAS a strong supporter of bringing it back. If you had been around or even took notice of recent events you would see that the UKPP supports ONE NATIONAL ARMY for ALL to join REGARDLESS of divisions, strength or anything else that can be used to separate our players..
WayneKerr thank you for the clarification.
So when do you leave the Navy to join the BEF?
We'll see the results of the poll soon enough, though if the comments are anything to go by it's either Canada again or Indonesia.
Sexagenarian: Never, i'm more then happy within the RN. We rock, the community is everything I need, I have more efriends within that unit then anywhere else. If the RN was to collapse I would probably leave the eUK rather then join a different one.
Just because I'm not a member of our NA, doesn't mean I can't see the benefits of having a non-political affiliated MU that anyone can join.
Oh and I can't speak for any other party but the UKPP president has very little say over the RN nowadays. It's more a case that the UKPP is the political arm of the RN, rather then the RN being the military arm of the UKPP!
