A Call for Transparency

Day 1,054, 14:47 Published in New Zealand USA by Pragmat

Welcome to the Free Islands Press, formerly the Aegis, formerly Middle of the Road. My name is Daniel Dodge, let's get started.

It has only been a few days but already we have some fighting, some trolling and a lot of bitching haha.

First the news you need to know:

Another great article from the Kiwi Kontrol detailing what you should and should not be doing here in New Zealan😛 http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/the-dos-and-don-039-ts-of-a-brand-new-country-1538505/1/20

Immigration news from Carr De Vaux, do to the open citizenship process of the new nations we have had some move here who may not have the interests of a Free New Zealand at heart: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-cdv-nz-bad-news-kiwis-we-found-some-possums-1538160/1/20

The main news/controversy of the past few days stems from this article: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/abuse-of-power-1538027/1/20

In it Alfagrem outlines some complaints regarding the Provisional Government

Our Provisional Leader, Myles Robinson, issued this article is response: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/-nz-regarding-the-nzdf-and-pakistan-1538344/1/20

New Zealand is in a unique position. Due to the timing of the implementation of the country, it will be a month before we elect a President, a week before we elect Party Presidents and a few weeks before we elect a Congress. In order to push forward efforts for organization and structure, a handful of individuals from many different eRep backgrounds got together and started a forum before New Zealand went live. Within 24 hours nearly 100 people had joined it and as it was very active it made sense to use it as....well...a forum to discuss what we wanted New Zealand to be and yes, to begin organizing, among other things, a Provisional Government and a Military Command.

Since all military structure lies outside of the confines of the game, it made perfect sense to start and organize a military as soon as possible, to provide time in order to train and get organized for the fights that are sure to come after our grace period ends. In the absence of an in-game government, the Provisional Government has stepped up to fill that role, working on foreign relations while also advising on the formation and development of the military.

I feel that the actions of our military, of our Provisional Government, were right and in no way unlawful. That being said, Alfagrem did raise a good point in his article: transparency.

Obviously some things simply can not be discussed in a public forum. Loose lips sink ships and the more people that hear about something, the more likely it is to become common knowledge. But with the situation we are in, operating with a Provisional Government set up by a handful of people and approved by a hundred or so citizens, every effort needs to be made to allow for participation in the decision making process.

It may not be the most efficient, it may take time and cause frustration, but whenever possible the people should be included! We are taking our first steps as a nation and it is important that we start off on the right foot. If you agree with this sentiment, do not be afraid to let our leaders know.

Until next time, thank you and God bless,

Daniel Dodge
