Food tax and Happy New Year
Leojane Zhu
I'll propose a law on food tax change.
VAT 5% --- same as before
import tax 10% --- raised, from 5% to 10%
income tax 10% --- same as before
I think we have already talked enough about this issue.

Why would you raise Import Taxes for a country with barely any food on the market, most of which is overpriced anyway?
@Kaigefoh
Well, first I thought this action would limit our choice of food. You can see this here : http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/congressional-seat1-1617018/1/20
But then the discussion of this issue raised again. Congress members who are active enough took part in the discussion. Many of them agreed that we have enough food companies, and the low import tax may do harm. Then I step back. I think it worth a try. Anyway, a higher import tax won't hurt the country. You can refer to these:

I think these may explain my proposal.
In my eyes, the congress this month seems much more active than before. Maybe you should pay more attention to recent newspaper and discussion. : )
If it the tax starts to hurt us, we can simply reduce it with another vote. But, i don't think that will happen.
@Kaigefoh
I have had the same feeling as yours and I disagreed this proposal on first sight,
but after I took a look in the surrounding,
Import tax: eSK: 20%; eChina: 35%; eROC: 99%; eJapan: 20%; eRusiia: 5%
Although our country is not as big as them and comparison in this way may be improper, I think we can give it a go first, or we can review it later if there is need.
The difference between us and those countries is how much much larger the food market is in those countries. In NK companies have little competition and the prices are already inflated. Guess what raising taxes won't raise income incomes for the countries: more tanks will buy their food abroad. The current situation of NK with so few food companies warrants to encourage more foreign companies to sell here to drive down the prices, not the opposite which is what this new tax does.
