Does Having a Presentation Affect the Elections?

Day 582, 03:17 Published in Canada Canada by dabman

Many eCanadians have asked the question that is presented as this article's title: Does having a presentation affect the congressional elections? Most answers that are given when this is brought up is: "yes", "of course", and "make sure you have a presentation!!!" But these are only logical guesses whether a presentation actually affects your chance of winning an election.

In a bold move, I have volunteered myself in an experiment to quantify exactly how much the presence of a presentation affects voter turnout for specific candidates. I have *no* current presentation, and I will not have one during congressional elections. My past history of votes tends to be relatively stable, so we'll get a chance to see how significant this effect will be during the election.

What do I hope to do by testing this? Well, perhaps I am doing this experiment only to show how underdeveloped the election system is in eRepublik. More needs to be done to help characterize candidates, and this experiment will help show that simply having a link to a broken url can increase the number of votes a candidate receives (this control will likely be done next month).

And what would be my presentation, if I did link to one?

Dabman's Presentation

My name is Dabman, and I am running to be re-elected as congressman of British Columbia. As a 4-term member of Congress, one must ask why I should be justified to running again. The answer lies in the following three words: experience, participation, and trust.

Experience

In the time that I have been an active member of the government of eCanada, I have gained a lot of knowledge about how congress works, and how the different branches of government interact online in eRepublik. I have recently been elected as a Cabinet member - as Minister of Communications to be specific - and this has furthered my knowledge about current affairs and politics.

Participation

As a congressman, I have worked hard to get congress to pass legislation for the placement of a Q5 Defense System in BC. I am proud to know that I (as well as Manson Tai) have played key roles in working with congress to achieve this critical legislation that benefits British Columbia and ultimately Canada. Unfortunately, this legislation was passed in Closed Door Congress, but believe me when I say I argued long and hard to convince other congress members that the DS is most beneficial in BC.

In these past few months, I have participated tremendously in the game in general. As MoC, I have written long and detailed articles regarding actions by the executive and legislative branches of government (example below):

As a congressman, a recent statistical survey by Adasko has shown I am one of the top-participating congress members on the eCanada forum. Even when ignoring the survey, it is easy to see how much time and thinking I contribute to the body of Congress. I work hard to work out compromises and get legislation passed quickly and cooperatively

Activity Statistics (mentioned above)

As a congressman and citizen, I also work hard to keep track and update a map of eCanada, so that Congress and citizens of eCanada are informed about our country:

Trust

I hope every citizen of BC and eCanada knows and trusts me, whether they disagree with my courses of actions or not. I truly am doing what I believe is right for eCanada, and I have always striven to represent BC as best as I can. I am welcome to anybody wanting to message me, and encourage discussion when citizens choose to do so.

Experience, Participation, and Trust. These are the three words I will continue to practice in my next term as congressman, and if you agree with my actions and my message, than I would be honored if you vote for me as congressman of British Columbia. Thank you.
