From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli

Same great newspaper, but a new home and a new name.

Dateline: Wednesday July 20, 2011 (Day 1,337)
Location: MCRD, San Diego
Reporter: USMC Recruit Private George Armstrong "Old Man" Custer

Another career change for me-- of course still within the JSC Military family, but now I am extremely proud to be called a USMarine!

I wish to thank the USAirborne, my Commander General Cyber Witch and XO Lieutenant General ChubbZilla, for your kindness and patience with me. I value my experience with the Airborne as I do the friendships I have made while serving with you. Thank you all very much. o7, USAirborne!

With this comes another change in the name of my newspaper.
Halls of Montezuma comes from the first line of the Marine Corps Hymn, and instantly brings to mind the United States Marine Corps.
The format remains the same, the content as well-- Challenge Coins, Movie Nights, tl;dr Educational pieces, and an occasional "one-pic wonder" Recruitment piece.
As I replace retiring Lieutenant SVV as Marine Corps Media Officer, I do not expect to ever fill his shoes. But I bring my own boots, and intend to make my own imprint in the sands of the shores of Tripoli.

Yesterday morning I looked at the eRep map and saw Canada down to one region, and it was under attack by the UK. Without checking into the situation, I launched a personal campaign to assist our Bros in saving Prince Edward Island, offering Q5 tanks for a full set of fights to anyone who would fight-- in addition to their regular Orders-- to defend PEI.

Only as the battle drew to a close of the final mini which would wipe Canada from the map, did I learn that it was Canada's strategic intention to lose this region.
The expedition was hastily planned and poorly executed, and I take full responsibility for its outcome.
Fortunately the efforts of a dozen volunteers did not turn the tide and spoil Canadian President Sperry's plan. A handful of fighters were able to advance their Rank Points, and I personally replaced the 140 Q5 tanks to the Challenge Coins stock.

However, I stand by my intention-- to aid in the defense of our Canadian friends in their time of need. I offered Challenge Coins and Q5 weapons, and that offer will be repeated next week-- my next day off work, when I can dedicate my full attention to supplying volunteers and coordinating attacks.

Canadian President Sperry says in this article, "A wipe is temporary. Most nations recognize this, because they know the community we've built up doesn't vanish with "Regions: 0". Yes, we should absolutely strive to put ourselves back on the map, to have a full Congress, and to try and turn the tide in this war. That's the whole point of playing. But if you expect to get through this without landing on Boardwalk's Hotel a few times, you're playing the wrong game."

There will be Resistance Wars. Canada will be back on the map. And this newspaper, and the Challenge Coins program, and American Bros like you and me will be there to help them.

I've made a list of those who fought for Canada yesterday and they will be awarded Challenge Coins for their valor and dedication to the Brolliance. They will be awarded next week, along with those to be earned by (hopefully) dozens more volunteer fighters, after the mission is complete.
