In a minor turn of events, candidate Astra Kat G reached 121 votes in her "just for kicks" run for President of the eUnited States (ePOTUS). America's favorite redhead was quoted as saying, "That's p cool!"
Thanks, 121 people!
Despite having my Goals disappear for some mysterious reason, and little to no real campaigning done, I managed to get over 120 votes. I know that might not seem like a lot for a Country President race, but I'm happy with it. After all, it's third place. Thanks to Joe Newton and camh4 for providing stiff competition. And thanks to Cloyd Wallis, my unofficial campaign manager, for that shoutout on Wallis Media. Thanks to the very capable and ePOTUS-worthy himself Rheinlander von Phalz for agreeing to be my Vice President; I'd need all the help I could get if I actually got elected, hah.
Unrelated note, putting it here since it won't let me edit an earlier article: Here's an article from early on (Day 790) that had me as a possible POTUS. It's always nice to see.
And here's a little look at the future. Maybe not POTUS, but Empress Astra?

So, you may've been watching the election in eBelgium, a hotly contested one this past Election Day and one with great significance for both EDEN and Phoenix due to its strategic location in Europe.
President Olv007, first elected to office following Grinch's impeachment, secured re-election on Feb. 5th despite worthy competition from opponent shadowukcs.
Olv007 ended up with 634 votes (52.10
😵vs. shadowukcs's 529 votes (43.47
😵. USA was probably pushing the EDEN candidate shadowukcs, but I'm happy with the result, mostly because Olv007 isn't an obvious PTO and my eBelgian friend is happy. They seem to be promoting a neutral eBelgium, in any case, which is not a threat to EDEN.
That's just my opinion; this is still a volatile region and definitely one to watch. Here's the newly re-elected President's first statement.
Another important one you might not have been watching (I sure wasn't) was the election in eChina. I guess I just sort of assumed that after everything we'd been through together, eChina would elect a pro-EDEN candidate, but they went with this other guy instead. At least that explains why I'd been seeing "Samurai" all over the comments section of the eChinese newspapers I read!
For coverage of the eChinese election and other international elections, check out Myles Robinson's paper "News, Inc." here.
Here are some stats for the Top 10 most populous countries in eRepublik this past Election Day.
I realize recent conquests have affected these totals, somewhat, but it's just food for thought.
Rank___Country_____Total Pop.__Voting Pop.__Voting Percentage
1_______Poland______64982______10916____ ____16.80%
2_______Serbia______31572_______5896____ _____18.67%
3_______Spain_______30418_______4385____ ____14.42%
4_______USA________24829_______3197_____ ___12.88%
5_______Hungary_____24023_______3955____ ____16.46%
6_______Russia______19180_______2083____ ____10.86%
7_______Romania____15599_______3276_____ ____21.00%
8_______Croatia______14308_______2774___ _____19.39%
9_______Brazil_______12507_______1063___ _____8.50%
10______Bulgaria_____12361_______1436___ _____11.62%
Obviously, things aren't looking good for eUS participation totals. If we have so few people not going to all the trouble of going to the Community "Elections" tab to click once, how few people do we really have going to the seven-clicking trouble of fighting for our eNation? Makes you think. Last Presidential Election Day, we had 4068 votes in this country. I guess it's bad news when you get to a Presidential Election and the Top 10 country with the closest voting percentage to yours is Bulgaria.
And of course Hungary, which is about the same size as USA, has a much higher number of active voters -- even if you added every single vote cast for shadowukcs (though unlikely that USA alone sent over 500 votes), you can't match Hungary (who, face it, probably sent some votes to Belgium, too). Need I even shudder at the total for Serbia? Best keep Spain on our side.
Sorry to be all doom and gloom, but I have yet another concern with the behemoth that is Poland. Even with experienced Polish emigrants coming here and applying for USA citizenship (I work in Immigration so I see this sort of thing) due to poor living conditions in Poland, Poland's still got an active population of over 10,000. Polish candidates smrtan and Andrew6w6 alone got more votes than the entire voting population of the eUS (4837 and 4328 votes, respectively). That's insane. Poland may be more or less on EDEN's side for right now, but given past actions, I'd keep a close eye on them if I were you.
All we can really do is continue our efforts to increase player retention and newbie education in this country.
Please stay, newbies. eRep can be fun, I promise!

