Disrespect, Derision and Insult
This may seem to be a wall of text to some but I make no apologies due to the seriousness of the subject.
After seeing these MOD orders http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/mod-orders-day-2065--2291912/1/20 it has taken me a couple of days to calm down enough to write something that is a little more considered than the initial anger I felt.
We all know we get medals in this game and a few bars of gold for Battle Hero, Super Soldier, True Patriot, ... Its Plato's way of keeping us interested and feeling like we've achieved something. In reality these awards are insignificant compared to real life where men and woman face real danger and a meaningful risk of death for a piece of tin attached to a small ribbon.
The children in the MOD have now decided to insult the real sacrifice and bravery of these people by equating clicking a few buttons and/or toadying up to your MU Commander/CP by creating in-game equivalents of real life medals.
Will someone in the MOD please explain how this:-
“the CP may nominate one person when he leaves office to the VC in recognition of their sacrifice to the betterment of the eUK in military matters ”
equates to this:-
“... most conspicuous bravery, or some daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice, or extreme devotion to duty in the presence of the enemy.”
Naming the new MOD awards after real life medals where real people have died is as offensive to their memory as you can possibly be in this game, especially when you realise that our whole society is built on these sacrifices and we, each and every one of us, owe more than we can possibly repay.
The MOD wants to issue medals to people for “brown nosing” and if they do I have no objection but at least let them be honest and call it the “brown nosing” medal, the sycophancy award, or whatever. They should not try to make their awards look like the real life equivalents.
If the MOD continues in this derision, I urge anyone that has any say in awarding these to quietly drop the idea so they die a natural death. As for the rest I suggest you let your MU commanders and those in government know that you want no part in the discourtesy shown to those who have made real sacrifices.

You could say the same about anything in this game, it's role play based on real life, and so of course there are going to be parallels. Personally I think all the medals and titles and so on are total nonsense but not because anyone irl is going to be insulted. If I was a VC holder I wouldn't give a toss what some people playing an internet game called their medals- plenty of first person shooter war games give out medals too.
Ps. less glorification of soldiers if you please, it's more of an insult to them than the medals issue to constantly pretend that they're some sort of knight in shining armour and not what they actually are- professional killers.
I am so glad we have some well trained professional killers to look after our interests, many of them deserve real medals.
Don't get me wrong, most of my family is military. But let's not dress up what they do: go to foreign countries and kill in the name of Britain's political and financial interests.
I do agree with Sexagenarian, it's funny to play role of being CP , or being british(when you are spanish, and so on and so on... ) , but some comparisons may be outrageous and comparing 20 clicks to people who actually died in real life is not funny or even a bad joke. Any role game keeps or holds something of real life and it's not fully isolated from it ( as this game proves (ask serbians)), so there's not a closed border between RL-game, but it's a quite permisive border( like real UK border, let's say).
If you're ignoring what he says then why are you replying to his comment?
I agree with both of you!
Its just a game mate
So people can die in real life and belittling what they did is OK because its a game?
How is it belittling? Have you ranted on the Call of Duty forms too?
As I said, it's just a game. Just a little role playing I guess, nothing more than that.
the key is the supposed border RL-game is not hermetic, fully divisive. It has many pores ... you can't simply pretend this game runs in Mars.
As you said "Its Plato's way of keeping us interested and feeling like we've achieved something." This is the MoD's way of keeping us interested.
so call it the the MOD Derp medal not VC, DSO etc.

These aren't new, they just went dormant after v2. Reviving them is good, in my opinion, and I suggested it to Woldy during his last CP term. Recognizing people for their service is important, and encouraging.
So why try to equate them with real life medals? Call them the CP medal or MOD/MU medal at least that's honest
Why do we have Presidents and Congressmen and all that crap? It's a vernacular people understand. Nobody has ever tried to equate these to lifesaving medals, but by giving them familiar names, you eliminate the need to constantly explain what they are to every third person who pops up.
It really isn't that difficult, and (at least to me) this is just you finding another thing to complain about...because you like complaining.
huh, it would be better to reward people by making them Duke of Milton Keynes or whatever.
What a load of old tosh
Every single load of ...
I think if people who've spent proper cash on this game to do insane amounts of damage get Victoria Crosses, then yes, that is especially tacky. There is no element of bravery in doing that.
ha, we agree
I think the phrase is 'political correctness gone mad'.
Billions of people in the world possess/die for/die from food, maybe we should get mad that it's in eRepublik and abolish that too right?
hmmm , this article is not very political correct, either in terms of erepublik or real life.
That is hardly a comparable example - most people will want everybody to be well provided for in terms of food, whereas here, there is an argument that a reward for exceptional bravery should not be tarnished by something as base as a game.
Fighting in 'nam must have been tough, Sexagenarian.
Okay, I've only just seen this article and I'm sorry for not replying sooner. If you have any problems with the new honours system I would love some feedback, as you have in this article. I am always look to make the Ministry as good as it possibly can be for the people. If you truly believe what you have written and the public agree then I will look to change the honours. However I don't see I need to change because of one persons views.
