A coming of age

Day 3,355, 03:46 Published in USA Canada by Ilene Dover

Some of you, my dear readers, that are newer or are so old you're experiencing short term memory loss (or maybe you've just got PTSD from the past few months) may not remember, but a little short of a year ago I became an e-migrant to the eUSA. So it’s with my heart pounding and holding my breath I write this article. Why’s that? Well, let me spell it out for you.

I’m running for President.

Wait, what?

A quick glance at my profile will show you I’ve done this job before. Exactly once, and exactly a year ago, back in eAustralia where I was e-born. I won’t lie that was a tough gig. As the CP of a small democratic nation you live in constant fear of that awful red banner appearing at the top of your home screen, before you even start to tackle any other issues.

It’s also impossible to please everyone, and fundamentally a CP only has soft power. With hindsight though, that month was the most fun I’d ever had in this game. A decent number of other eAustralians thought so too, I was pleased to hear months afterwards.

So why do I want to take the job on again?

That’s easy to answer, although it might take awhile. Skip this section if you don’t care.

After I migrated, I found myself in the SFP. At the most basic level, that’s because they were the only party that asked me to join. It is also because I knew a few of them from before, when Bear Cavalry helped overthrow the Spanish MTO of Australia.

I was persuaded to run for Congress not long after, and ended up at the top of the list. That’s an honour that’s hard to live up to. I still don’t feel worth it.

If you elect me on the 5th, I won’t hide ugly truths from you. The SFP’s reputation with the eUS elite is poor. We’re frequently painted as a group of unpatriotic, dangerous to national security, non-conformists and generally the red-haired step child that needs special education. You can actually see a classic example underway in Congress right now.

SFP’ers as I know them are not unpatriotic, dangerous to national security or special children in any sense of the word. We are non-conformists though, who oppose the argument from authority wherever and whenever it appears. If you take the time to get to know us properly, you’ll find some of the most generous, kind hearted and caring people inside this place we call the New World.

Despite all that complicated stuff and feelings (or maybe because of it?) I’ve served in a few executive roles and cabinets over the past year. It started with Tyler Bubblar inviting me to do a job I barely understood. The contacts and experiences gained grew in time, until I was the Secretary of State for Wild Owl’s latest term.

That means I’m no stranger to the intrigues of international politics, or the infighting of Congress and the Executive, or all the various problems of trying to get a group of disparate people to work together on a common goal.

That’s a complicated mix of feelings and ideas (nobody has ever called me simple before). So, here’s a punchy list for the Millennials out there with an attention span of 5 seconds.

* I want to pave the way for our talented youngsters.
* I want to give something back to this community that gave me refuge and a new home.
* I want to show you that SFP are a strong, stable and trustworthy party.
* I want to show you that SFP have capable and trustworthy individuals amongst our members.

And most of all, I want to improve on the bloody hard work and sacrifices of those that have gone before.

You can (and should) expect more from anyone before making your decision on who should be President. I’ll be in touch over the next few days with cabinet choices and policies.
