USA, 19:00 (Apr24) | Day 886 of the New World

In 1940 US and USSR weren't the best of friends. Their differences in government and objectives made their relationship shaky at best. Neither Franklin Delano Roosevelt nor Joseph Stalin took serious steps towards mending or developing relations. At the time US was one if not the top world power purely by economic strength, USSR was the up and coming kid, competing for resources and extending your influences around the world. Needless to say it would take a miracle to bring these two super powers together, to unite them under one cause. Surprisingly it wouldn't take long for that miracle to come. While Hitler conquered anything and anyone he wanted in Europe Japan suddenly struck US, bringing USA into WW2 around the same time Hitler satisfied with his hold in Europe turn his eyes eastward and invaded USSR driving into communist Russia at an astounding speed.

What happened next although seldom mentioned in history books is nothing short of amazing. Despite many and well know differences US and USSR put their disagreements to the side, bridged the gap in their relations and together COOPERATED in their efforts against Nazi Germany. A very similar scenario is at play in eRep, while US and EDEN have recently grown apart and led their relations into a freeze, war and hostility from Phoenix has shaken us. It has reminded us who we are supposed to be fighting and why. Our gaze which for so long was on each other has once again turned to Phoenix and their assaults against us. The fact that Phoenix didn't just attack EDEN or just attack US but instead EDEN and US at the same time shows us that despite what they may say they still consider us one team, one fighting force. And that's exactly what we need to be.

Recent attacks and tactical maneuvers have left us with priceless chances to strike at the heart of Phoenix and end this war and consequently Phoenix within weeks. Whatever it was that led us to disagree, whatever may have been our differences it is no longer relevant. To continue the bickering at a time like this would be completely idiotic. Let us join hands, charge the battle field shoulder to shoulder and together defeat those who mean us harm once and for all. This is a priceless chance and only priceless friendship can hope to take full advantage of this war. Poland, Spain, Croatia, Norway, Greece, Canada, Australia, China, India etc...we are all one team and as a team we cannot be defeated. Cooperate, fight together and this war is already won.

Editor's Corner - Ignoring the Brutal Facts
In his book, Good to Great, Jim Collins writes about top organizations that face the brutal facts. This cannot be overstated. Sometimes leaders know there are problems but don't know how to fix them. Perhaps the billing system is a complete failure, or customer service doesn't live up to the expectations you told the client, or the product has flaws that are going to cause problems down the road. Ignoring problems, no matter how much out of your control, will prevent a solid pan from coming in to place, which in turn leads to failure.

Sometimes, leaders will put blinders on and assume there are no problems. Failure to acknowledge problems not only prevents any solution from coming in to existence, but it also creates another situation of a lack of respect from the team. Your people working the front lines know where the problems lie. They deal with them ever day. If their leader doesn't know, they become nervous.

On the other hand, simply recognizing the brutal facts will build confidence in your team. They don't expect you to have all the answers, but a little empathy from time to time will go a long way. Any plan you develop will be designed to work around the challenges so that you can keep moving toward your vision. So, perhaps the billing system doesn't work right. Set that expectation up front and get the customer to see the other value points in your service. Give the customer confidence that it will all be worked out and you can get around the challenges., Ignoring the challenges will never lead to success.