I miss the old Subscriptions button... Nobody's noticing this article and I have a whole and complete monopoly on "First!" ... which I intend to use with extreme prejudice.
FIRST!
😃
I'm proud to say I voted for olv007. It is unlikely I will be able to change my citizenship anytime soon so it looks like my votes shall be reserved for helping Belgium for quite a while. But had I had American citizenship I totally woulda voted for ya. The SFP totally has your back yo!
Great article, and I agree with the subscription button problems.
I miss it as well...
Wrt voting percentages, it might be worth noting that a number of USA citizens were participating in the Belgian elections (I'm not sure how many did), which would subtract from US voting percentages a bit. Especially if any USA citizens voted elsewhere as well.
I noticed the article. 🙂
Thanks, guys. 🙂
And yeah, Elronius, I realize we sent some active voters to Belgium but that amount that we sent still represents only one percent of our total population, if even that.
Voted for PiZ here. Didn't we send nearly 500 voters?
I come for the information, I stay for the redheads 😉
lol Joey Jackson. XD
To Syrup: shadowukcs had over 500 votes, but do you really think they all came from America? What about Poland, Croatia, Romania, etc.? One percent would be 248 votes and I'm pretty sure we sent at least 100, but not sure it got over 300.
Redhead FTW
That's p cool!
Most of the votes in Belgium came from the USA, Hungary, and other Phoenix / EDEN countries. Army soldiers were *ordered* to vote in Belgium.
The subscription button sucks - see my article a few days ago:

Actually, the sub button is okay, it's the missing green button that causes problems.
Thanks for the link-a-palooza!
Awesome article Astra!
I didn't even think to cover the international election news... 🙁
I voted for Astra! 😃
Zheng, yeah, that's what I meant, I miss the green Subscription Alert button. XD
Thanks, Bristel!! 😃
>I didn't even think to cover the international election news... 🙁
I guess that's why Myles and I get paid the big bucks of imaginary money. 😉
Astra!!! Congrats 🙂
Thanks, former President of Austria and fellow New Jerseyan Alfred Ball. 😉
Thanks for the trackback! 🙂
1. Who's your avatar pic?
2. Maybe if you ran on a platform to bring back the green subscription button you would have won! 😛
3. Voted 🙂 Great links for boons!
Yay Redhead! 😃
It might help voter participation if the candidates actually disagreed on the issues and offered the voters constrasting positions to choose from. As it stands, I came out for PiZ on pragmatic grounds quite early on, a full week before the election -so no wonder he lost. I do think Josh and Max waged a terrific campaign, a real media blitz, and that goes to show who had the deep pockets. None of the minor candidates offered a contrasting choice, so there was just nothing to merit a protest vote at all. I was aware of Joe Newton's candidacy, not at all of Astra Kat G's run until the morning of election day, when I pulled up the voting window. Seriously, though, political participation and retention (and probably also the economy will never get fixed in eUSA until its leaders stop pussyfooting around with each other and go for the jugular. They have got to get off this war craze and give people a reason - other than war - for playing this game. They need to come up with new ideas on their own, or at least stop stomping on anyone who brings up an idea they have already rejected. The whole eworld's watching.
Samuel Seabury
Nice job Astra
<3
Great Article! Nice coverage. informed me a ton. And it wasn't biased. (Belgium)
Hopefully Josh can turn things around.

Amen!, Rev. Seabury.
>or at least stop stomping on anyone who brings up an idea they have already rejected.
They're just tired of having the same exact discussion over and over again, with likely the same result each time. 😛 I've seen our leaders come up with new ideas periodically and I'd hardly call being civil with each other "pussyfooting around." Just cos they don't snipe at each other over little things doesn't mean they don't get stuff done.
Thanks, guys, and you're welcome, Myles! 🙂
To Hoyle:
1. My current one? Haven't a clue! The one for Election Day was Jesseka Nicole, but I'm sure you knew that by now, lol.
2. Haha, like I could've done that... Oh, that's right, unrealistic campaign promises always win over logic and reason! XD
3. Woot, thanks! 🙂
ONLY 3000 VOTES? OMFG!
Redhead? Chill out with the ginger talk. You guys don't have souls. Please put out the atrocity on top of your skulls 🙂.
I voted for you 😁
Yep, Calibur. :/
Thanks, JCFC!! 😁
Marcus Patterson, so I take it you don't like redheads, lol.
Yeah you're current one. 🙂
take care
YAY! Hurrah!
Astra, if I still had my eUS citizenship, I would've voted for you as well! 😃 You'd be a great leader!
Take care, Hoyle. 🙂
Manong, thanks for the intangible vote of confidence at least! Lol. XD
I subscribed if that makes you feel better Astra.
lolz, thanks, Murchadh. 😃
Oh redheaded girl your teasing me...you write what I want and I karaoke what you need...
Oh johnmalcom boy, let's get to the point, 'cause you're on a roll, and I suck at making up lyrics... 😛
Are you doing karaoke with us next time?
I dunno, you know how stage-frighty I got about saying that one little line, lol. Imagine that with a whole song. XD
