Neutering The Tax Advantage

Day 2,189, 09:38 Published in Canada Canada by Acacia Mason

Iain Keers, in his most recent article, breaks down the impact of the new Imperial tax that Plato introduced into the game recently. If you have not already done so, take the time to read it…it's one of the better articles I have read in some time on game changes.

The question for me, and for eCanadians is, how does this impact us?

If the government is not already doing so, they should be putting some thoughtful analysis into this situation. Our current NAP does not address the issue of taxes, and why would it? It was never an issue until now. The thing though is, on the 6th, the NAP will be up for renewal, and any country who has their foot on the throat of their opponent would be wise to negotiate some sort of taxation clause into a current NAP, to take full advantage of the new changes.

Alternatively, this government should be seeking to maximize revenue opportunities while they hold the majority of regions. There is a huge opportunity to pad the war chest and leverage income. When Spain comes calling for OUR regions, we should be immediately moving to lower taxes to as low a level as game mechanics allow. It is bad enough that our regions may end up in the hands of occupying nations, but I would be damned if eCanada should also be helping to drive up the income of the oppressors. Its bad enough that the Bully takes our lunch…why on earth would we allow them to take our allowance too!

eCanadas greatest Hero and Patriot, Rolo Tahmasee has already begun to take up a collection of donations on behalf of the MDP. Who would have thought that this foresight would have been so critical. If we are to punish Spain at all, the only way we can do so is by making occupation of our regions, a poor financial gain. Should we be occupied fully again, or worse, we lose Congress, the decentralization of our finances to private citizens may very well become our greatest asset. Much the way that the MDP and Rolo have taken up said collection. Private donations may become the life blood of survival. The Nation that grasps this concept and prepares for it the fastest, may well be the Nation that lasts the longest.

Like most things, the key to overcoming any incentive or advantage, is to find a way to neuter the advantage. In this case, killing taxes before occupation, may well be the best way to accomplish this.

Caution should be taken here however. As I mentioned earlier, it is likely that future NAP agreements may very well come with strings attached around taxation. Not only would the occupying Nation gain a greater financial advantage, but high taxes also tend to force players out of a country, thus weakening it further, and those who remain are taxed so heavily that survival becomes difficult at best. The Oinyo government MUST start preparing for these contingencies NOW.

In the meantime, collections should be started and I would encourage ALL eCanadians to donate to the Resistance Fund headed up by Rolo Tahmasee. In times such as these, it is critical that parties and citizens start preparing. Thankfully, in eCanada we have the MDP. If not for their great intelligence and foresight, the days ahead may very well have been darker. Perhaps our other parties may soon catch on and start following in the impressive pioneering footsteps of the greatest party in eCanada.

Hail eCanada
Hail MDP
Hail Resistance Fund
