Why I Write

eRepublik is an MMORPG. That first M? It stands for “Massively” - nerd lingo for big. There’s so many players in eRepublik, so many IRCs, Forums, PMs, Shouts, and battles. If you’re not looking straight at something, odds are, you’re going to miss it. The media module isn't strong - it's hard to navigate abroad. Why not make it easier for our citizens who don't have time to read everything, and put it all in one place each day?

If your chief concern was wanting revenge trials for petty personal feuds, you might not know that we got Congress on board with its first 200 Gold payout, sat at the top of every TEDEN priority list while we wiped London, turned traitors into trusted allies, closed a war that’s stuck 3 years in the past, ramped MU Coordination up from once-a-week orders to several orders daily, brought our laws into line with what is realistic for the game, breathed new life into the NCM, and made Canada a negotiator rather than a needy child.

I write daily articles because Canadians deserve to be informed. They deserve an executive that will tell players what’s happening in other countries and will own up to its own failures. I write articles because you shouldn’t have to be a kingpin to know what goes on each day. I write articles, not because I think I’m some perfect President (good god I’m not), but because some Canadians genuinely get something out of knowing what happens in this game.

I know that not everyone loves these articles. Sara doesn’t, Jacobi didn’t, and I’m sure there are others as well. But I don’t play for the “I don’t like thats” of the world. I play for the players who are glad Canada isn’t all about disguising revenge as reform - the players who have created a media filled with the thoughts of Mordakai and the analyses of Shoi. eRepublik is not - and has never been - a game for “no, no, no.” I’m not interested in once-a-month rants that long for the past without any action. I’m interested in the Shoi’s and the Mordakai’s, and if writing helps even one of them find out more, I’m going to keep doing it.

Where We’ve Been

The sheet of Canada’s past has lots of stains on it. Yes, we’ve had glory days - repeated wipes of London, the Polish Conquest, and repatriation every other Summer. But we’ve spent so much of our time on things like Irongate, Rologate, OrgGate - we have a lot of gates. So much of our time is spent on treaties and laws that can’t be enforced, instead of fostering the community of players that we’ve still got around us.

This past month has been about repairing past mistakes and building the foundation for future successes. As a country - not as individuals but as a nation - we’ve reached a point where the media isn’t obsessing over September 2010. We’ve reached a point where we can call on the wisdom of former Canadians, rather than send them hate mail for deciding to explore new parts of the game. And, I hope, we’re reaching a point where we aren’t making tactical choices based on what some bigwig said back in July 2009.

This month, Cabinet and I have been working on serving as stewards of Canada’s reputation. It’s a stewardship designed to uplift our citizens, praise what works and what good work they do, and move away from childish acts that leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. On the international stage and at home, our goal has been to leave Canada in a better place than we found it, to give players in eRepublik a positive impression of Canada rather than a country they’re ashamed to know about. From what we’ve seen on these fronts, there’s been a lot of progress. But the job isn’t done.

Where We’re Going

What can you expect from a third Sperry Presidency?

You can expect the same open, thorough communication from all levels of the executive. You can expect a Cabinet team that is organized, keeps Congress moving, keeps our MUs as informed as they’ve been in months, and keeps our allies up to speed on what Canada’s doing.

You can expect the same positive, player-driven initiative that acknowledges private efforts like Doctor of Soul’s Ministry of Health and Mordakai’s Ministry of Education. You can expect that we’ll keep seeking input from former Justices, Speakers, and Presidents - as we keep the pool of ideas wide and the appeal of Canadian respectability high.

You can expect an approach to foreign affairs that stands with our allies, and stands up to our interests. You can expect a commitment to the allies who will help us move forward. You can expect that bigotry, real life obsessions, and outright lies will not be tolerated, and that Canada will continue to push TEDEONE away from these issues that have plagued the world for the past 4 years.

We have the potential to tip the scales away from the messes and mistakes of the past. We have the ability to build interest with our newer players without drowning them in the propaganda of 4 years past. Let’s keep building this nation, and keep on the path of progress. As always, Dum Spiro Spero.
